I'll be the same age as Marcus before another Gears comes out.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:41 AM
A new franchise would be better in my opinion.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:41 AM
I would've been fine with this.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:41 AM
Thank goodness they did. I'd be lost without Gears.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:45 AM
I've played Gears 1 for 200 hours. I've played Gears 2 for 300 hours. I've played Gears 3 for 1000 hours. I've played Gears Judgement for 7 hours.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:45 AM
"The core Gears values ....really didn't translate into the future approach we were taking with online games, and competitive and cooperative multiplayer,” There was me thinking GoW had a community that still play GoW3 online to this day, years (plural) after release.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:47 AM
I'm very interested in what direction a new Gears Of War game goesThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:49 AM
Interesting. Regardless, I'm extremely excited about the next installment in the franchise.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:06 PM
Would of been better to leave it on the shelf in my opinion, the series could have more to it, though 3 pretty much sealed the end of the series, so there's only so much in it now. You could make a good RTS game from the series, but repeating whats already been wouldn't be the wisest move. We'll see what happens in the future, but if judgement was any clue, the future not looking that bright for the series.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:08 PM
I hope Black Tusk knows what they're doing. They have Rod with them, and he knows the core basics of Gears so that's good, but I'm still worried about it. I mean where do you take the series now? You can't move forward, because the main series is finished and the Locust are dead, reviving them would be an awful idea, but it's also not Gears without them, that leaves prequels, Pendalum Wars won't work, it was bad enough when Epic took the Locust out of Multiplayer, if Black Tusk took them out of the campaign the game would be dead on arrival, which leaves games set between E-Day and Gears 3's end, which does have enough time to tell a lot of interesting stories, but at the same time, when we know the final outcome, we know the Locust will die eventually, it makes it kinda uninteresting.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:10 PM
@ 3 admit it : my names nick and I'm a gears of war addict LolThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:16 PM
I remember reading that Judgment was the first of a new trilogy (from People Can Fly), this claim of letting the series sit on the self seems bunk. Then again maybe I missed the statement Epic might have reversed that with how bad Judgment sold. But in all actuality Gears has given me and my friends a lot of good times. It was the primary reason I wanted a 360. The original was so gritty and violent like nothing before it. So it's not bad that their are going to be more.... I hope.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:19 PM
yeah sell it before it fails a win for epic gamesThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:21 PM
I always thought a "halo wars" type of game would work well in the gears universe, 4 teams lambent, locust, gears, mercs(?) It would look awesome to see 150 gears units charging at 150 locusts backed up by berserkers and tanks etc hammer of dawn strikes you get the picture. Hero characters etc blah blah Anyway glad they are still gonna keep gears goingThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:26 PM
I look forward what new game Epic will bringing. I hope it is new IP game. Microsoft need to calm down with Gears of War plus Gears of War 4 need to have longer campaign. Not 3 to 7 hours like every Gears of War series. GoW 4 must have 10 hours or more with better balance for online multiplayer as well better Horde modes. No stupid modes like Gears of War Judgment. :)Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:30 PM
@5 that sounds about right mate 7 hours of judgement hahaThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:48 PM
Gears is only Gears if Marcus remains in it so they need to do prequals to the Story theres plenty to choose from if you have read the books... So Gears 0.5 or 1.5 or 2.5 if you go by the books.... Or leave it alone as 1, 2 & 3 were awesome never got very far on Judgement it was boring & didnt feel the same!Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 12:57 PM
"Selling an IP like that is a rare thing. Most companies look at it as their crown jewels but at Epic we had a practical view of it: we weren't going to build it and we realized the world wanted more Gears of War." so basically they wanted the millions of dollars from microsoft insteadThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 01:07 PM
Imagine a Defiance style MMO game, but wih the huge budget of a GOW AAA game behind it? You'll just be playing a grunt rather than named soldier so could be set at any stage of the war.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 01:09 PM
This is a good thing. We get a new Gears game and get a new IP from Epic. Sounds like a win-win.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 01:15 PM
I enjoyed the campaigns in all of the Gears games, that I just want to see it continue for that reason.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 01:21 PM
they probably gonna regret it.. i mean, judgment was already a big letdown from people can fly imho (even though i like bulletstorm allot) so i'm not so jumpy on a gears game from another studio i dont really know of :P so im gonna hold my judgment till i see more things from gears 3 returnThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 01:28 PM
Gears 1 to me was the best multiplayer... took skill to play... 2 to 3 started turning into a noob friendly game..judgment totally went call of duty... I'm talking multiplayer, SP got better every time...judgments was trash imo... I hope this next one will go back gears 1 style but that's alot to hope for..Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 02:04 PM
@10 I thought halo 3 was going to be the final game in the series. They made 4games after that. Anyway I think the only thing they can do is say that somehow some Locust eggs or whatever survived at the end of 3. Then basically have E Day2. Which would b cool bcuz we could see Marcus at a grocery store or something. Then the Locust attack and he kills all of them.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 02:06 PM
I think Epic are crazy. Sure I can understand wanting to do different things, but to just give up on the franchise that made them a name is absurd.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 02:40 PM
@25 But Halo 3 didn't end with the Covenant been completely wiped out, it made sense for there to be a Halo 4 because the trilogy ended on a pretty big cliff-hanger, also Reach was a prequel in the same vain as Judgment. Saying somehow some Locust survived would be an insult not only to the original trilogy, but to the fans of the series too, the Locust where killed at the end of 3, and Black Tusk needs to respect that if they have any chance of been taken seriously as the new developers of Gears of War.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 02:43 PM
Good ol' Rod Rod Ferguson. Personally, I only played 3 to finish up the story. I always tried to get into the MP side of GoW, but never could. Just never saw the hype. Never played Judgement. I think it would have been fine to sit on the shelf (or never come back again) but under a new developer it might actually bring something new to the table. I think a new IP would be the way to go instead of rehashing GoW.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 02:44 PM
Gears 1 & Viva... what a combo that was. It's sad that they were going to do this to Gears.I have so much invested into the series.Letting it go is pretty much impossible. Judgement made it EASY to step away though. As long as the next Gears game is NOT Judgement 2, I'm all in.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 03:35 PM
Gears of War was safe peaceful and relaxing but everything changed when Microsoft attacked only Epic Games can bring peace but they vanishedThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 04:14 PM
Not a good move by Epic, but I would take new Unreal game over new Gears game any day. Where did they see that ppl want more gears though, is a mystery to me. I frequented the forums and saw ppl only complain about this and that and still more of them play gears 3 than judgement (rightly so). I do hope it will be good few years, before new gears game comes back and when it does it returns to its glory of old days not become another downward spiral of sequels..Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 04:28 PM
This is fine but they need to reboot the series. Same core, fresh details. Don't continue what's there.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 04:33 PM
Microsoft even said that Black Tusk was rebooting the series, so it seems that they aren't going to try and follow up after GoW3.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 05:55 PM
I love this game.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 06:19 PM
Please make a halo wars style game. But with more campaign than HW. I wish we had a covenant campaign in that.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 06:25 PM
What about sortin out the events for gears judgment. At the moment it's impossible to get the events cheevo!!!!!!!!'Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 06:27 PM
@6 the approach Epic is taking, so they are probably gonna focus on games that aren't cover based and/or 3th person. @35 That would actually be a great idea :) Good of Epic that they let it go and thought of the community! :)Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 06:30 PM
Letting Gears sit on the shelf for a decade sounds like bullshit to meThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 06:45 PM
THANK YOU M$!!!!!!! Gears is my favorite online vs game of all time! I'm glad I don't have to wait a whole decade for another game. Just because a lot of people have the attention span of a peanut doesn't mean that gears is dead. Sure it had one bad game but I know 100% that if this next game is done right ( ditch the bs that judgement brought ) gears will once again be the top online game beside shit COD. To me the cover based, team gameplay of gears can't be matched by any game since it came out. Thank u thank u thank u.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 08:33 PM
@#39 "cover based, team gameplay of gears" - gnasher and sawed off **cough** cough***Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 10:21 PM
I really hope M$ doesn't screw this series up. Judgment was terrible, so as long as they go more of off GoW3 then we should be good lolThursday, March 27, 2014 @ 10:43 PM
should've been shelved.Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 10:54 PM
whos Rod Rod?Thursday, March 27, 2014 @ 11:41 PM

Just no more fucking stupid grindy Seriously achievements. @44 what's the point, like 90% of the time, regardless of the list, the weapon people use are fucking shotguns, is there a point to a giant stupid list of game modes?Friday, March 28, 2014 @ 04:30 AM
@44 I don't even know where to begin with what is wrong in that list.Sunday, March 30, 2014 @ 05:12 PM
Well done on ruining your own franchise EPIC games. EPIC fail more like. Gears of War universe has so many stories that could be adapted into good video games.Sunday, April 06, 2014 @ 02:20 AM
Would be nice if someone sweeped up Unreal Tournament from them as well.

Epic Games had no intention of continuing the Gears of War series in the near future, before the decision was made to sell the IP to Microsoft.
Speaking to Polygon at GDC last week, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney explained that, "We've gone through a long process of figuring out the games we're going to build at Epic worldwide in the future and we concluded that we weren't going to be building any more Gears of War.
“As much as we love the game, we're heading in a new direction."
"The core Gears values are really tied to being big event-based, single-player console games with awesome cover mechanics and other things that really didn't translate into the future approach we were taking with online games, and competitive and cooperative multiplayer,” continued Sweeney. "Because we weren't planning on building any more Gears games we were just going to let that sit on the shelf for a decade or more, in case it had any future value to us."
Instead Microsoft stepped in and bought the rights to the franchise, putting new studio Black Tusk in charge of making a new game in the series and snapping up Gears producer Rod Rod Fergusson to head the project.
"It was one of those rare moments when both Epic and Microsoft were able to make a business that was obviously best for the community,” said Sweeney. "Much better to have Microsoft building Gears games than for it to be sitting on the shelf unused by Epic.
"Selling an IP like that is a rare thing. Most companies look at it as their crown jewels but at Epic we had a practical view of it: we weren't going to build it and we realized the world wanted more Gears of War."
