April Fools' Day 2015: Dance With Hitler, Swim With Joel & Date Someone From Dance Central

The dust is settling on April Fools' Day and around the world video game developers and publishers are high-fiving themselves with joy, following their attempts to con us with ridiculously fake press releases. Here’s some of the best and a whole load of the worst Xbox and PlayStation-related gags. Get a needle and thread out, 'cos your sides are gonna split.

Zombie Army Thrillogy

Top of the list of April-Fools'-Jokes-I’d-Actually-Play is Zombie Army Thrillogy, the dancing game sequel to Rebellion’s clunky but fun Zombie Army Trilogy, in which you have to beat demon zombie Hitler in a dance-off. Of course. I’m well up for this one.

D5: Dark Dreams Don’t Die With Deadly Premonition

If Swery’s D4 had sexy times with the equally bonkers Deadly Premonition, this would be the result. D5: Dark Dreams Don’t Die With Deadly Premonition doesn’t exist, but we kind of wish it did. Here’s a screenshot of what it’d look like.

Tekken X Lord of Vermilion

Tekken X Lord of Vermillion is - as the name suggests - an entirely fictitious mash-up of everyone’s third-favourite fighting franchise and the arcade-based fantasy collectible card game, Lord of Vermillion. There will be 765 playable characters. At this point we’re begining to think Tekken X Street Fighter is an April Fools' too.

PlayStation Flow

Ever fancied acting out the underwater sequences in video games by actually going for a dip? Nah, me neither. But that hasn’t stopped Sony diving in at the deep end with this made up peripheral. The presenter in this video is super enthusiastic.

Champ Dumps Street Fighter to become an accountant

Daigo “The Beast” Umehara is responsible for the most famous Street Fighter comeback in the history of ever. Video game “journalists” are bound by a strict law to mention that every time they write about him. But for April Fools' Day Daigo’s transfering his skills to a different arena: accountancy.

World of Tanks: On the Moon

Wargaming is legit taking World of Tanks to the moon (I think) between April 3rd anf April 5th, adding a "lunar version of the M-24 Chaffee" and a Moon River map featuring gravity that’s 1/6th of that on Earth. Now that’s some hardcore April Fools' dedication.

Agri Brids

This one’s actually half believable, considering how much of a cash cow Angry Birds has become for creators Rovio Entertainment. In Agri Birds: "Resource management meets visual novel meets point-and-click survival horror meets your face in the latest Angry Birds title from Rovio Entertainment." I’d play it.

DriveClub MotorStorm Buggy

This one’s actually real too, though I’m not entirely sure if it counts as a genuine April Fools' joke. Head on over to the PlayStation Store and you can download the Wombat Typhoon from MotorStorm and race it around in PS4’s false-starting DriveClub. It’s not funny, it’s not a trick, but somehow it made it onto the list.

Romance Cental

Everyone with reproductive organs has lusted after the cast of Dance Central, haven't they? Go on, you can admit it. It's fine. Well now you can act out that slightly disturbing fantasy in a new April Fools' browser game by Harmonix. Click through here to play.

Dying Light Super Powers

Here’s another real one, that probably doesn’t count as an April Fools'. Techland has released an update for Dying Light which gives the parkour expert protagonist of the game super powers. Punch or kick a zombie and it’ll go flying, for today only. Watch it in action below if you can’t be arsed to actually play.

Housemarque's VR headset

Keen to get in on all "that sweet virtual reality money", Housemarque - creators of Super Stardust and Resogun - have(n’t) made their own headset. Warning: may cause red eyes, palpitations, baldness, and “some loss of life”. Sounds ace.

War Thunder - Walking Tanks

I… think this one’s an April Fools' joke? Metal Gear Solid-esque walking tank mech things are being added to War Thunder. Except they’re not. Or maybe they are… I’m really not sure. Judge for yourself below.

  • Some poor attempts this year with only one or two exceptions but none were believable.
  • Love the x360 hard drive on the VR headset and Dreamcast controller.
  • None as good as the Train Racing from Grid 3 last year. And Tekken third favourite franchise? Always been my favourite, but I thought MK, DoA ans (inexplicably) Street Fighter were all more popular
  • Playstation Flow already exists... It's "that time of the month" when PS fanboys get irritable because the Xbox One has way better games...
  • Guardians are dancing on Bungie's site today :)
  • The PlayStation flow seems to take itself so serious like if it was a real product
  • That first one just reminds me that, FOR SOME REASON, "Thriller" isn't in any Dance Central or Just Dance titles. >.
  • The only one that I found funny is the MotorStorm "buggy" in the "buggy" Drive Club. The best ever gaming related one still is the Halo Bollywood movie.
  • I heard a rumor ubisoft were going to release a game that worked day 1. Naturally i wasnt going to believe such an obvious april fools as that! On a serious note i would have rather seen rebelion fix the broken gold bar than take the time to make that dancing hitler video.
  • playstation flow was the funniest this year I reckon :D
