The brilliant Far Cry 3 has sold a whopping nine million copies since it was released in November 2012, Ubisoft has revealed.

As announced during yesterday’s Ubisoft investors call, the game sold three million copies during the year ending March 31st 2014, which when added to the six million sales reported in May 2013 makes Far Cry 3 one of the publisher’s best-selling games ever.

"Far Cry 3 has now sold 9 million units since its release in December 2012, which bodes very well for the launch of Far Cry 4 later this year," said Guillemot.

The news came during the same investors call that unveiled the upcoming Far Cry 4. Set in the Himalayas and set to be shown at E3 2014 next month, you can find more about Far Cry 4 through here.

  • Never this troll, moved on. Far Cry 3 is one of best games in 2012 and pleased it is sold massive than past FC series. I bet Far Cry 4 will be around same marks of FC 3's sells or raise high and making FC 4 become best sells in the series. We have wait and see. Also here site and myself gave FC 3's Game of the Year 2012. :P I cannot wait for FC 4 so much. :)
  • Let's just hope Ubisoft's marketing team don't pull a 'stick of truth' on this and change all of the vast array of weapons into walkie talkies to avoid offending anyone.
  • Far Cry 3 was excellent. I hope Far Cry 4 is more of the same. We'll not talk about Far Cry 2
  • What the heck happened to the comments?
  • Well I guess 11 people pissed of the moderators lol. Anyways glad to know they have far cry 4 inbound. I just hope it doesn't find its way into 2016 like the division found 2015
  • I'm slightly worried since it only has a year or two of development time. I feel like if they wanted to make it better they would have given it 3-4 years
  • @15 That's what I want to know.Somebody went on a troll binge it seems.
  • I rea;;y enjoyed Far Cry 3, Vaas was both terrifying and entertaining and was portrayed excellently. I'm really excited for the next installment.
  • Do you know the definition of insanity?
  • @20 Trolling an article with spam comments that will inevitably get deleted? *Gasp* Maybe Vaas was here...
  • As a late bloomer with this game (still completing it) defiantly fixed the issues I had with FC2 (gun jamming). While the trippy parts were strange and it did seem rushed I can see how this game did so well. Things were done right and most of all ITS FUN! I hope other Devs take note and do more sandbox games. Who didn't like playing in the sandbox? Cant go wrong :P
  • Farcry 3 was good but i prefered farcry 2??? each to there own i guess.
  • Far cry 3 was the perfect example of what Fps should be. Open world, stealth, interesting story, not taking place during modern war, coop splitscreen...
  • Loved the campaign and the co-op was fun the first night I played it, but the run-and-gunners i've been online with since have made the co-op painful. Seriously: how many times do you need to die at the same checkpoint before you realize that running away from cover and the teammates who can revive you is unwise? But I digress....great game. Looking forward to FC4.
  • @23 Me too, besides the garbage guns that jam constantly. You needed the gold AK. Why are people so hateful on shit? That's why I think the majority of this site is children ages 10-14. Nothing but immaturity in these posts. I didn't like FC4 because it seemed too cheap. The story wasn't very good, and the ending really sucked. The island was kinda cool and the guns were better than the previous. I wished they made a Blood Dragon type with a full game release. It was interesting. They should ditch the multiplayer and focus all content on single player. Less repetitive activities, and more unique exploration. Both those things were lacking on FC3.
  • @26, you didn't like FC4 because it seemed too cheap? Damn.... I'm jealous you got the game only 6 months early..
  • Really, we should be talking about Blood Dragon, and why Blood Dragon should be getting a sequel.
  • Didn't get the hype about FC4, really! All I saw was a mediocre shooter with aspects of other games (towers from AC, hunting and skinning animals from Red Dead and so on). Shooting felt uneventful, driving was akward at best. Having said that, I LOVED Blood Dragon, because of Biehn, the b-movie story and the 80ies mood it had! Was also the only game I ever bought the soundtrack from! Ubisoft, make.more.Blood Dragon!!!
  • FC4 isnt even fucking out yet why the shit is everyone talking about it.
  • @17 : It's always faster when you reuse the same game engine you developped for the previous games. I personally liked FC3 (and bit more FC3BD) so I'm looking towards FC4 (as I really love stealth games, FC3 was pretty appealing with it's stealth-possibilites. But it's not a game I played for the story, that's a fact.
  • @24 and qte boss battles *sarcasm* btw i'm not looking for thumbs down but FC2 was more fun to me than FC3. FC2 sure has somme annoying issues like the respawning enemies, gun jamming... But at least i had more fun, all the missions are about to shoot enemies, it's sure repetitive but it was fun and without talking about those crazy bastards shooting you with rocket launcher and mortars making the carnage even more interesting. Most of FC3's story missions were boring or frustrating like having to explore some annoying ruins, railshooting, annoying visions and hallucination parts where you just have to walk, i also hated the mission where i had to stay for 5 or 10 minutes in a tiny place because i had to protect some crap and of course the EPIC BOSS BATTLES with qte's...
