Devolver Digital has officially announced that retro reboot Shadow Warrior will be coming to Xbox One and PS4 in late-September, with Namco Bandai Games set to distribute the game in Europe and Australasia. Based on the 1997 classic, the Shadow Warrior reboot is billed as a "contemporary retelling" of Lo Wang's "comical rise to legend".

Telling the story of Lo Wang, Zilla Enterprises' corporate shogun, as he's ordered to track down and acquire a legendary blade. Learning of the weapon's connection to ancient gods from another realm, Lo Wang is forced into a battle that pushes the world to the brink of destruction. Wang won't be alone on his quest, however, as he's joined by banished spirit, Hoji.

Promising enjoyable gun, blade and magic combat mechanics, Shadow Warrior also adds revamped visuals, a new Arena Mode, all-new campaign and bonus weapons exclusive to the console version, including Serious Sam 3's sledgehammer, Hotline Miami's katana, the 'Zilla Enterprises Z45 katana' and 'classic Shadow Warrior katana'.

Shadow Warrior will be coming to Xbox One and PS4 for $39.99 on September 23rd in North America and September 26th in Europe. Check out some new screenshots below.

  • Haha I remember this game. It was pretty much Duke Nukem.
  • #1 This game is different to Duke Nukem. Duke Nukem is pretty much repetitive shooting at stuffs all times. Shadow Warrior is bit like to Red Steel, Fallout and Dead Island where you shoots at enemies and melee attacks through enemies in FPS as well storytelling follows. Duke Nukem Forever were god damned awful. Also PC version released last year and game is good positive received from reviewers so XB1 and PS4 will be same good with PC.
  • I do look forward this game because PC were good from last year. I didn't own PC version because PC games not my taste and I am more into consoles and I going preorder XB1 version sooner.
  • Any rpg elements to it or just straight shooter?
  • This looks interesting, budget game already, so let's jump on this when it release! I bet it gets bad reviews due it not being made by a big company.
  • @Akuza it got decent reviews on PC, so I guess it will be the same on consoles since it is the same game, maybe even better.
  • This game was so badass on PC. I'm not sure if those "bonus weapons" are listed..but those mentioned in the post are already on the PC version.
  • Looks much better then the previous reboots. Excited to play this again. And only $40. Day 1 grab.
  • @2 I meant the 1997 game. It was ran on the same engine as duke nukem. It was pretty similar. Not Duke Nukem Forever.
  • So will there be a day one demo? Or has that not kicked in yet?
  • TBH i played this on PC , graphically it's a marvel, plays really nice..but man..it gets old FAST! and it's 40$? are you insane??????
