Sorry Gamerscore hounds, it looks like the new generation of region-free gaming is not to be. The Xbox One will be launching in China next month, and after Chinese developers revealed a bunch of new games coming to our beloved console at the ChinaJoy Expo over the weekend, it has now been confirmed by Microsoft China VP Xie Enwei that the Chinese Xbox One console and all games released in the country will be region locked. This means that any games published in China will only play on a Chinese console, and any games published outside of China will not run on a Chinese console. This presents an added cost for importers both inside and outside of the country. There is no word yet if a Chinese console running outside of China will have full access to its digital marketplace, how purchases with foreign credit cards might work, or if any Chinese retailers will even be willing/allowed to ship outside the country.
The Xbox One will be released in China on September 23rd. Check out the trailer below for some of the announced games that will be coming to the Xbox One in China.
