EA and DICE have offered a first look at the upcoming The Battle of Jakku DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront, ahead of its release for pre-order folk next week. "As debris from battles above shower the desert ground, the feeling of chaos is intensifying. A Star Destroyer has just crash-landed and some of its engines are still smoking. The battle has just begun…"
The Battle of Jakku introduces the new Turning Point mode, another one that accommodates up to 40 players in large-scale battles, as the New Republic tackles key Imperial holdouts on the remote desert planet, in events set 29 years prior to The Force Awakens, following the Rebel victory in the battle of Endor.
“At the edge of the map, the Empire has constructed a make-shift base as well as smaller fortifications strewn across the landscape," says Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall. "Following an emergency landing, the Rebels need to locate the enemy bases to attack and take control of them all.”
In Turning Point, Rebels will have to locate and capture three control points under Imperial control, against the clock, with extra time added when the Rebel team succesfully takes a control point. You'll need to move through the control points, until you reach the Empire base for the final stand.
AT-STs and Airspeeders will feature in Turning Point, with numerous tactical possibilities for players to consider. Meanwhile, The Battle of Jakku will also be a "great visual spectacle," according to Brännvall. "The battles are ever-present; debris will be falling from the skies, and you’ll even see a Super Star Destroyer come crashing down during the round."
The Battle of Jakku will be coming to Star Wars: Battlefront on 1st December for anyone who pre-ordered the game, and will be free on 8th December for everyone else on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
