Mortal Kombat X will be getting a guest character or characters when it releases next year, following the success of Freddy Krueger's appearance in the previous Mortal Kombat game and Scorpion's guest spot in Injustice: Gods Among Us

"Freddy Krueger was the most downloaded character in Mortal Kombat 9," Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon told Polygon during EVO 2014. "Scorpion was the guest character in Injustice, and he was the most downloaded character in that game. It's working out for us, and I'd be surprised if we ignored those numbers."

However, MK X's guest star will not be a DC character, Boon confirmed. "I'd be hard-pressed to have a DC character as a downloadable character in Mortal Kombat X. The main reason is, I have no desire to cut Batman's head off. I have no desire to kill Superman."

NetherRealm might not be finished with the DC universe though, as a return to the Injustice series could be on the cards in the future. "Injustice did really well for us, so I would hope that maybe someday we will do another one," Boon stated.

"There are certain things that I feel are signature to that game... From my perspective, there's the Mortal Kombat universe, where you can do the extreme violence. The Injustice universe is superheroes and more over-the-top stuff as opposed to blood and gore."

Mortal Kombat X will be heading to Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4 in 2015. Get our hands-on preview here and video interview with Ed Boon here.
