Xbox One Digital Pre-Ordering Outed by Latest Episode of Sunset TV?

The latest episode of Sunset TV, which reveals new info and answers community questions about the upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive, is quite an interesting one. Not because they expound on the opening cinematic revealed at RTX this week (which looks awesome), and certainly not because of the molten lava amp (which also looks awesome), and most definitely not because we learn how the presenter hurt his finger (which is lame). No, it is interesting because Insomniac have seemingly confirmed that Digital Pre-Ordering will be coming to Xbox One in the coming months.

Answering the first community question "Will I be able to get the Day One Edition content if I download it from the Xbox Marketplace?," he claims: "Yes, if you pre-order the game digitally, you will get the Day One Edition content. You can't pre-order it digitally yet, but soon you will be able to. Also, there'll be a little 'nifty-gifty' exclusive for digital buyers as well." Not really any other way to take that. We'll wait for an official confirmation from Microsoft on the matter, but that's one hugely requested feature for the Xbox One you may be able to check off your wishlist. And with that around the corner, certainly pre-loading your pre-ordered digital game with its bonus pre-ordered content shouldn't be far behind.

Sunset Overdrive will be available exclusively on Xbox One from October 28th. Check out this week's episode of Sunset TV below, and watch this space for more information on the digital pre-order saga as it unfolds.

  • Hopefully you'll get the digital bonus content with it as well, else it doesn't matter if you buy it on the release date or pre order it.
  • Awesome news!
  • @1 I would imagine that's the whole point of it. Microsoft probably think the reason no one buys from their marketplace is because of the lack of things like pre order bonuses, when in fact it's the ludicrous pricing. That's why I only ever buy things that are on offer (and are actually cheaper than in the shops or on the internet).
  • I'm pretty sure I read something stating that the digital pre-order would come with the same preorder (digital) bonuses that the physical ones would have.
  • I buy all games digital now thanks to gamesharing with a friend making each purchase effectively half price so this would be nice if we can get the bonuses and maybe even pre load games so we start them on launch
  • I rather have all my games on disc, that's the best way to have them for me and the proudest way to showcase them!
  • The problem is that Best Buy offers GCU 20% off and a $10 RZ cert for preordering. What kind of monetary discount can MS offer to get me to preorder digitally? I'd love to go all digital this gen but they need a program similar to BB to get me to buy from them.
  • The problem is which digital is that you own nothing you are just in effect renting it at high cost. Plus what do you do when u have finished it? You cant trade it in or anything. And if you un-install it you have to re-download it if you want to play again and some games are 50gig that would become annoying pretty quickly
  • Oh and the digital prices are fucking ridiculous compared to the retail version.
  • This would be awesome! I've wanted to do this since day one. I hope it happens in time to try the Destiny beta.
  • I refuse to pay Digital prices. Why spend £52.99 for a game you dont actually own when you can spend £42.99 for a hard copy thats yours forever. No DLC incentive is ever going to sway that.
  • #8 that's the other thing. The part about trading at least. I don't know about "not owning" games digitally ...I mean if you don't plan on cancelling XBL anytime soon then what does it matter.
  • @12 because him as well as me want to put our ha do on our 60 dollar product. If they reduce the price to say 30 bucks at launch then they would see more people go digital. The problem is that why would we pay 60 bucks for digital and not have the freedom that hard copies provide. Def since disc cost the same. Ms nor ps will ever end the disc versions due to the over pricing
  • As a digital purchaser, there are a few benefits if the circumstances fit. If I purchase a game digitally I can play that game on multiple Xbox devices at the same time (for the price of a single download). This is great for households of multiple children or co-op sessions with a significant other. Additionally, if you travel a lot (or your discs are normally tarnished from children) you need to worry about bringing your Xbox One along with you. I purchased Titanfall digitally on sale for $40 but since it is running on two Xbox Ones at once, it feels like I spent only $20 per copy, which is worth it to me. For those who can't take advantage of the above, Xbox digital sales certainly are not worth it for you at this point. As a collector, I never sell my used games, but can certainly understand other people's positions.
  • Download games can be cheaper than discs despite what some may try to tell you about "retailers forcing companies to stuck to RRP or higher" Say the Disc version was £40 at launch and the download is say £33. People will still buy the disc version as they want to trade it, sell it or give to a friend etc. This would work but you have shills and biased people talking crap. I turned off a gaming podcast (the patch) when they spouted the same shit about retails forcing companies to keep downloads higher. its shit because DLC and XBLA never go down in price unless a sale appears.
  • #13 I agree about pricing although $30 might be a little unrealistic. Even if you could get pre-orders digital for $39.99 (just $20 off) that'd be enough to purchase through XBL.
  • @15 I agree the weak that theif came out I got that 30% off sale on weekend
  • bring down the digital prices first then ill certainly start to buy more digital games and pre-order digital games as well. at the moment theres no point with buying digitally as i can save more money and just wait a few days for a game if i buy it online.
  • Pre orders are killing the industry by giving money to developers that have yet to deliver a a functioning product, digitally or otherwise.
  • This better include pre loading
  • I only buy digital on Xbox One. So, I guess this is cool. Though, I haven't preordered a game since Borderlands 2.
  • *Clears throats* FINALLLLLLYYYYYY *DwayneThe Rock Johnson voice*
  • So dumb to go digital. When they stop supporting the one in five years because they came out with another unnecessary console with no decent games and then shut down servers you won't be able to download them again or play them. Gone are the days of playing games years later. My NES and Genesis still work fine and I can play the games and enjoy all the content twenty years later. But the ADHD culture taking over the planet says if something is ten seconds old its irrelevant and you're an idiot for wanting it to work still.
  • I used to think this guy wasn't that funny and tried to hard but now for some reason he has grown on me haha great news tho its crazy how much they can keep showing whats in the game, I just hope they keep some surprises for launch day :)
  • I love digital games. I don't have to get up and change disks. I have two One's and I didn't have to do a license transfer like I did with the 360. Another plus since I can buy 1 game and it can be used on multiple consoles.
  • @23 the 360 is 9 years old... And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can still download games on it. I'm not fond of digital due to the pricing though. Even if a game was, for example, £50 on disc at release, or £30 digital, I'd still buy the disc because I'd be able to trade it in for around £30-35, maybe even more, so it'd still only cost half as much as the digital game
  • @8 "The problem is which digital is that you own nothing you are just in effect renting it at high cost. Plus what do you do when u have finished it? You cant trade it in or anything. And if you un-install it you have to re-download it if you want to play again and some games are 50gig that would become annoying pretty quickly" "Renting at a high cost", have you ever rented a game? It was around $8 a week, now THAT is expensive. Also, it's not renting at all. I purchased the game and I downloaded it. At that point they can't take it off my console I OWN it. Maybe it will be a pain when XBOX live is no longer available but at that point these games will be emulated so who gives a shit? P.S. It takes me about 4 hours to download 50gb its not long.
  • I'm all for disc based games. You get physical stuff in the collectors editions, it takes 15 minutes to download off the disc for a 45GB game, if you live in an area that you can trade it you can. If your like me and live in a area that doesn't even have a Walmart and have to Amazon everything because the internet takes 8 hours to download a 50Gb game than you may see the benefit to disc based games. I don't mind the concept of digital games i have a few like smaller ones: Peggle 2, PVZ:garden warfare, Titanfall, Sniper elite 3.
  • I have no intentions of using this digital service. Mainly because I can walk to my nearest gamestop and pick up the game. When im done with it, I can walk back & trade it in.
  • Welcome news indeed now if they could confirm the digital guardians edition of destiny for xbone I'd be all set.
  • Think if you can pre-load a pre-ordered game that would be immense, but prob only use it on games that you know your going to invest hours in...maybe if they do it with Diablo3 for XB1...or the new Mass Effect games/series...etc...but think costs are still a major issue for people,i have used it for some games (watch dogs/wolfenstein/fifa) so preference is key.
  • but why would i buy it for £55 when i could go the shop and buy a hard copy for £40. Then trade it in at a later date for money off another game?
  • With the mention of both Scott pilgrim and sailor moon, I'd hope they'll be in there somewhere =P Even if it's just scott pilgrim music and sailor moon costume I'd be happy!
  • @#8: It's really not like that at all. When you make a digital purchase on XBL, you buy the rights to the digital LICENSE to the game, allowing you to download, delete, and re-download at your own convenience, whenever you please. Discs scratch, discs break, discs can be lost, stolen, stepped on, chewed up by animals, taken away by parents (if you're a kid), and are just generally more susceptible to the harsh environments of the world. That digital license you pay for, is going to be with you for as long as the company chooses to uphold it, which should be indefinitely in most cases, but even when it's not, all you have to do is keep the download on your hard drive, a USB, a back-up or external hard drive, or something of that nature, and you never have to worry about it. Sure you could make the argument that your hard drive or usb could be ruined just like the disc, but comparatively, how often do you here about inoperable hard drives compared to bummed out discs?
  • @35 hard drives fail all the time... And if it's an Xbox one you're pretty much fucked because it's non removable. The discs are Blurays, which are pretty much indestructable, a buddy of mine cracked one and STAPLED it back together and it still works perfectly! not to mention if/when the 360/One XBL go down and your console breaks you no longer have the licenses if you purchase a new console... Oh and FYI digital on Xbox One is useless offline, try to play one when not connected to XBL (spoiler alert) you can't.. have fun "owning" those digital games ;)
  • Hmm, since I go 335$ in Gamestop 5$ giveaways I may go digital for a few games
  • @36 I had no problems playing Max:TCOTB offline after I downloaded it. Also, you are incorrect about digital licenses on the Xbox One. The digital licenses are tied to your gamertag, not the console.
  • THe only reason I don't like pre-ordering digital is because you have to pay all $60 upfront.
