Telltale Games' New IP To Be Dev's "Most Ambitious" Yet

OK, so this is kinda slow news day news, but Telltale Games' new IP - one of the studio's first non-licensed games in some time - is aiming to be its "most ambitious" yet. That's according to new CEO Kevin Bruner, talking about the new IP, which he says rose "organically" at the studio.

“I’ll say we’ve spent a lot of time experimenting over the last decade with how powerful a storytelling tool interactive can be and when we thought about building something from the ground up that gave us absolutely everything we could dream of as storytelling tools,” Bruner told GamesIndustry.biz. “The right kind of story, the right kind of setting, the right kind of people involved, everything.”

Bruner adds that the dev "really approach it from the interactivity and gaming as a new medium for storytelling, so we always put the storytelling first and then when we think about interactivity as a tool for storytelling that's where it's kind of nascent, we feel like we're the tip of the spear for that. It's really exciting, and particularly when we're working with some of the best storytellers in the world."

He goes on to say that Telltale is ready for something new after years of licensed games like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones and Tales From the Borderlands.

“It’s probably the most ambitious thing the company has ever done but we feel like we’re ready for it. We’re very excited to talk about it, but we can’t say much more right now. But it is the perfect thing for us.”

As soon as more details on Telltale Games' new IP arise, we'll let you know. Obviously.

[Thanks, Leland]

  • 5 choices for each question now
  • *We'll remember this*
  • ^lol Can you finish what you are working on first instead of making a new ip?
  • Telltale Tales: An epic journey where you take the role of a Telltale developer and make story-changing decisions that will effect the very fate of your company.
  • i dont want to sound like a dick but havent they got enough projects as it is right now, GOT and TOTB have only 2 and 1 episodes respectively, walking dead season 3 to come, hopefully wolf among us season 2 an then minecraft aswell, just seems too much for a company where nerly every episode has some sort of problem i like the games but i think they need to slowdown before they have TOO much to do in such short times
  • I'm down for any Telltale game. I'll be keeping a close watch on this to see what they have up their sleeves.
  • Surely they should be making sure their current products work correctly rather boasting about another ip which will be the same story driven, very little gameplay actually involved game.
  • They have a fair bit on the go already. Walking Dead Season 3, Wolf Among Us Season 2, Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands, and Minecraft. Story Edition. Either they have a lot of people working for them, or they never leave the office. I don't mind, as I love WD and WAU. Just finished both episodes of Game of Thrones and really getting into it. More than I thought I would. Borderlands episode one will be started this week. See how that pans out, as I'm not a Borderlands fan.
  • They should make BREAKING BAD :)
  • they're "ready for something new" How about you damn well focus on bringing us updates on when we'll get content we've already paid for that was supposed to be released half a bloody month ago!
  • New engine please and real consequences for decisions replacing the illusion of choice. That said, tell tale games are great. Love the stories they produce.
  • Can anyone say "Lord of the Rings"? Calling it.
  • @14 it says they're not making a licensed game, so most likely it'll be something original.
  • No one does storytelling better! Question is whether or not we will burn out of their games before its even released... they have so many projects now that you do feel that they will end up another Activision or Travellers Tales where people have just about had their fill of another great game but familiar experience (does anyone get excited for Lego games these days?). Will see just how ambitious this game really is but i do love their work and kinda if honest would prefer they just continue to expand what they have already... Wolf Among Us Season 2 would be a good start, will see how Borderlands plays out before i covet a season 2 for that series as well.
  • I feel like I'm in a dark, empty room covered in cobwebs, sat on a large stool, wearing a party hat, and waving a tiny flag reading "Sam & Max Season 3". Anyone care to join me? No? Okay, I'll just stay here then.
  • I would really like to see a Mortal Kombat Telltale game. MK has an amazing story, I could only imagine how awesome that could be.
  • Anyone think if Microsoft signed talltale to them just for one IP while still being able to go about there normal stuff but a talltales halo I think a halo theme game would be good about reach.
  • I like the ones I've played but they are in danger of over saturating a market they've pretty much got to themselves.
  • I would like to see Star Wars for there next game. I would pay to play that. Also when is the second Borderlands episode coming out? The first one was great.
  • I'd say finish what is out currently before announcing another game... No idea what it could be....
  • @21 it was supposed to be the 27th of january but they've not given any updates since last December
  • Make the decisions actually matter and they will have my attention.
  • Just change the engine
  • @#16 - Yes. LEGO games rock, bring 'em on.
  • They will translate it to other languages? That would be SO innovative and ambitious.
  • After reading the comments for this story, I can't help but feel that a great number of people don't understand what a new IP is.
  • I'd like to see them bring to life one of Alan Moore's comics such as Watchmen or Batman: The Killing Joke those are great stories. :)
  • I rest my case.
  • Just don't get ambition and ability mixed up Telltale
  • Telltale Games presents: Lego Telltale: the story Lego game: the movie: the game.
  • @31 - homophobic hate speech on a video game forum? How refreshing.
  • I would've loved if they had done a season of X-Files.
  • So no matter what they bring out it will always lead to the same conclusion in game.
  • Didn't think Telltale were capable of an original thought
  • That's all well and good but I'd rather they concentrate on fixing the major choices issue on GoT Ep 2 first!
  • Give me Season 3 of The Walking Dead and Season 2 of The Wolf Among Us and i'm happy. As far as a new IP goes it would be interesting what story they can conjure up from scratch.
  • Get the game of thrones save bug patched first, then I'll care about new stuff!
