United Front Games has announced that it's working on a sequel to the rather excellent Sleeping Dogs, with the suffix 'Triad Wars'.

As with many early announcements like this, Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars is in development, but details are somewhat thin on the ground at present. According to an update on UFG's official site, we'll find out more next year. No platforms have been confirmed for the next Sleeping Dogs, but we're crossing our fingers for next-gen.

Sleeping Dogs released in August of last year to a largely positive critical reception, and managed to shift around 2 million copies having been ditched by Activision and picked up by Square Enix, who will also publish the sequel. You can read our Sleeping Dogs review here.

  • Sleeping Dogs was excellent. I'll keep my eye on this one!
  • oh god I can't wait for sequel to Sleeping Dogs. I had so much fun playing the first one. And yeah I hope there is a next gen crossover.
  • This is great news! I just started Sleeping Dogs yesterday and man am I having a blast. So much fun.
  • Finally some exciting news! I am looking forward to this! The first one was so good, this one will definatly be even better!
  • I rented this game via Gamefly earlier this year and loved it. I got the 1000 in it too. Will definitely pick up a sequel.
  • I'm very happy to hear this news and a bit surprised. It was only a few months ago Square said that almost all the games they published the last year were "failures" because they had such high sales expectations (same with Capcom) and didn't reach them.
  • Lovely game. I feel the devs missed a trick by calling the 100% achievement 'Chief Inspector' when they could have gone for 'The Dogs Bollocks' instead. Keep wanting to action hijack whilst playing GTA so UFG clearly thought of something new and useful there.
  • Awesome news sleeping dogs was a lot of fun, I hope they follow the gta route new game = new main character.
  • Sign me up.
  • Great news! I really enjoyed Sleeping Dogs.
  • This made my day. loved Sleeping Dogs.
  • Cannot wait. Loved SD.
  • Yay! Quite surprised though, given it supposedly flopped after not outselling CoD.
  • Looking forward to this, sleepy doggy was great!
  • Sleeping Dogs was really good. Can't wait for a sequel.
  • Looking at buying Sleeping Dogs, as its my sort of game. Plus with it being easy for Gs, that makes it a no brainer.
  • This is brilliant news! Absolutely loved Sleeping Dogs :D
  • Great news, Sleeping Dogs was -- ironically -- the sleeper hit of 2012. Absolutely brilliant open-world game with new and fresh ideas and a refinement of past ones.
  • The first one was beyond entertaining, I loved it. Looking forward to the sequel.
  • Sleeping Dogs is still a very good game. The Story is brilliant too. And the variety of DLC made it even better. Looking forward for the sequel. :D
  • Hell Yeah
  • Really nice to hear. Played Sleeping Dogs last month and it was AWESOME.
  • Sleeping Dogs was a diamond in the rough. Not a lot of people knew about it or played it at first, but once word got around the game spread like wildfire. One game I am very happy to have pre-ordered.
  • Awesome. There's things they did better than GTA 5 (cough way better radio cough metal station cough) and I'll buy this day 1. Thanks Square, I was scared it wouldn't make a sequel due to "low sales" and their stupid high expectations.
  • sleeping dogs is a fantastic game glad theres gonna be more :D
  • hope there's more gunplay in the next one, along with the excellent combat of course.
  • In my opinion it was average. The gameplay has been done elsewhere and better before and the story did not make a lick of sense really. Don't understand the hype-everyone was just amazed by the fact it was based in Asia compared to the normal American setting of it's rivals. I'm by no means saying it was bad, but it sure wasn't great.
  • Got Sleeping Dogs cheap and found it to be a really good fun game. I'm not so much into games like it (I don't like GTA for instance, apart from GTA3 and the 2D ones) but I did think Sleeping Dogs was a really fun game to play.
  • @7 - That one would work best in a London-set game.
  • As already evidenced, let the downvotes of a perfectly reasonable opinion by over-sensitive fan boys commence.
  • Can't top GTA 5
  • Look forward to this. Sleeping Dogs is great new IP game from last year. So no more stupid zombies DLC that were terrible DLC. I hope SD 2 don't get stupid DLCs. :)
  • @24, Indeed! They had Killswitch Engage!! :D Plus, action hijacks were fucking brilliant.
  • Generally quite a positive reaction from the users here, which is good to see. I loved Sleeping Dogs and maxed it out. In my opinion better that GTA4(I havent played GTA5)
  • Another game that didn't need a sequel. :/
  • Sleeping Dogs was awful. One of the worst 360 games I've played.
  • I finally got around to playing Sleeping Dogs a couple of months ago, and I loved it. This is great news. After getting the 1225, I'm ready for some more Sleeping Dogs.
  • Sold and im.... Spent
  • Played this during the gaming drought this year, got every achievement, moved on. Very easy to 100%
  • along with Alan Wake and Spec Ops the line this was one of my favourite single player experiences on xbox. I really hope they keep in what made it so great- the hand to hand combat, decent story and variety of missions. I just hope they don't try and clone gta. Have the balls to be different. In terms of improvements I would like to see more depth to the world, such as better side missions as the only real exploring or deviation I did was looking for those pesky Collectibles.
  • I prefer sleeping dogs to GTA - but thats just my view, can not wait for a new one,
  • Fantastic news. Sleeping Dogs is easily my favourite open-world title so I will be all over this sequel :D
  • It was awesome fun, especially the martial arts clubs and as many have mentioned the action-hijacks; I'm happy I pre-ordered it! But can we have more story DLC and less costume-only DLC for the sequel? As fun as it was driving around the city looking like the Monkey King or Jackie Chan or Agent 47, it was a little bit pointless and cash-grabby overall...
  • Man who never eats pork bun. Is never whole man.
  • That's great news that game was dope and talk about coming out of nowhere! Guy told me "ahh it's just another GTA type game" (great salesmen ship skills Gamefront) and I got it anyway and was blown away cause the story was unique and interesting and rather than using guns all the time it was more based on hand to hand martial arts street fighting ship I loved it,def the summer sleeper hit of 2012 I still go back and fuck around even with all achievments and 100% completion it's just that good so they got big shoes to fill with this sequel but it think they will do alright. And just to think this game almost never happened
