Cue 'will chievos unlock' questionsThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:11 AM
Tbh id rather own a game forever than be able to play it for free temporarily. This is an interesting idea for those that may take intrest in thisThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:17 AM
I would really only use this on games i'm looking at getting if progress is saved (can't see why not though) but it's good for trying out games I don't plan on getting as it'll let me get further into the game than a 'demo'.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:21 AM
LOL if achievements do unlock then 24 hours would be MORE than enough to blitz through a bunch of games on the Xbox One. So either this will cost them money (at least for crappy easy games) or there will be some kind of stipulations attached. Maybe you only get to play part of the game? Or don't have access to all modes (if it has MP etc)? Could also be a good idea to get people into games they might not have played otherwise - so it'll be interesting to see what they do with it.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:25 AM
@2 Have you noticed what site you are on?Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:29 AM
Surely this can only been seen as a good thing for us gamers?Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:35 AM
This seems to be a vast improvement on the current lack of demos on the one. Even if you did unlock achievements I would imagine you would have to buy the game for them to pop, similar to how it is in 360 demos.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:35 AM
Sounds like a way to counter the very poorly priced PS now and Ps4 sharing. We are all forgetting while these incentives are a step forward there arnt enough bloody games available!Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:39 AM
Some how, I'm sure this will be spun somewhere a long the line to sound like a bad thing. Then Sony will do it, and everyone will jizz.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:47 AM
The Xbox support guys are full of crap, wouldn't put any faith in what they say.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:49 AM
Sounds like a great idea in principle, and like #8 says, it should help get round the lack of demos for the Xbox One. In theory it should be win-win for gamers and publlishers: we get unrestricted access to the full game for 24 hours, they don't have to invest the time in creating a limited demo version of the game, something that often leads to a lack of demos. Will be following this one with interest.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 09:59 AM
I think its a great idea as 1) there is a lack of demos on the One and 2) sometimes a demo is too restrictive and doesnt do a good job of "selling" the final productThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:16 AM
I hope its not limited to just previous Games with Gold. Probably will be though.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:23 AM
@6 Yes, hence the comment.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:28 AM
Another step in the please buy our Xbox one projectThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:31 AM
Hope it's not like PSPlus timed trials. I naturally assumed a 60min limit would be counted whilst the game is running, imagine my disappointment on finding out it's 60mins real time, game running or not.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:32 AM
by the time you actually download the game(especially if its a large one), the day trial will be finished lol. obviously if you have a very fast download speed its ok, but for someone like me, who has an average speed, its not really practical. Forza took almost 2 days to download haha.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:32 AM
@16 as opposed to the 'please don't buy our xbox one' project?Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:33 AM
@14 Kinda looks that way :-(Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:42 AM
Doubt that achievements would unlock. But you never know. Anyway, if you're not sure whether or not to buy a game, its a good oppurtunity to try before you buy.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:42 AM
@19 Amazing isn't it that some people seem to forget that it's a business....Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:47 AM
@22 Wait, you're telling me that Microsoft ISN'T a charity that helps entitled gamers:DThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 10:57 AM
sounds awesome... so like a trialThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 11:27 AM
@19 ye that was last year at e3 before all the u turns good job Microsoft don't make sat navsThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 12:00 PM
Hilarious how Xbox Support had no idea about it. Once again, someone making decisions and not informing all employees about it.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 12:34 PM
Would you be able to own it if you downloaded it? Why not just have trials for each of these games rather than making people download them before deciding they want it.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 12:36 PM
How about all you entitled gamers stop complaining when Microsoft gives you free games. Between the 360 and the One you get four free games a month you can keep FOREVER! Now they want to give you free games for a day to try out. What is the problem with that? Do you want every game for free all the time? If that's the way it was then there would be no consoles anymore. It wasn't too long ago there was no such thing as a digital download on a console. Each game had to be physically bought and NOTHING was free. Stop all this complaining and enjoy all the free games you get that I never got growing up.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 12:49 PM
@28 1: they arnt free you pay a sub 2: GWG x1 expire with your subscription. Before hammering out a block of aggressive text please may it contain factually accurate info.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 12:51 PM
So, it's EA gametime with less play time and apparently only indie titles [based on the pic]Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 12:57 PM
@6 Ki11erC "@2 Have you noticed what site you are on?" He's right in Xbox360 they do this to Fable 2 (Free) you can play the game but when you unlock an achievement it ask you to buy it to put the cheevo on your GTThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 01:06 PM
Ok..... That's cool I guess.. I think what Xbox needs is a cloud gaming platform that allows for backwards compatibly. And to crush Sony make it a yearly sub like ea access, but add on to gold. So you know have Xbox live silver(apps, basic features), gold(multiplayer,gwg,dwg) and platnium(movies with gold, an Xbox music pass, streaming of 360/original Xbox games) But then still rent the streaming of Xbox one games at the same price Sony does ps4 games.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 01:08 PM
@17 it's obviously going to be 24 hours real time not game time. Otherwise people would never buy games if you get 24 hours of active game playing there Is not many games that you could not complete (excluding most RPGS) in the time frameThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 01:15 PM
awww damn already own everythingThursday, August 21, 2014 @ 01:15 PM
So it's basically a demo. Gee that's ... not so great.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 01:27 PM
@18 it may not start the timer until the game starts, like digitally renting a movie for 30 days, but the 24hr clock starts when you hit play.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 02:00 PM
Just like what Valve (and now EA) have been doing for years, except they give you more time (3 days) since it's always on weekends.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 02:12 PM
I reckon it will be the same as playing a trial game on windows phone as you download the full game even though you only get to play a portion of it. You'll get a pop up that will say something along the lines of "If you purchase this game you would have unlocked (insert relevant cheeve here)" to entice you into buying it..Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 02:52 PM
Free games are great, but aren't these just the games previously available via GWG anyway?Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 03:23 PM
This may be a stupid question but is Max: Cyrse of the Brotherhood free with GwG now?Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 03:39 PM
@#9 It actually sounds like borrowing from PS+ book where you can play a trial for 60 mins on select games and if you buy it your progress and unlocks will carry over to full game. Great idea and it's been long time coming to Xbone IMO.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 03:50 PM
It really sounds like a good idea, though I am sure achievements won't unlock! I imagine just like on 360 demos, you'll get a message to buy the full game to gain the achievement you just unlocked. Thing is, this is a new incentive/way to force players to go digital!Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 04:13 PM
Umm am I the only one that was getting games for gold for the last few months on Xbox ONE? I believe it started at least two months ago... and I learned about it here...Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 04:24 PM
So basically a timed demo. Nothing new here, but this is something I will be using. If my progress and achievements that I may have possibly unlocked stick, then this will be a great addition to Xbox Live. Although, I will still buy the disc version of the games I was playing (unless it's digital only.)Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 05:21 PM
#44, if it works the same way as the hour trials from PS+, then you could get the disc after you use your trial and it'd work just fine.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 05:47 PM
@ #25 Oh look, another Sony/PS4 fanboy douchebag that's come on the site to troll and get some attention. What's the matter? Your Mum's titty too sore that she won't let you feed for a while, you fucking child? If you don't like the Xbox One then just fuck off to another website, you tool! I'm getting really fed up of the schoolboy "my console's better than yours" shenanigans in the comments here. Can people not just grow the fuck up? Oh, and before you start attacking me saying I'm a Microsoft/Xbox fanboy, I have a PS3, a PS4, an Xbox 360 and an Xbox One. They all have their pros and cons. People have a real short memory though eh? Sony completely pooched the last gen and how they managed to claw it back in sales I have no idea because they didn't listen to the fans and just did what they wanted. Their updates took a big steaming shit all over a large portion of their loyal customers but hey, it's Sony so we'll forgive them.....but not Microsoft, even though they've acknowledged they fucked up and are constantly updating the Xbox One to give the consumers what they want! Rant over.Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 05:55 PM
Preach it Loquacious B!!!

Microsoft is launching a new “Free Play With Gold” program, offering Xbox Live Gold subscribers 24 hours access to Xbox One games they do not own.
That’s what an image taken by Xbox One users and shared on Reddit suggests. The pic shows Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood in the Games With Gold section of the US Store, along with the words “Free Play Day With Gold.”
Microsoft has not announced any formal details on the feature, but one of the Xbox Support Twitter accounts has at least acknowledged it. Responding to an enquiry about Free Play With Gold, the account Tweeted, “It's something that we're currently looking into. Keep an eye on your Xbox One.”
24 hours free access to games you don’t own? Sounds great to us. We’re contacting Microsoft for more.
