According to Activision, Call of Duty: Ghosts has already reached the $1 billion milestone in generated revenue worldwide, in just one day. Its first day on sale. Yesterday. These are sales to retailers rather than consumers. Grand Theft Auto V, by comparison reached the $1bn mark in consumer sales in three days.
The publisher notes that more than 15,000 stores held midnight openings for the game's global November 5th launch, leading to $1 billion in sales to retailers. Activision has yet to reveal the number of units Call of Duty: Ghosts has sold, but the publisher claims it was the most pre-ordered game at US retailer GameStop.
"Ghosts is an amazing game which ushers in the next generation of Call of Duty," commented Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin. In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title."
