Eidos Montreal has announced that it's working on a next-gen Deus Ex concept known as 'Deus Ex: Universe', which will be comprised of "an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games."

The developer is promising to "deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before."

Apparently, this will mainly include various console and PC games, as well as Deus Ex experiences for tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels and so on. As such, Eidos Montreal has already entered production on a new Deus Ex game for next-gen consoles that will provide a starting point for the Deus Ex: Universe.

Developed by the Deus Ex: Human Revolution team, the next-gen Deus Ex will feature "trans-humanism segregation" as one of its core themes, and is the backdrop to the developer's vision for the next Deus Ex. The first piece of concept art (below) is said to represent a 'ghetto-city' that has been "voluntarily built in order to separate the classes.

"The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex."

It's early days for the next-gen Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Universe, so apparently, there won't be much more to show for a while, according to Eidos Montreal. However, in other Deus Ex news, Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut will be heading to Xbox 360 on October 22nd in North America and October 25th in Europe.
