Halo: The Master Chief Collection is almost with us, and as we edge towards review day next week, we caught up with 343 Industries' Executive Producer Kiki Wolfkill, to talk about Halo's past, present and future.

That past is obviously the most important bit, with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3 and Halo 4 coming together all in one box, which is also kinda the present. As for the future, Halo: The Master Chief Collection comes with the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta, due to kick off on December 29th.

We discussed all of this and more with Wolfkill, ahead of Halo: The Master Chief Collection landing on November 11th, exclusively for Xbox One. You can also watch our Let's Play video below for more.

  • Does anyone know if the Halo 5 Beta is included even if you buy Halo: MCC digital? Not the actual CD Or will it be like how the Halo 3 beta was on Crackdown it was just in a certain menu in the game itself.
  • @1 the beta will be with digital and physical copy
  • That was always a concern for me that if each halo has it's own multiplayer obviously Halo 2 was going to be the most populated. Guess we'll have to see how the field plays out.
  • #1 It's included with the digital, look at the Xbox Store description. I have it preloaded already and can't wait!
  • Hey thanks for not including a transcript again.
  • Alright thanks guys for the info, now I can go ahead and preload it later tonight. I also can't wait, and for me Halo 2 will be the definite choice of online play.
  • In all honesty, I loved the Halo 2 multiplayer... Until about 6 months out. After that, cheating and glitching was so rampant that it simply was not fun to play anymore. The new maps and absolutely worthless guns of Halo 2 also made a lot of it not really worth playing after a while. So, with Master Chief Collection... Yeah, I'm dropping out of games that run on the Halo 2 engine. I'm never voting for the Halo 2 experience. I would have played these things if the company went "We've fixed all the absolutely broken portions of multiplayer in the game". But, with their stance of "We're not changing anything in the Halo 2 Multiplayer! HAVE FUN!" on top of their, "We are adopting Halo 2's ranking system to better determine skill!"... Yeah... Look how well that system worked in Halo 2. I'll stick with Halo CE, Halo 3, and Halo 4. Wake me if they ever figure out the "programmed in one year" Halo 2 crap. I'll hit the campaign, finish it, and move on. I got better things to do than play absolutely broken and unbalanced multiplayer that the devs who are "remaking it" have every intention of leaving absolutely broken and unbalanced for the sake of no skill tools who used them the first time around.
  • @7 Someone has sand in their vagina. The ranking system in Halo 2 was by far the best ranking system created for any video game. It rewards you for your skill, not by how much you play. As for the cheaters, it wasn't that bad. You report the cheaters and move on. The game was the first of its kind for online experience. You can't expect everything to be perfect in a game once you buy it. That's the way life is. They find the issues and they fix them.
  • @7 Have fun playing with the same people over and over again...not saying halo 1 3 & 4 are bad but 80-85% will be on halo 2...just so you know
  • Major Nelson is playing this right now the lucky sod!
  • According to halo waypoint, halo masterchief collection will have 4500 gamerscore...500 more with the day one update download. 50 more achievements!!! Halo is the best franchise ever!!!
  • I loved the first halo but then sorta never got round to playing any of the sequels so looking forward to this.
  • That stupid generic Kill medal is still in there, I hate the H4 medal system. They look awful and are way too freewheeling and bland.
  • I haven't noticed it mentioned anywhere so maybe you guys saw something I didn't, but is it know if you can get anniversary 2 as a separate game to its self, or do you HAVE TO have the MCC in order to get it? I already have anniversary 1, halo 3 and 4. so Im only really interested in ettign anniv 2. (and of course 5 when it comes out).
  • @14 as far as i know there isnt @7 scrub
  • @8 If you believe the Halo 2 ranking system rewards you for "skill", then you're an idiot. It does not. It is a system that only rewards "consecutive wins". It does not take any individual skill into account what-so-ever. The system is designed in such a way that when you first start the system, you will gain rank very quickly for every single win. Then, it tapers off and forces you to win upwards of 10 games in a row to gain one rank while just losing one game could drop you a rank. The system itself even explains "If you have a sudden change in your actual skill from where you were, you will have to win a lot of games consecutively in order to prove that to the system". http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/trueskill/faq.aspx Seriously, read that. Once you do, you'll realize it's the most bullshit and contrived system ever created in which your rank only means "The point at which the system determined you finally accumulated enough losses and won't let you rank up because of it". Seriously, there were new accounts in Halo 2 that got to level 50 in just over 100 games and then they would sell the account to people who wanted a 50. Obviously you never actually played Halo 2 to the extent I did. You're just riding the hype train. That, or you really liked the fact that the only way to break level 30 was to start glitching every match and everyone above level 40 were cheaters that would never get banned. Also, it wasn't "the first of its kind for online experience". It was actually pretty late to the party considering PC Gaming and their online play. I guess you mean "for consoles" in which cheating ran rampant and it never got fixed until Halo 3 because they'd designed their game in such a way that it couldn't detect if mods were even used? And yes, the cheaters were that bad. If they weren't glitching, they had mods. It got to where every single match I played, that's all I played against. They were the reason I quit playing Halo 2 to begin with. Halo 2 was obviously the most fun experience I ever had with Halo. 5000+ games played in it and no Halo game since getting anywhere near close to that. But, all the glitching and cheating drove me away from the game. I am just irritated that no, they're not fixing everything wrong with the game. I mean, why fix all the glitches that were never intended to begin with? Why fix the ranking system to reward individual skill instead of consecutive wins? Halo 2 is basically the CoD experience of the Halo franchise. Cheaters run rampant. Glitching is the only way to win. Oh, and there's only one gun in the game worth a crap and everyone will use it: The Battle Rifle. Halo 2 is the CoD experience of the Halo franchise. @9 Suits me just fine. You have fun with all your glitchers and cheaters that make your rank "legit" and "a measure of your actual skill". If 80% are going to be playing that mess, it just proves to me that 80% of gamers would rather feel awesome while cheating than feel awesome because a game was close and fair. --- Doesn't hurt me at all to drop out of Halo 2 games and leave my teams handicapped in their subpar Call of Duty game. After all, I can always just enjoy the campaigns without all the stupid children and dudebros.
  • @16 I think your mad cuz your not good at halo...thats what it is...dont worry cod comes out tonight.
  • @7 Shut the fuck up.
  • yeah and @1 and @6 shut the fuck up too, brownnose
  • @7 I hear you, there was at lot of cheating on Halo 2. The infamous Standby. I remember a glitching across the maps unable to move to see while one guy gets 50 kills in seconds. Yes 343 said they will not change a thing on halo 2 CE but stand-bying is a thing of the past, Bungie put a stop to all that, Halo 2 was great to play after some updates. And i highly doubt 343 would ship a game that's unplayable. Lets be a little smarter before we post rants.
  • @17 he just explained its not skill based. Nothing about his post showed hate "cause he's bad" Your point is invalid. Halo 3's ranking system was the best of the multiplayers. Skill ranks you up, not getting LUCKY and having a decent team that works together and can play. Halo 2 had a luck based rank system, halo 3 had skill. You're probably the type that thinks K/D is something that matters.
  • Start working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. =======>>>>> WWW.WALLETWIKI.COM
