Yesterday at the Game Developers Conference 2015 in San Francisco, Microsoft and Motiga announced that Gigantic, a MOBA RPG shooter hybrid, is coming to Xbox One with Windows 10 cross-play support.

Gigantic is a team-based, five-on-five competitive action game with strategic elements, in which "heroes battle alongside a massive guardian in a fight for supremacy." It's developed by Motiga, a studio formed of talent including StarCraft and Guild Wars lead designer James Phinney.

"Gigantic on the Xbox One is a great experience," says Motiga's David Reid. "We’d always believed Gigantic could be a successful console title from the game’s earliest days, and many testers told us they saw the potential, too. We didn’t want to dumb down the experience or come out with a second-class port, though. This partnership with Microsoft lets us make an Xbox One version that’s first class all the way."

Gigantic will be free-to-play for all Xbox Live Gold members. There's no release date just yet. You can watch the Xbox One and Windows 10 announcement trailer below and there's some Gigantic gameplay footage running on PC below that. What do we think of this one then?

  • Never heard of this before now but I'm exited. Love the graphics and character design, if the gameplay is good enough then I don't even care if it's free to play.
  • Looks fun. I like that it's F2P only because MOBA's typically work well with the F2P model.
  • Never usually one for pure PvP games but this looks pretty good. Sounds like it was made for Mr Webb when the dev referenced the Rage at the start of the alpha gameplay vid!
  • lol for a second there I thought this was a Reus sequel cause of the picture
  • So Microsoft are allowing cross play now, that's nice of them, guess there is a glimmer of hope that I can one day play hearthstone on my Xbox, though it would have to support android and apple cross play which Microsoft probably won't like.
  • Looks really cool, hope we see more moba games go the way of Smite. its just unfortunate if its limited to windows 10. @5 They were "allowing" cross play 8 years ago...
  • First thought I had after seeing the thumbnail of the video was "please don't be a moba, please don't be a moba", read the first 2 lines, "f**k". I don't know whats this decades obsession with moba games, they are all so damn generic, it almost hurts. I really liked art style though, but I have to pass.
  • @7 They are still fairly new and are very popular. It's actually very obvious and makes a lot of sense why we are seeing a lot of them. Personally, I'm happy we're finally getting some of them on consoles.
