French developer HESAW is hoping to prove the doubters wrong by bringing its Kinect-powered adaptation of the Eisner Award-nominated Blue Estate comic books to Xbox One. Blue Estate: The Game launches on Feb 18th.

“Designed from the ground up to integrate Kinect for Xbox One motion detection capability,” Blue Estate is an on-rails shooter that can also be played with a controller.

Players don the shiny shoes of Tony Luciano, “the homicidal maniac son of LA's crime boss Don Luciano”, and Clarence, “a broke ex-navy seal who has been hired to clean up Tony's mess.”

“As Tony launches a personal vendetta against the Sik Brother’s gang in an attempt to save his best dancer, Cherry Popz, Clarence wants to end the gang war, taking him to the farthest corners of Jamaica!” says the blurb.

Players will “enter a fight for his life against the most absurd and dangerous enemies, such as scar covered champions that fight-to-the-death, Tony's own hair and Chihuahuas that are too happy to see you.”

“Players are given a series of primary and secondary weapons to help make their way through the hilariously perilous missions which will come in handy defeating the bosses who'll try to end your game and your life,” the press release continues.

“But sometimes firepower isn't enough, so think before shooting and use cover to prepare your strategy, reload often, and try not to get turned into grated cheese.

We’ve chucked a teaser trailer below. Blue Estate is coming to Xbox One on Feb 18th. The game will cost $12.99, while Xbox Live Gold members can grab a 20% discount.

  • Interesting. Most likely I'll give it a shot.
  • I'm getting some Red Steel flashbacks. Except this time, I might laugh with the game instead of crying into my wallet. Giving this a go for sure!
  • Looks fun:) need a use for my kinect
  • "The Game Aims to Prove That Kinect’s Not Dead" ... "on-rails shooter" LOL.
  • "The Game Aims to Prove That Kinect’s Not Dead" ...by making a game that can also be played with a controller. Right. I love Kinect, I just wish they actually paid more attention to it.
  • Looks fun, pointing my finger at the screen and pretending it has recoil to fire... Wish they would just bring back the light gun. Die Hard on the PS was amazing!
  • Omg die hard :D haven't thought of that game in years. Each of the three movies had its own game type and each was brilliant (the game for the second film being an on rails shooter and probably the best game type). Id gladly buy a remastered version of that game.
  • @11, you replied to yourself, dumbass. No wonder you fear any kind of advancement. You are too stupid to understand it.
  • Looks good, maybe i'll buy it.
  • The problem with Kinect as a controller is it is limited (hence the 'on rails') whereas a physical controller has a greater range of controls. Until they create a peripheral which equals the amount of control a controller has, it'll never be the primary controller for anything but novelty /party/dance/speciality games. The glasses MS are looking at, if they integrate them into Xbox, will also be limited as a controller, but they have the added advantage as a peripheral that they could be used as an output device also. Kinect is good and I've seen it put to amazing use away from the Xbox but it just doesn't have the impact in gaming as it is right now. I'm still looking out for a game which could use the Kinect as part of a big AAA game (not just voice controls) in minority report puzzle/hacking mini games. Until I see something like that, Kinect just isn't worth the purchase for me.
  • Well good it compatible with a controller too in case using the kinect gets irritating lol
  • @14, hmm, the other guy may be a douche' with what he's saying (though I'm not a fan of the Kinect, though due to its limited potential, forced marketing ect.), but I will ring you out on something you said. How many games do you complete of the ones you buy? Most gamers don't complete every game they buy, if you play and find its not for you, you move on, or something else may just get your interest. It's generally a weak point to hang someone by, lol. On topic, eh, not sure if the PS4 version uses the 6 axis controls (i forget if thats the game) or not on this (I'm very sure it already has this), either way though, this probably should of been put forward as a motion control game only if it was meant to show the kinects not dead, as well as be an exclusive.
  • @17 his point wasn't about completion, it was of the irony that a person complaining heartily about kinect gets significantly more achievements in kinect games. Which implies he either plays them more or enjoys them more than standard controller games. Which is pretty funny imo OT: This seems like a pretty fun game, too bad I didn't buy a kinect with my xbox one :/
  • @18 or possibly easier/quicker to get?
  • @9 gotta love a good laugh, and your comment gave me just that. The controller isn't the way forward, the controller is here and now, and has been around for years. But still, thanks for making me smile with your dumb comment
  • Cool, supporting this one for sure. I'm all for devs giving us kinect support.
  • Played this on PS4. Not only is it a terrible shooter, (on-rails or not) it's also painfully unfunny. I doubt bolting on Kinect controls will make much of a difference.
  • bring back the light gun games!!!!
  • Kinect is another method to play games and is not meant to replace the controller. As a gamer I approve of anything that is fun, and I've had plenty fun with some kinect games. Just like guitars all peripherals aren't for everyone. I am always surprised on some comments in relation to kinect. Anyway hope it is fun!
  • Kinect is already dead to me anyway. Lmfao. This game wouldn't sold very well anyway. There plenty epic XB1 games coming this year without shitty Kinect. ;)
  • @14 - You did QA testing right?
  • I don't know who +1 me but I was actually being serious. I know that he did. He feels the need to post on *every* *single* kinect article that he 'worked at RARE'. The fact he did testing has fallen by the way side recently and now it seems as the vibe being given off is he has become more and more involved with the games... 2 games, Kinect Sports 1 & 2. I think he is possibly trying with the '3rd' as the KS DLC. It's 2 games. Which yes I've played, I really like the Kinect. I'm not denigrating the need for QA. I've been involved in software development for 20 years and testing is a huge part of a successful release. Recent times has shown QA really has fallen by the wayside. I mean sure be proud of what you've done, but I'm in a shitty mood right now and it finally annoyed me enough to say FFS, every article?!
  • So long as they make crap games with Kinect it will never take off will we ever have something like Call of Duty or Halo with Kinect voice commands for armour abilities tell your AI to turn on said abilitie or for simply shooting a gun.
  • Kinect will never be a proper replacement for a pad for one simple reason. How can you turn around or look about whilst still facing the screen and do whatever it is you need to be doing to shoot, interact etc.? You can't, as soon as you turn you are not facing the screen. This totally removes the immersion and probably ends up with you dead (in game of course). If the whole VR thing takes off then it may work, until then Kinect will be a niche experience with very few games that are worth playing. The gamne in question on this article has been panned heavily, and will fare no better on Xbox.
  • I will be giving this game a chance - hopefully it's fun if nothing else!
