Demons Age is a new turn-based RPG heading to Xbox One, PS4 and PC next year, developer Bigmoon Entertainment has announced. It's a title that "brings together the characteristics of a classic turn-based roleplaying game with modern graphics and a gripping atmosphere," according to the press release.

An adventure that supports either single character or party play, you'll explore "ancient ruins, mystical places and mysterious dungeons" and battle dangerous opponents during your quest to rid Moragon of invading demons and corrupted soldiers of the 'Order', supported by orcs and other monsters.

What ensues is a bloody war between elves, dwarves, halflings, men and demons across the Peninsula of Moragon, with your journey beginning when you're washed ashore along the coast and thrown straight into Demons Age's yarn filled with "tragedy and betrayal".

Demons Age will be heading to Xbox One, PS4 and PC in Q1 2016. Check out the first trailer and some images below.

  • Looks good I use to enjoy these style games back on ps1
  • Nice, Brings back the days of Diablo 2.
  • I'm still surprised to see turn-based RPGs made for consoles. Handhelds and PCs, sure, but the action RPG genre is so much better and more immersive. Who wants behind-the-scenes die rolls to determine whether you win a fight?
  • Oh wow...count me in!
  • Need a new XCom turn based game!!
  • @3 Me! I always prefer turn based. Ever since I first played shining force for the Sega back when I was a kid.
  • About time a turnbase rpg comes out for x1. I wish they make more turnbase rpg games for it. Look at Lost Odyssey, very underrated game and wish they come out with another one.
  • This brings be back to Legend of Dragoon, I will probably give this game a try. :]
  • So is this kinda/sorta a strategy RPG? The floor tiles in the 2nd to last screenshot make me think so. Like Shining Force/FF Tactics but with the look of Diablo. Either way I'm such an RPG slappy I will buy it regardless. Need more games like this!
  • That moment when you click on this article because you took one quick look and thought it said Dragon Age...
  • So is it chance encounters or can you see the mob and either engage or like go around?
  • @7 I'd take a re-release of that game as is.I'd pre order it the moment it was made available. That game was something special.Too bad we wont see another.
  • One thing I was saddened to see was the decline of turn-based RPGs during the previous console generation. I made sure to pick up Lost Odyssey late in the console life cycle when I went hunting for more turn-based RPGs on the 360, since South Park: TSoT just wasn't enough to quench my thirst. Grabbed a few turn-based puzzle games over XBLA too, like Puzzle Quest 2 and Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes. A lot of turn-based RPGs nowadays still rush you to get things done, like Child of Light (which does have a neat counter system thanks to its ATB system), but some times I just want to sit back and think about how to play things out. I'll keep myself informed on this game and go for it on the PC next year. Looks very much like the old Baldur's Gate PC games.
  • @13: You know why there are so few turn-based games made? Because no one buys them. FPS and open world action games sell like hotcakes. This genre is dying on consoles as evidenced by low sales.
  • @14: Sadly you are correct, but it's not because the games aren't good, it's because kids are progressively more lazy and ADHD these days, as well as the technological advances of rendering battles in real-time, where years ago letting the system run pre-rendered commands over and over made more sense. I grew up on turn-based RPGs and they will always be my favorite genre. I am thankful for the ID@Xbox program letting smaller studios develop the games they want to make that more niche gamers have been missing out on. I feel like I will have a lot more games to play this generation.
  • I just can't get into turn-based gameplay. I always get bored. Well, almost always, I enjoyed the Xcom demo, but that's the only instance I can think of. Guess it's just not my thing. Which is a shame, because I'm a real sucker for medieval fantasy games like this.
  • Day 1 for me
  • @14&15 People need a chance to buy them. If there aren't any you can't buy them. Its kinda like when big publishers decided horror doesn't sell and stopped making Horrorgames. But there still was a demand as evidenced by Amnesia and others. They just have to budget reasonable and can still turn a profit. Sure these wont sell CoD or GTA numbers of units but they also don't have to spend 50 Million $ developing it.
  • hey this actually looks great ! im really looking forward to this ! im also looking forward for divinity original sin ! just mentioned because it looks somewhat similiar - old school baldurs gate style games really have a renesaince ! and i´m glad they come to xbox since my pc is not up to snuff :) they really should remake baldurs gate 1 and baldurs gate 2 shadow of amn including all add the ons for both titles for xbox one ! i didnt buy the pc remake of mentioned games because i dont like how they done them but i definatly would play them on the xbox - achievments and all, fuck this would be great ... to bad its never going to happen :( ps. was going a little bit off topic here :)
  • I'm with #18 here - it is entirely possible to have a good selling turn based RPG... Final Fantasy being the obvious example. And if they are not going to be making 'new' games, surely some of the studios could cash in by releasing the originals again, remastered or not. How many people would Indra-buy digital copies Suidoken or Suidoken 2 if they had the chance?! I know I would. Turn-based RPGs are my favourite genre, and its people like #3 that give them a bad name.
  • I don't give them a bad name. They give themselves a bad name. You think I can influence the sales of an entire genre?
  • One of my favorite games ever is a turn based RPG from the PS1 days called Legends of Dragoon, really wish they would remake it for all consoles and just update the graphics. I loved the story and the characters, you can definitely still have a great story and great characters in a turn based RPG.
