EVO 2K14 Ultra Street Fighter IV Champion Triumphs... Using a PlayStation Controller

Olivier "Louffy" Hay triumphed in the Ultra Street Fighter IV final of the EVO 2K14 Championship Series this weekend, breaking a number of records in the process. Louffy defeated Bonchan in the final playing as Rose, a character traditionally considered to be at the weaker end of the series' roster.

Rose is now the first female character to win a SF4 championship, while Louffy becomes the first European to win the tournament. He’s also the first player to triumph using a controller instead of an arcade stick. Most notably, it wasn’t just any old controller. It was an original PlayStation controller. Which makes Louffy even more badass in our books.

You can see the results from all of the EVO 2K14 Championship below. Below that you’ll find a video of Louffy’s win. Watch it and weep. You're never going to be that good.

  • A frenchman wins Evo for streetfighter (its always been asian champs) and Wong beats Chris G at MvC3. What a tournament? Some great shock results IMO.
  • No matter the game, I always love it when people win with low-tier characters. Grats to him !
  • Is that really how tournament fighting game matches go down? Just spamming ranged attacks and baiting each other into trying a combo?
  • #3, I know. spamming fireballs are fun to watch. I'm glad rose wins.
  • @1 looked pretty Asian to me
  • The player using Sagat just fireballs and turtles..........
  • @5 Haha yeah but i meant asian based.
  • If you guys thought watching Sagat was my bad you should have seen Snake Eyes playing Zangief. So boring -_-. Congrats to all the winners though and everyone who even made it to the final eight. No matter what strategy was used it does take a lot of dedication and skill to have even made it that far in the tournament.
  • Sounds impressive. I only watched KI as it's the only fighter I play and the finals were pretty exciting.
  • Sure looks like 2 Asian guys playing Street Fighter to me. So while it may be PC to name them Europeans, let's be honest. If I moved to China no one would say I am an Asian or Chinese champion.
  • so have any of the considered the possibility that he is a frenchman of asian descent? or does that go overhead completely?
  • #3 Your lack of fighting game knowledge shows. You obviously have no idea what zoning is. It's not spamming.
  • Hes french, as in he comes from france... colour of skin is irrelevant. Cant believe this is actually turning into a debate because whats really important at the end of the day was a European went to America and won at the biggest fighting game tournament of the year. We all love an underdog story - especially when said underdog used a generally unpopular character and had to come from losers bracket to take the victory - odds were totally against him.
  • @#12 your lack of fighting game shows. this is definitely spamming.....zoning would be using the fireballs to bridge the gap between you & your opponent while keeping them on the defensive until you can attack, This was just spamming & that's what Capcom based tournaments have become...it's all about spamming specials & that's why you no longer see DOA & SC at the big tournaments & if it wasn't for combo juggling you wouldn't see TK either
