Starbreeze has announced that Payday developer Overkill is working on a new game based on The Walking Dead. The game is called Overkill’s The Walking Dead and it’s being made in collaboration with the TWD’s creator, Robert Kirkman.

The game is described as a co-op first person shooter survival horror game set in The Walking Dead universe that will be “exploring new characters and storylines.”

Starbreeze’s CEO, Bo Andersson Klint says, “It will be gameplay focused, ferocious and bring chaos to the traditional industry model – from us developers straight to you. This time it’s big – don’t walk alone.”

Robert Kirkman added, “From day one on this project it’s been clear to me that this is the Walking Dead co-op action game fans have been waiting for. I can’t wait for people to learn just what Overkill has been cooking up for this game.”

Powered by an updated version of Starbreeze’s Diesel engine, Overkill’s The Walking Dead is out in 2016. You can watch the announcement trailer below. No platforms have yet been announced.

  • "Robert Kirkman added, “From day one on this project it’s been clear to me that this is the Walking Dead co-op action game fans have been waiting for. I can’t wait for people to learn just what Overkill has been cooking up for this game.” We can only hope.
  • Will they support the PC with patches and dlc but give console players nothing til almost a year later? Probably..
  • @2 You beat me.
  • So its basically left 4 dead mixed with borderlands and dead island?! No thanks overkill fucked all 360 owners with no support for payday despite saying they would support it for a year after release. Overkill can go fuck themselves
  • Robert Kirkman always seems so awkward doing things like this lol. Anything with The Walking Dead in it piques my interest. Hopefully it doesn't turn into Survival Instinct, who's bad reviews kept me away.
  • just hope that does not suck like Survival Instinct
  • @4 You do know that isn't overkill's fault right? They sent a patch for the game but Microsoft rejected it because the file size was bigger than the game. I'm sure they will do fine with a walking dead game. They can't do much worse than the last one survival instinct. If it's 2016 it should be next Gen and most things on the one have huge file sizes so patches shouldn't be an issue.
  • Christ, why are they even talking about this when it's not even due until 2016??
  • @8 lol true dat!!. What the fuck did I just watch?
  • @2 You realise it's Microsoft's fault and not them?
  • I'm sure it'll be XB1/PS4/PC, no reason to keep this exclusive. Sounds good but that's a long time away so we'll see.
  • @8 @10 They could've reduced the patch size by splitting it up into multiple patches. But goldfarb and overkill didn't feel like overcoming the one obstacle that Microsoft gave them. If they really cared about us console players, they would've managed a way to give us the things we deserve.. Basic game support. And that still doesn't explain them getting like 8 DLC packs and we still got nothing
  • Hope it's better than survival instinct
  • Not trying to double post (I guess it matters most in forums) but I know quite a few people have contacted microsoft through tech support, twitter, and other media outlets and they claim they never received a patch from overkill. What does overkill have to say about it? They remove twitter posts etc. whenever they are asked and avoid the question. They are even rude about it to boot. I'm apart of the FB group "overkill ignores consoles" and there's posted twitter messages/evidence to prove it. I'm not just talking out of my ass.
  • Having played the 360 version of Payday 2, I go with the sentiment of what some other people have posted: Fuck Overkill. I won't buy their games on principal alone.
  • @12 huh? I was talking about them discussing a game that's a minimum of 16 months away, next years Gamescom will have come and gone and this game will still be six months away from seeing light of day. It's pointless talking about a game when it's so damn far from release. I didn't even mention patches or whatevs, I've never even played Payday 2.

  • God Walking Dead needs to be dead already oh well hope it's better than survival instinct and show cause those are garbage the show is dead don't know why people still watch it, it was best at season 1 and 2 now it's shit my opinion
  • Well that was the worst teaser trailer I've seen in awhile.

  • @5: You should try it. I, personally, enjoyed it. It was a good premise with enjoyable gameplay. Not AAA material, but a fun little game.
  • As long as it's not the cash grab that survival instincts was then I am interested. No Demo + No pre-release reviews = Avoid at all costs.
  • I'm with everyone else, Overkill's support of console is disgraceful. They've lied, ignored us and given the most BS excuse of all time, "Microsoft said it was too big", like it's impossible to break it down into smaller files or even add it as a free DLC like Rockstar do with the GTA5 updates. On that alone I'll be giving this a miss, even if it does sound awesome as fuck.
  • So they're expecting this zombie fad to pan out to 2016? .. Wow.
  • Huh... on one hand, I'd love to give it a go because I love basically anything that has to do with TWD (even didn't hate Survival Instinct), but on the other hand, I have no desire to ever support Overkill in any way, shape, or form again after this whole Payday 2 debacle.
  • I actually liked Survival Instincts to a degree. But after hearing that Overkill are makin the game, and how they are with console support. I will hold back off purchasing the game until its been out a while. That's if it does get an XB1 release.
  • Yet another Walking Dead game by a developer that fucked me on one of their other games? I can't pass on this fast enough, lemme tell you. @#26 - Nice one, Akuza.
  • I must be the only one excited for this. @26 - You're expecting it not to? It's one of the most popular things right now. Deal with it.
  • 2016? Not worried about it for awhile then. lol
