EA Sports has announced that while the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of NHL 15 will boast the usual full suite of game modes, the Xbox One and PS4 iterations of the ice hockey title will be missing the EA Sports Hockey League mode (EASHL). The reason being that EA Sports wanted to focus on delivering a "truly next-generation gameplay and presentation experience" for Xbox One and PS4.

"When we finished NHL 14 late last year, we moved our focus to bringing NHL 15 to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4," writes NHL 15's Producer, Sean Ramjagsingh on the EA Sports website. "Our goal from Day One was to build from the core out and deliver a truly next-generation gameplay and presentation experience for all our fans to enjoy."

Here are the modes that will feature in NHL 15 on Xbox One and PS4:

  • Play Now
  • Be A Pro
  • Be A GM
  • Online Versus
  • Hockey Ultimate Team
  • NHL Moments Live

You'll also notice that Online Team Play is also not available for the Xbox One and PS4 versions of NHL 15, although "significant content updates" are promised for the game on new-gen consoles, as EA Sports looks to "optimises the gameplay experience" in the months following NHL 15's launch. Online Team Play will be among the additions to be rolled out as part of EA Sports' 'NHL 15 content update program'. Adding EASHL will not be a part of these plans.

"Decisions like this are never easy, nor do we take them lightly," Ramjagsingh adds. "We know that there is a passionate group of fans that loves these modes and is no doubt disappointed with this news; but we also know that this same group of fans expects a high quality gameplay experience above anything else. We’re a franchise built on quality, so launching these modes without confidence in their quality wasn’t something that we were willing to do."

NHL 15 will be out on September 9th.

  • Xbox 360 version again for this year then
  • will be released as DLC
  • Wow this is by far the worst idea EA could possibly do. EASHL and OTP are the only game modes I like to play. If anything they should get rid of HUT. But they won't because they can make extra money off of that mode after the game has already launched, from people buying packs of cards. Seriously so disappointing I swear. Now I'm really debating on if I want to even buy it now.
  • So I can't play on a team with my friends if I go with NHL15 on XBOX ONE? Gonna get the 360 version then. There is no excuse to not include EASHL.
  • Im sick of it, i am SICK of this utter bulls**t! Honestly ea would yous ever just stop being idiots.. Oh yea we want "truly next-generation gameplay and presentation experience" so just go and take out one of the most popular game modes yea that'l help!! You absolute clowns.. Hope the game sales for this are absolute rubbish and the people behind this desicion get fired. Just so fed up with ea and their crap! its bad enough they copy and paste the same games every year but now they just take out eashl.. Its ok though just leave it on the 360 and ps3 versions but what about these new almighty consoles? Nooooo that would be too good to be true. Heres $60 yous wont be getting. And im sure i wont be the only one.
  • Oh and p.s... #2 has it spot on.. If they do release it theyl probably try and charge us extra for it, and then try and attempt to make it look like its in the best interest for the consumer.
  • Thankfully, there's another game coming out on the 9th for the XBO that promises to be a lot better!
  • This was literally my most anticipated games to get on Xbox One, but I once I read this article I could careless about it now. Why? Why is this really happening? How the fuck did anyone at EA think this would go over well with anyone who plays this game?like honestly what the fuck? I want to punch these idiots at EA in the face right now.
  • I was pretty disappointed too when I read about this. The good thing is the demo comes out in less than a week. As long as there isn't a time limit on how long you can play then the demo should be just as fun as the full game... It'll keep me going until NHL 15 is in the EA Access Vault at least. Time to cancel my preorder.
  • Wtf no eashl, I guess I will pass on this.
  • I haven't bought an Xbone/PS4 so I'm not overly bothered by this. However, if I had bought a new console and this happened I'd be a little pissed off. Most games still appear to be released on both generations but having a more "complete" game release on the older generation is a bit of a kick in the nuts. Also a clear case of EA pumping out something half finished and still expecting us to give money for it. (I'm not even an anti-EA person in general).
  • To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. EA waits until three weeks before release to unveil this little tidbit of information. I have been a fan of EA NHL games for a long time now. I have both xbox systems and was extremely excited for hockey on xbox one. I honestly dont know whether to keep my preorder on the one or switch to 360. EA needs to keep their loyal fans more informed.
  • Looks like there is no GM Connected game play either. That's what my brother and I play, but we were getting the 360 version anyways since he doesn't have an XB1 yet. I'm just wondering if the game-play, announcers, etc. for the 360 are going to be the same as NHL '14 since the achievements, with the exception of 1, are identical to it.
  • Was also not very happy to read this! But at least EA can't copy/paste the XBOX 360 achievements to the version of the XBox One. ;)
  • This is inexcusable considering they had an extra year to refine this shit for next gen. Hopefully this means they added stuff to ultimate team but I doubt it.
  • #16 wouldn't this be a brand new game for XBO? And not an update of an older game? Updates can be done in a year, completely new games cannot
  • I think people forget this NHL is a brand new game, built ground up. Takes more time to do than a yearly polish and a handful of barely noticed updates. As someone who drops most of their time into EASHL, this fucking sucks. But I'll still enjoy the superior playing NHL game over the superior game mode NHL.
  • So EA's definition of a "Truly next gen experience" is to cut game modes and multiplayer altogether?
  • Is there also no "GM Connected" mode? That was my second favorite mode after EASHL. That cant take much effort really. Come on EA. Say it aint so? I want to play a dynasty with my brother across the country!
  • @20 It's so. No GM connected either.
  • AWESOME news, now I don't have for a game to start and not being able to rank up my player because of it, bring on HUT.
