Xbox One Launch Entertainment Apps Revealed, No iPlayer or Sky

Microsoft has revealed the 13 apps which will launch for the Xbox One in UK between launch and spring 2014.

From 4oD, to LoveFilm, Netflix and Twitch, it’s a decent selection, yet there’s no space for Sky or the BBC’s iPlayer, the major providers of original television content in the UK.

“We will continue to announce more partners coming to the platform and just like we did for Xbox 360, we will launch new entertainment apps every month,” says Microsoft.

Here’s that list. If you’re not in the UK, you can get the full global apps list here

  • 4oD
  • AmazonLOVEFiLM
  • blinkbox
  • Crackle
  • Demand 5
  • Eurosport
  • Machinima
  • Netflix
  • NOW TV
  • TED
  • Twitch

In addition to the third-party apps above, all Xbox Ones will also feature the following:

  • Xbox Fitness
  • Xbox Video
  • Xbox Music
  • Internet Explorer
  • Skype
  • SkyDrive
  • Upload

Xbox One is out on November 22nd.

Maybe someone just wants to watch a man with 8 stone testicles, or a boy with a vagina for a face. Chanel 5, keeping you up to date with the worlds freaks.

No sky is surprising considering how much space their adverts take up on the current dashboard

I kinda wish YouTube was there, but meh, you can always Snap Internet Explorer, so that's no real hardship.

It's not Microsoft's fault iPlayer isn't there it's the BBCs and as usual the BBC is probably too busy jerking off over their Apple devicesso blame them.

The BBC has a legal obligation to provide equal access to everyone but the shirk it all the time in favour of Apple i.e. releasing the iOS version years before the android version even though over 60% of license payers used Android and only 13% used Apple devices.

So don't be surprised that the BBC has failed to deliver as always.

Gonna keep my 360. Has everything I need on it, and have a better selection of games and apps. Gonna wait 6 months before I upgrade to Xbox One.

Netflix and 4OD are the ones for me on that list. Hopefully BBC iplayer and Sky Player are added by the time I get an Xbox One.

@1 Yep, me too, only reason why once I have the cash saved that I'll be buying the console, watching TV is something I rarely do as I'd rather play a game with a good story and decent, rich, impressive graphics.

Netflix and BBC iplayer are the only ones I use on 360 so at least I've got one of them.

Where is Sky? I use Sky more than any other app on my 360. I'm starting to wonder what I'm paying £430 for, it's daily disappointment.

You guys know how when you make a netflix account you have to specify what you will be using it on? Well, will you mess up your account by signing in on the xbox one?

Specify? I use Netflix on my laptop, Samsung G2, smartTV and Xbox 360. Haven't specified anything and nothing is going to get messed up. Doesn't matter which one you use to sign in.

Forgive me if i'm being stupid. These are just the apps that will ship with the console right? I live in the UK and have a Sky TV subscription. With the HDMI in i'm still going to be able to snap in and out of say Sky Sports 1 and back to Forza or something ... or can you only snap to the channels that there are apps for?

wtf am I reading...

Last time I checked you needed a subscription to Sky to watch "Sky", therefore already owning a "Sky box". However the Sky app was dramatically cut of a lot of programs you were able to watch? (Bare in mind I launched this when Sky was first released so a lot could have changed?).

Here's a simple solution; grab a HDMI cable, plug it into the Xbox One.

TA'DAAA!! You now have Sky on Xbox One.

Even more impressive is you can tell your Xbox One, "Xbox watch TV" and instant switching allows you to immediately switch to TV aka Sky. NO WAY! Unless of course you're awkward, wear a tin foil hat and don't want the government watching you touch yourself >_>

Because this is a UK based site. And hasn't the site already listed the US based apps before?

@15 you can still watch sky you know, like, through a sky box and tv, or a 360, or pc, or tablet or even a phone. Just because the xbox 180 doesn't have the sky app, doesn't mean sky will stop working

Some of you said as long as still play games. Xbox One is full gaming and you play games. TV, Musics and Movies is additions for part of Xbox One like Xbox 360 and people who like those prefer than play games. So Microsoft said before Games will be alway their main and most important than other but still force others too. :)

And Microsoft just keep giving me more reasons not to go next gen just yet. Seems more like a downgrade at the moment.
