Microsoft has said that the Free Play With Gold promotion spotted by an Xbox One preview program user yesterday was “posted in error.” The image suggested that Microsoft is considering a system in which Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be granted 24 hours free access to certain games. A tile for Max: The Curse of Brotherhood carried the tag, “Free Play With Gold”.
“A promotional tile for ‘Max: The Curse of Brotherhood’ was posted briefly on the US dash in error yesterday,” a Microsoft spokesperson told XBA. “We apologize for any inconvenience. We’re constantly exploring different ways to offer more benefits to our Xbox Live Gold members and will keep them updated when special offers become available.”
Microsoft’s response doesn’t help clarify the situation. The tile was obviously posted in error and there’s no doubt the platform holder constantly explores special offers. What we really want to know is - is it coming? Microsoft’s saying nothing for now.
