Dark Souls II Trailer is Cursed

"Your wings will burn in anguish, time after time. For that is your fate, the fate of the cursed."

Here's a new Dark Souls II trailer, courtesy of From Software and Namco Bandai.

A mix of CGI, gameplay footage and foreboding narration, the trailer also shows off some of the insanely creepy and outright terrifying beasts we’ll come up against in the sure-to-be crushingly difficult sequel. A monster made out of undead bodies? Hordes of giant spiders? Massive bloody... things? Jeez.

Watch the trailer below. Dark Souls II is out on Xbox 360 and PS3 in March 2014.

Really excited for this game!

Only fear is how being rated T might effect the online community.

@2 You're not missing much. Granted if you're a fan of this type of thing then you can look past what its missing.

It does have its good points. But dont let the fanboys hear you knock it, they might have a brain heamorrhage defending it to the death...

@2 well now would be the perfect time to start it up, learn the ropes and be ready for the new one when it drops. I fear I've grown soft in the year or so since I've played the original so part 2 is going to kick my butt!

I cannot wait for this game. After just completing it last week, the wait is on. Probably one of the main reasons I still have my 360.

It's a great game, I love it because it's challenging and rewarding when you beat it. Must be too hard for you.

Anyways... I want to get this day one, but titanfall comes out on this day also and I want that game so bad!!

Sexy. And all those bosses too? Man I can't wait. This should at least be a contender for GOTY in 2014.

Question: I've heard the combat in this game is stellar. I view the pinnacle of video game combat as Bayonetta and/or Devil May Cry. If I liked those, will I like these games?

@11 the gameplay is nothing like dmc and bayonetta. It's much more like skyrim except you do a lot more running away from your enemy because they all 1 hit you lol

That sounds positively horrible. Skyrim's combat was one of the weakest points of the game for me. Maybe I'll check out a demo of the first Dark Souls instead...

This game does not play like DMC, Bayonetta or Skyrim. It plays like Dark Souls. The game requires tactics to overcome most enemies. Skyrim has a really simple combat system where you can just swing wildly and get through the game just about fine. In Dark Souls, that will get you nowhere. Also, here's some gameplay:

@2 It's not as hard as you think it is. Just play it and you will enjoy it. There might be some things that you just don't understand though.

@ 15

That gameplay looks pretty clunky, I'll be honest. The atmosphere is pretty cool, and the visuals aren't half bad (look like an improved Divinity 2). Audio sounds good from what I can tell, it just looks so damn... clunky!

@17 i wouldn't really call it clunky, but it's not flashy in the manner of Bayonetta or DmC. Less is more in this game as far as combat is concerned. It's all about stamina management, blocking when you should, attacking when you have an opening, backing away when you need to recover, outflanking your opponents, etc. Very tactical and very unforgiving but once you hit that sweet spot understanding the mechanics it's pretty rewarding. The first one should be pretty cheap by now, start there and see what you think.

@17 That's because the weapons and by extension the combat has weight. Don't get me wrong I love the insane combos and beat em up nature of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. However there is no real visceral satisfaction in those. Sure you have to dodge by moving out of the way. But in DmC and Bayonetta once you dodge you are pretty much out of danger or at least have several seconds to catch you breath, In Dark Souls you are pretty much always in danger even if you dodge or block enemies are on top of you once again. It's hard, I'd say it's a bit harder than every Devil May Cry except maybe 3. It's definitely harder than Bayonetta. I dunno as a major fan of the Devil May Cry series and a fan of Bayonetta I really love Dark Souls.

The combat is way different but ultimately more rewarding and satisfying. But I absolutely suggest trying the demo first if you aren't sure. That's what they are there for! Have a great day.

@17, I know what you mean and felt that way too at first. It's less clunky and more...what's the word, visceral? Like every swing has an impact. You feel the motions of the weapon and your character. I didn't think I would like the first game, but I ended up loving it.

@21 You actually made me lol. That and the 7 downvotes for an opinion. Jesus, spam doesnt even get that many.

And i respect your opinion.

Some people must have missed that i said it has some good points to it. Eg, the boss/mini boss designs are great, with some excellent creativity on behalf of the devs. The world was nicely detailed too. Overall though, it just want for me.

@3 It's because the ones that "knock it" are the ones who enjoy more casual games and Dark Souls was too difficult for you to get past the first boss in the game. When you compare games with them they have a grand total of 2 achievements meaning they played it for an hour, determined it was too much of a challenge and decided to hate it instead.

There is a tremendous lack of games with a legitimate challenge anymore because developers appeal to the masses who would rather breeze through an easy game instead of making it tough. Old school gamers that grew up with games that were insanely difficult appreciate the approach that Dark Souls took.

@27 I completely agree with you. Dark Souls was one of my favorite games in this generation just because its hard (until you figure out how to play the game. I even completed it twice because I liked the game so much...

Cant wait for the next Dark Souls.

The idea of DMC heing the pinnacle of anything positive is hilarious. You keep playing crap games, your presence on good games won't be missed

Cool your jets there. Eat a eucalyptus leaf and relax.

Both DmC and the HD Collection scored very well on this website, so calling them crap and insulting my taste just seems like a knee-jerk reaction to my initial reluctance to this title.

For all of the other posters, I do appreciate your input. I can't find the demo for the first one on the XBL marketplace, so I might have to borrow it from someone else who has it.

After finishing Max Payne 3's achievements, I don't know how much more difficulty I can take in a single game. That may be why I like the "inferior" titles that are more accessible, like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. I like being able to go in and just beat the hell out of people without having to die thousands of times, and then learn the nuances from there.

Wouldn't really think that the rating would make such a difference. The violence in the Souls games is pretty visceral at times (bleeding effects, getting crushed, or even eaten), but I don't think it was ever anything M-worthy.

I doubt the community's opinion would be affected by something so trivial, when there are so many other great changes being made from the original Dark Souls.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I couldn't get away with the first Dark Souls game and I very much doubt I'll play this one when it comes out.

I'll be taking a look when my mate gets it, which he will, as he's one of those people who can and does invest ten of hours, if not hundreds, in games like this. I might even start a game, but I doubt I'll ever play it through.
