Gearbox Recommends Changing SHiFT Passwords Following Security Breach

Gearbox has been sending out emails to its SHiFT members, informing them of a security breach impacting the service. It's recommended that all community members reset their passwords at their earliest convenience.

"Recently, a security issue known as Heartbleed was discovered. This issue impacted Amazon Web Services, the service that powers Gearbox’s SHiFT system," the email reads. "Gearbox has taken steps to correct systems exposed to the issue by patching affected software and rotating potentially compromised SSL certificates."

SHiFT is the service that enables fans of Gearbox's games to obtain bonus items using special codes, like the Gold Keys for special loot in Borderlands 2. You can reset your SHiFT account password here.

  • I was pretty sure Amazon stated that they weren't affected by Heartbleed?
  • Its not just gearbox/shift. Its basically everything on the internet.
  • @2 amazon have stated that everything is fine gearbox are just taking secondary precautions by recommending that everyone change their passwords. amazon and gearbox have addressed the problems now. here is the link to the issue and and steps taken to rectify it for those interested. http://aws.amazon.com/security/security-bulletins/aws-services-updated-to-address-openssl-vulnerability/
  • changed mine just in case.
  • what are they gonna get, my shift keys lol, HAVE THEM lol
  • Amazon.com and Amazon Web Services are two different things last I checked. :)
  • So I can't do my taxes online, AND I have to change my shift pw? Life sucks.
  • Misleading title - there was no breach, just a security flaw.
  • Heard of this Heartbleed issue, and acted accordingly. Already changed my SHIFT password, might do the same with other services I use.
  • @7 since AWS is an Amazon company, they are not. Here is the domain: http://aws.amazon.com/
