Following up its fine work on Lord of the Rings and Hobbit tie-in MOBA, Guardians of Middle-earth, Monolith is now developing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, a third-person action title that promises an original story of "vengeance and redemption."
You'll play as valiant ranger Talion, who seeks vengeance against Sauron and his army, following the slaughter of his family and his own death. His own life extinguished, Talion is resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and imbued with Wraith abilities, and begins his journey into Mordor where he'll uncover the truth about the Spirit that drives him forward, learn the origins of the Rings of Power and finally confront his true nemesis.
At the heart of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is the 'Nemesis System'.
"Every enemy that players face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session," reads the press release.
"Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player."
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is being created in collaboration with Peter Jackson and WETA Workshop to ensure character authenticity and story alignment within the Tolkien canon. A release date for the game on Xbox 360 and Xbox One has yet to be confirmed.
