Rockstar Games has revealed the effect that the upcoming closure of GameSpy servers will have on its library of Xbox 360 and PS3 games, with Grand Theft Auto V being the only title in the company's back catalogue completely unaffected by the change.

"We want to give everyone a quick update on the actions we’re taking in light of GameSpy and GLU Mobile’s decision to shut down their backend servers this coming May 31," Rockstar writes on its support page. "While Grand Theft Auto V is unaffected, our teams are currently working to patch specific older titles to keep the transition as smooth as possible and minimize the impact to online-enabled play and your in-game experience.

"The majority of changes will be in the form of Rockstar Games Social Club services, including stat tracking and leaderboards."

The full list of changes that'll occur following the GameSpy shutdown on May 31st can be found below, with Rockstar Social Club stats and leaderboards to be disabled in the likes of Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV and Midnight Club Los Angeles.

  • I remember playing with GameSpy back in the 90's. Didn't realize how much it still affected games to date.
  • Original halo multiplayer through gamespy was amazing even though host won 99.9% of the times lol
  • I would hate to be a PS3 owner. It's a good think no multiplayer will be affected. However, the Red Dead Redemption multiplayer might as well be removed because it is a glitched nightmare.
  • It's great that people can continue to play all the multiplayer, and that no achievements are impeded. 10/10, Rockstar. Clap clap.
  • MIdnight Club Los Angeles / Complete Edition In-game Rate My Ride and Driving Test unlocks: Removed Does that mean the 2 RMR Achievements will become discontinued?
  • @5 I would assume so. Anyone who doesn't have those two should knock them out asap.
  • now we see why we are paying for multiplayer and ps3 user not
  • @4 Just think if this was EA. @5&6 Thanks for the heads up.That's part of my backlog. So is Red Dead..and Gta4..Max P3 and...... :(
  • They missed a trick not removing Red Dead's MP, it would stop people asking for a patch that will never come
  • Does anyone know what 360 games will be affected. I have a few games that I havent got round to playing yet. I may need to get some achievements done before the May 31 deadline.
  • Are you telling me that Midnight Club 3 mulitplayer is just NOW ending? I didn't think online play was still availible for PS2 games. Wow, that's a long lifetime.
  • Yay!!! Done with Midnight Club(multiplayer) RDR, and GTA IV. The last 2 im happy to say im completely done with. Rate my ride is completely fucked. I would rate a ride or 2 then say ive lost connection glad i fought through it as it was really frustrating.
  • Lol at above comments. What about Rockstar Table Tennis?
  • Guess I need to get Midnight club now if I want to ever play it for 1k. It's a great game.
  • @10 - Apparently you didn't read the article...
  • I am surprised they didnt shut the mp3 servers down. the multiplayer is dead. Red dead is more active.
  • Sweet I can continue my long list of Red Dead Online achievements after this month.
  • Im glad to hear RDR-GotYE multi is staying online.I just restarted along awaited replay to get back the cheevos I lost from a bad update from awhile ago.
  • Could someone clear this up. RDR will only lose the Social Club access? And thats it?
  • "Online multiplayer gameplay: Unaffected", this has proven to be bullshit.
