Dead Rising 3 had shipped over 1 million units worldwide by December 20th 2013, Capcom has revealed.
The Xbox One exclusive released alongside the console on November 22nd, in Europe, North America and the other launch territories. The shipments take the franchise’s total to over 7 million.
"With the popularity of the Xbox One expected to continue to increase, Capcom is aiming to sustain sales of Dead Rising 3 by launching additional downloadable content with the goal of generating more excitement in the gaming community that can support a long-lasting business associated with this title," said the publisher in a statement.
The first Dead Rising launched in August 2006, selling around 2 million copies to date. Since then the series has had seven sequels and spin-offs, across consoles and mobile. In 2010 the series changed hands from an internal Capcom studio lead by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, to Blue Castle Games, now known as Capcom Vancouver.
It’s worth noting that “shipped” does not mean sold. Instead it refers to the number of copies sent to retailers.
