Microsoft has debunked last week's rumours surrounding a cheaper model of Xbox One, speculated for release at the lower, more competitive price point of $399. Said rumour originated on NeoGAF as most of these things do, amid a whole plethora of speculation regarding various plans supposedly being concocted by Microsoft.
These rumours included a 1TB console and a disc-less machine. Chief of Staff for Devices and Studios Group at Microsoft Aaron Greenberg had the following to say on the matter.
@TheAnchormanV No, you cannot believe everything you read on the internet..— Aaron Greenberg (@aarongreenberg) February 1, 2014
Meanwhile, Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer lamented the glut of rumours circulating, dubbing the situation a "bummer".
@xUNIFIEDx No comments on all the posts obviously but is kind of a bummer. Gets people worked up over things that we didn't say.— Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) February 1, 2014
As we observed originally, an Xbox One price cut is inevitable at some point, but some of the rumours from last week are more likely than others. For instance, Forza Horizon 2 sounds like a fair shout, as does Crackdown 3 for 2016 and Halo 2: Anniversary. As ever though, take rumours with a pinch of salt. Time will tell whether any of the speculation actually comes to anything.
