Honestly, I agree. Gears 1-3 and Judgement all felt like the same game to me. I rarely feel this way about a game, but in the case of Gears, even after playing through the games, I could hardly tell the difference between any of them. I hope whenever a new Gears comes out, they deliver some truly innovative things. "Maybe make it more gritty." LoL! Yeah... that's what it needs...Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:09 AM
No gears no xbox oneFriday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:16 AM
i would like to see an RTS based on this franchise...Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:20 AM
How about a FPCS ? (Thats first person chainsaw slasher )Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:20 AM
I liked the first game.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:22 AM
Gears Of War 3 for me is the best game i have ever played. Judgment is awful...they seemed to take a step back with Judgment and changed too much. And the online is as laggy as anything i have seen.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:23 AM
Step 1. Remake Gears 1 on Xbox One (and possibly 2 and 3 cause 2 had the best story). Step 2. After the remake, either get the ORIGINAL team or some devs with REAL talent (not the ones who made judgment ) to make a sequel. Step 3. Hire a writer with real talent (not the choke artist who wrote 3) to develop a great story. In short. Don't do what they did for judgment MP wise, and do more what they did SP wise in Gears 2.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:25 AM
#1 I actually think it's a good thing they feel the same (with slight changes), why fix something that isn't broken? What Gears 1-3 did right was telling a good, involving story, that's the reason these games (and the books) sold that well. LOL, everytime when they try to reboot something, and have no idea how (and there is no reason to reboot something in the first place)...they always make it "grittier"!!! The new Spiderman-movie, Man of Steel, Tomb Raider, the new Evil Dead, the list goes on and on...Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:25 AM
Gears ran out of steam with the " nicey nice" ending of 3. The whole hype was about there being " no hope" and the "last bastion of humanity" Yet i killed a fucking boss and saved the planet. They played it too safe, disappointing.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:27 AM
#8 Remake games that aren't even 8 years old? Why the hell would anyone want that??? And who should buy these games, most fans still have the tilogy on their shelves!Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:36 AM
@11. Well Mr Random No Account, the Gears fans actually would. Most of them are still trying to get the nasty taste of Gears Judgment out of their mouths. The Gears series really made cover based TPS pop. Got it headed in the right direction. Adding new graphics, such as Epics UT4, would give great insight on the graphical advantages of using their engine. Seeing from one to the next. Besides, if you look at the fans of the series, they miss the old Gears, theyd happily fork over more money for the X1 and a newly refreshed Gears. That's why. Also, its who would, not should.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:36 AM
Remake 'Gears of War'? Hell no. Epic should do a remake of 'Unreal', and 'Unreal Tournament'.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:38 AM
@13. Hell yes Gears. And UT. I've been waiting for a sequel, or at least a REAL sequel since UT3.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:40 AM
R.I.P. GEARS OF WAR.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:41 AM
#14 Ridiculous! As soon as Epic would reveal they are planning remakes of these games, people would say they are milking the franchise. Again, my question remains, why remake games that every fan has?? Remake them as what? HD-versions? They are HD! (and I might be a bigger fan than you, as I have all three parts as SE here, books and Judgment too)Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:45 AM
Gears had a good run pn the Xbox 360, much better than a lot of franchises, let it lay dormant for a few years and when it's the right time, they'll make another.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 05:48 AM
I thought 1 - 3 were great, getting better each time, in single and multi player. The spitscreen coop campaign was so much fun. Judgment was a good spinoff, being a fun arcade style game that gave me my gears fix. As they can't really go further with the story, I'm hoping a good full on prequel, back with Marcus and Dom, as it's not the same without them. But struggling to think of what they can do with them.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:03 AM
@16 You have to remember that not everyone is a Gears fan. I myself, got into Gears of War way too late( I'm talking like 4 or 5 month ago with Gears of War 3). But the little time that I had with Gears of War 3, I enjoyed. If they were to re-release 1-3 on the Xbox One, I would definitely buy them. Hopefully, as @18 says, they either do another prequel with Marcus and Dom, or they could focus on another squad this time around. Either way I'll probably end up enjoying it.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:03 AM
@18 I'm definitely for a prequel. I was hoping Judgement would show the beginning of the war with the locust, but it didn't turn out that way. I'd love to see the very first day the locust started popping up, and the immediate struggle afterwards.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:05 AM
@20 yeah I was thinking E day but they used that for Jugment, unless from M & D's point of view, maybe the first few levels of the war itself, fighting other humans etc. I just really wanna see a Gears game using next gen hardware!Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:07 AM
@11 That's funny you say that, cuz i was looking for games to trade in and saw these 3 games stacked together and said to myself, i will probably never play these again but these are classics and I'm not getting rid of these.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:22 AM
The only way I want to see Gears return is in the form of a prequel during the Pendulum Wars. That would be cool.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:39 AM
Actually, whatever happened to Gears of War Exile?Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:56 AM
I think it's ok for a series to be done. If the story has been told, it's ok to leave it be. There's no need for a constant string of badly done prequels that cheapen the brand. It would actually be nice to have a completed product for once - consign it to history and move on to a new IP.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:59 AM
Although I get it's a big part, I don't care about the campaign, And I could survive if it wasn't there. Just give me Gears 3 with awesome graphics on the Xbone and i'll be happy.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 07:03 AM
I seriously hope they make another Gears. Everyone has to love the Gears franchise and if they get it right we all know how good it will be on Xbox One.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 07:30 AM
Next gen could be a good opportunity for them to try that Gears RPG they were talking about a few years ago.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 07:33 AM
Gears 1 was the best Gears 2 was average Gears 3 was bad Gears Judgement...Well the less said about this the better we will all be lol. Have to agree it seems to have ran its course.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 07:39 AM
@29 I agree with you 100% I played gears 1 around 400 hours gears 2 i probably put the same amount of time into it. Gears 3 probably about 100 and judgement about 6. Judgement was terrible.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 07:46 AM
There were many moments in gears 1 that had more of a horror feel than many survival horrors, and I loved it. They really went all in with the concept of humanity falling, and each game after, things got worse, but the gameplay and visuals contradicted that fact. I can and have replayed 1 so many times, I even got the achievements on other tags just as an excuse to play that intead of whatever newer games were out that weren't half as good. I'm all for a remake but it'll take more than one game fr me to buy a console, nonetheless keep it dark gritty and very hard, and you have my attention, but please, no 400+ hours multiplayer achievements for the love of god!!!Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 07:47 AM
I had hopes that GoW would turn into a serious franchise when 3 was released and they balanced all the weapons properly. It was crazy and amazing to notice all the weapons had perfect balance and use against each other. ...Then they patched it because of a moronic fanbase. So, they turned GoW3 into what GoW1 and 2 were... Boring Shotgunfests that relied more heavily on luck and internet connection than any sort of real skill or tactics. Thanks again for nerfing the one weapon that could mow down Shotgunners no problem, GoW! I surely do appreciate the nerf of the Retro Lancer. I mean, it's not like it wasn't balanced against other weapons like the Hammerburst or standard Lancer, which absolutely destroyed Retro Lancer players... It really doesn't help that the story became completely retarded by the third game either. If I never see another Gears of War at this point, it will be too soon. When multiplayer has been complete garbage for three games, and then the fans demanded it be complete garbage in fourth game as well... and it was GIVEN to them... I've lost faith in the franchise or the company that created it. Especially since by the third game, they ruined what was my only reason for playing the franchise up to that point... Story Mode (as multiplayer had sucked in the first two games).Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 07:55 AM
Now that the locusts are gone we could go back to human on human warfare in the future and see how that goes. Maybe have a little hint along the way of a new kind of species that appears towards the end of the game or something so that it could lead into what succeeds the locusts.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 08:10 AM
Baaad news everybody! I was hoping for a fresh start, from Pendulum Wars and onward to E-day, but I don't like the sound of this man... I love playing Gears with my GF, great split-screen and an interesting story (if you look a little deeper) but I'll admit Judgment was a disappointment. I hope MS throws some money at Epic and get them started on a fresh Gears. Also, what happened to Judgment being the first part in a trilogy? (or am I just getting old & senile)Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 08:19 AM
#23 exactly great idea there is always the war at anvil gate that would be interesting leading up to a longer version of eday like we had in Raams shadow not the weird stuff judgement gave usFriday, November 01, 2013 @ 08:36 AM
For me, Gears of Wars lost something after each release until it became an (almost) generic experience. The multiplayer was what made it truly awesome for me.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 09:02 AM
Reading this really makes me happy. The Gears series has been my favorite series this gen with the multiplayer improving with each game (Excluding Judgment) but leave as that. Let Epic bring some new stuff to the table.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 09:12 AM
Leave it at gears 1-3. As a hardcore gears fan, I have to say that trilogy was pretty much perfect. Judgement, without me needed to explain why, was a complete failure, It didn't have the same charm or story. Do us a favour and leave this trilogy alone, at least for quite a few years until it fades out of memory!Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 09:36 AM
Wow. I have to say, I'm very impressed that they have the balls to shelf Gears of War, atleast it sounds like they might. Plus one for Microsoft today. Judgment was a huge low for the series. I'm really happy to see them step back from this rather than talk about just spitting out more of them.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 09:53 AM
The weapon balance and dark atmosphere of Gears 1. The map selection and gore of Gears 2. The dedicated servers and smooth gameplay of Gears 3. That what I want, personally.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 10:00 AM
Gears was dead ever since cliffy B left. Love or hate him, he kept the series alive and in line.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 10:02 AM
I think a Pendulum Wars story has potential, the war is touched on in the books (Anvegad and so on). Young Hoffman, even younger Dom and Marcus.....Whats not to like? ;)Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 10:05 AM
I loved the cast of characters in the gears 3 campaign. I'm hoping if they make another one marcus and dom are the main characters.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 10:08 AM
Honestly gears of war 1-3 are my favorite games on the 360 but judgment, I have no words for that game. Got my Gamerscore for it and sold it never looked back. Still have my gears 3 though and I still play it cause I fucking love that gameFriday, November 01, 2013 @ 10:15 AM
i just want UNREAL TORNAMENT and BULLITSTORM 2 on xbox1Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 10:46 AM
In Daniel Webb's words, Gears of War sucks if it will now do a prequel. Pffff... Fast-forward a thousand years or something, possibilities are endless. I just want to see some process in the story while playing the fantastic online play GOW delivers.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 10:50 AM
Gears was the only reason I chose to buy the 360. Gears One was dark, gritty & the final Boss fight with RAAM was the best Boss fight I've seen since Sephiroth myself ;) Gears Two had better Graphics with a story that made you truly feel for the characters & what they where doing & again had an Epic final Boss fight. Also the Multiplayer & Hoard mode rocked hardcore! A first for myself actually playing Multiplayer & enjoying it. Gears Three Set the Bar on Graphics & detail. Horde again rocked & the Multiplayer action ruled.Story & DL content was great too. The only way I would see it regain any of its former glory would be to combine Gears with Halo since this is what "People Can Fly" pretty much tried to do with the "Judgment" garbage they thew together!!!Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 11:42 AM
@#1 And for me it felt entirely different. 1st was awesome, 2nd one was very good, 3rd was a let down and last one was huge disappointment. So much, that I have yet to pick it up and bought all of the 3 on release day... I am glad they are letting it rest for now. Series went down the drain long time ago=/Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 11:44 AM
This is my response to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9RVS8cjNN0Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 12:08 PM
I'd still play Judgment because I play Gears for the gameplay and because the detractors can't muster anything more articulate than 'Uuuhhhtttttsssshhhhittttt' or 'I don't have to tell you why!'.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 12:26 PM
They were all great until judgement where they decided to change the controls that hardcore gears fans were used to... You couldn't just hold a grenade, as soon as you let go of the button the grenade would be thrown, in gears of war 1-3 you can plant and stick grenades to enemies.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 12:30 PM
Gears of war has not run its course we true gearheads would love a trilogy Xbox one edition with upgraded graphics and for those saying where to go in the story???? Pendulum wars to E-Day but with Marcus and Dom back as the main characters there is so much story before the original trilogy please epic make another one, the multiplayer was perfected and didn't need change until Judgment, in the past the weapon balance was the issue which judgment may have done right according to the few that play, make It gritty? YES! Make it dark and hardcore again and stick to the classics, TDM classic horde classic annex guardian and throw in everything else you want ONE MORE GEARS!!!! (And a trilogy lol)Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 12:36 PM
I really liked the series but there's no need to make a new one. Start a new IP or make another UT.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 12:43 PM
Let me say that I love Gears of War. I still have all three core games, I bought the Epic Edition of 3, got the GoW3 Xbox, I have the poster, I have the Gears 2 Hoodie... my collection goes on. I love these games to no end. But please just let them lie. Like, for real. 1-3 were just amazing, they stuck around just long enough to tell their story and then left it there (well, besides one little misstep with Judgement). Don't milk the shit out of it like Halo and create another zombie series shambling forward as it moans for death. If Gears doesn't come back to Xbox One, fine. Then that's how it should be. And if you EVER think about reviving it again, you better have taken the time to have a good hard look at the series, the fans AND YOURSELVES, gotten the team and the passion and the knowledge all there and spent some good hard time designing it. I don't need more annual or bi-annual trash. Also you might want to get Cliff and/or Rod back. It's literally born from their lives and experiences, and you lose all that heart when you just slap something together without that.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 01:03 PM
I honestly will miss Marcus Fenix, though. One of the best video game characters ever, in my opinion. Delta Squad as a whole is just a great team of characters. I agree with this, though. Epic wrote the franchise into a corner with both Gears 2 and Gears 3. It was awesome and I loved how it played out. But they definitely wrote it into a corner.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 03:58 PM
They better continue making gears games. Gears of war is my favorite series.Friday, November 01, 2013 @ 06:56 PM
@25 +1. I think a definitve end to anything (movies, books, games, tv shows, etc.) is always a good thing. It means that the property isn't going to get stale with creators trying to drag the story on because it still makes money. I'm sure one of the main reasons for this decision is the poor sales of Judgment, but that was also a sign of individuals who wanted to squeeze out another Gears on this-gen consoles because GOW3 sold so well. But people weren't having it. I admit I did like the idea of the story, but unfortunately it wasn't as interesting as I think it could have been. And they completely changed the multiplayer to be more like most shooters -- c'mon, a pistol as your secondary weapon and Y is your change weapon button -- that purists disliked the game from the get-go. Even after the change to put back a shotgun/lancer back as your back-up weapon, the damage was already done. I liked the Gears of War franchise very much, but I have to admit I think it's time for it to end. I also like the idea of a franchise only existing on one exclusive console. Makes it exclusive to a moment in time.Saturday, November 02, 2013 @ 03:51 PM
my friend's sister-in-law makes $82 hourly on the internet. She has been laid off for eight months but last month her payment was $15922 just working on the internet for a few hours. his comment is here http://www.jobs64.comSaturday, November 02, 2013 @ 10:25 PM
I agree, as well. Personally, I like a series' continuity. I would love to see how another company would do Gears. But the new company would have to realize to keep fans, would be to keep the face that the Gears series has been given. The language, gore, drama. It's all important to fans, as well as gameplay. So let's hope if they get a new company to do it, that they don't run it into the ground.Saturday, November 02, 2013 @ 11:16 PM
hey, why not bring back bulletstorm?! they could go anywhere with the shallow story that one had, but who needs a story, that game was fun as hell!Sunday, November 03, 2013 @ 08:09 AM
HALO 1-3 - (equivalent) - GOW 1-3 Halo: ODST - () - Judgement Halo: Reach - () - Gears of War: Pendulum Wars? Halo Wars - () - Gears Wars? Halo 4 - () - Gears 4? Personally I cant understand why they are putting this franchise on hold? All the money that went into it to make it what it was - :/ If they could make a Gears RPG - now that would be something - new characters, new settings, missions u can do, side recon missions - so much potential to grow this, makes no sense to me?! (saving private ryan style, blood on the beaches, gear medics running in the battlefield!)Tuesday, November 05, 2013 @ 03:10 PM
Allison. if you think Mary`s posting is nice, last week I bought a great new Audi Quattro from earning $6538 this - 4 weeks past and would you believe, 10k this past-munth. it's by-far the best work I have ever had. No more gears of war please...Sunday, November 23, 2014 @ 11:40 PM

Microsoft Games Studios VP Phil Spencer has been speaking about Gears of War, discussing the franchise’s past and potential future.
Speaking to IGN, Spencer said that the main reason for Gears of War’s current absence is that creator Epic busy, presumably working on Unreal Engine 4 and the upcoming Fortnite.
However, despite Spencer’s belief that Epic would be “the right team” to deliver future Gears of War games, he does think that it would be possible to find “another team to do it”, if Microsoft was “very careful” about identifying the right talent.
Spencer added that if Gears were to return, it would have to change. The series “ran its course on 360″ and “doesn’t quite have the story arc of something like Halo”, necessitating the need to “step back” and think about how to “expand the universe.”
Spencer’s idea? “Maybe make it more gritty.”
