Battlefield 4's Second Assault multiplayer map pack DLC will be coming to Xbox One first. This much we already know, but what you may not realise is that the content will be available for Xbox One on launch day, meaning you can grab more maps right off the bat, if you so wish.

Comprised of re-imagined Battlefield 3 maps, including Operation Metro, the Second Assault maps will each utilise Frostbite 3 and include their very own unique 'Levolution' elements. This map pack is also not to be confused with the pre-order incentive China Rising map pack, which bundles four maps taking in the Chinese mainland, and new vehicles and other high-tech military hardware.

Come launch day on November 22nd then, Battlefield 4 will have the Second Assault map pack available to download, and if you pre-order, you'll be entitled to the China Rising map pack when it drops. Blimey. If you fancy playing Battlefield 4 for Xbox 360 meanwhile, you can get involved with the BF4 beta.

Is there a price tag to this? It's EA so I'm guessing so.

I'd have preferred some re-imagined Bad Company maps for nostalgia.

Remakes of BF3 maps seems too soon for me...

@1 It is free for Premium Members, so i'm guessing a hefty price for those who aren't.

BF DLC is usually $15 each. The DLC is free on pre-order or premium is $50 for 5 $15 DLC. And DICE knows how to do DLC :)

@8, I am guessing you are gonna spill some crap about launch day dlc taking away from production of the full game? They are re-released maps, and next gen is a month after the game comes out for current gen system. They also usually have separate teams working on dlc and that does not take away from production either.

Say you have a guy baking a cake, and another guy shows up to make muffins. They cake isn't going to be any less awesome because the muffin guy could have helped. :p

To be fair, from what I understand, maps featured in multiplayer when the game launches are taken from single player levels, are they not?

So having BF3 maps in BF4 on disc, wouldn't follow the 'standard', would it not?

Either way, although I am curious as to what each of the BF3 maps levolution would be, as I am the only one of the group of players I normally play with who is getting it on the One, I doubt I'll be diving into Premium straight away.

Probably wait for it to go on sale, like I did BF3's.

If I hadn't pre-ordered it, and in turn receive a map pack for free (China Rising), then I might have broke. But nah, I would rather not spend full price on Premium when I have a map pack guaranteed. :)

So they release dlc the day the game comes out. Meaning, it should just be on the damn game. And dlc has maps from the last game. That's brilliant. You amaze me EA

@6: There's three months (minimum) of time between when a game is sent out for testing, certification, and production that they developers have to create DLC. Should they sit on their hands and do nothing just because whiners don't like it for some reason?

On top of that, this particular game will have been out for about a month before it hits Xbox One. So, an additional month for development.

That argument is bullshit.
They could as well delay the release or rearrange their time shelude so all the content is ready when the game launches. I find it baffeling that people accept that if developers are not able to finish their work before deadline (Finishing all the content before Gold status) customers should pay extra for what they didn't finish in time.
On another note they are currently holding a beta. A Beta-Test is the last step in quality control and when a beta is held it usually means that the Gold status isn't met yet.
I'm pretty sure this game is in post production which however means they are lying to you and you are playing a demo to which if you don't like it they can always cop out and say its not the finished product.
They tell you a lot of PR bullshit and you don't have to believe everything EA/Dice is telling you.
There are still a few games that don't have DLC at all or games last generation games they had a gold status and then the game was ready and the developers still didn't goof around for a few month between gold status and release.

@23 Developers are not going to rearrange their release dates to include stuff they haven't even made yet. They make a certain number of maps for the base game, and once those are done and the game is fully made, then they start making additional maps for DLC. You cannot expect EA to have DICE make 20 maps (most of which are very large) for the base game. Hardly any big games have more than 12 to 15 maps at launch, so obviously EA isn't going to exceed that since they are rather business savy. They make a fortune off DLC and how can you blame them? If people expect X amount of maps and are willing to pay $60 for X amount of maps, then why give them X+4 maps for $60? Make them pay additional for the additional maps, that is just common business sense.

@28 I am not blaming EA/Dice for that but you have to be clear that it is a business decision how much content the game ships with and that we don't get this content in the base game is due to EA making the decision to sell it extra and not because of it somehow not possible to still include that onto the disc. Because what #20 is telling me is that EA/Dice aren't able to release a game that has 14 maps and that isn't the case. They simply don't want to.

I don't think you understand the point of an open public beta.

The version of the game we are playing in beta will be based on code that could be anything up to about a year out of date. They aren't testing code or physics or level design - that's all done by the QA teams. The point of an open MP beta is to stress test servers.

The game will have gone gold around July/August. Since then the network and server engineers will have been working on preparing for the beta and rolling it out - whilst the level designers and artists do what exactly?

There is usually the best part of a whole business quarter in between a game being certified and getting released. During that time, designers and artists need to be working to develop something that generates revenue for the studio. In situations where that is not the case, they usually lose their jobs because the studio can't afford to pay them to sit around and do nothing. (Yes, they really do. Staff turnover in the games industry is that fast, and that brutal).

Could the dlc have been on the disc? Yeah sure. If they delayed sending the game for certification for a few months whilst they developed it, and then held up the launch date. But then what would those developers do in between certification and launch? Oh yeah...get working on the next bit of dlc...

You pay for what you get on the disc(s). If that isn't sufficient for you, don't buy the product or wait for GOTY. If you don't like that they develop and release the dlc at a cost, either don't support the developer or just don't buy it.

Just because a company makes something extra for a game they release, and they get it ready for launch day, does NOT mean it was ready in time for certification, does NOT mean it should be on the disc, and does NOT mean that anyone is entitled to it for free.

Just to be clear: The DLC in this article is NOT available at launch. BF4 is released a month before this DLC, which is out in time for the Next Gen version. It's also just a collection of rehashed BF3 maps, which takes a lot less time to put together than a brand new map pack.

It's not like they're selling us an unlock code for something that's already on the disc - that really is bullshit. (looking at you, Ubi...)

Why don't we all play the game and THEN decide if what we get on the disc is worth the money we've paid? If not, then fine, complain about the dlc. Otherwise, you've had your money's worth.
