Left 4 Dead Gets a Versus Update

Good news for all you Left 4 Dead versus fans, we just got word from valve that today they rolled out an update that should fix a whole heap of issues. Interested in what was changed? Read on my friends, read on:
Fixed Survivors being able to climb surfaces marked for versus infected only 
Fixed a class of SurvivorBot bugs dealing with rescuing downed players 
Players can no longer grab ladders while flying through the air after a Tank punch 
Shooting near a car with an alarm that has already fired the alarm will no longer make chirping noises 
Fixed mini-gun physics exploit 
Fixed propane tanks (and other physics objects) causing players to fall through elevators 
Fixed rare achievement bug issues 
Fixed several map exploits 
Versus Changes
Added HUD elements to show status of other infected players 
Fixed instance where a Survivor changing to the infected team would be attacked by infected bots 
Normalized special infected melee damage 
Fixed exploit where infected players could run away and teleport back to gain health 
Players can only change teams once per map 
Players can't change teams while other players are still loading 
Tank spawns at the same % through the map for both teams in versus mode 
Made the Tank and Witch spawn directly on the escape route 
Increased chance of getting the Tank or Witch 
Fixed team swap issue 
Easier to pounce a Survivor who is meleeing 
Increased Minimum damage a Hunter pounce does 
Fixed Smoker tongue tolerance 
Smoker now has to be killed or the tongue destroyed for the tongue to break 
Survivors cannot bash someone off the tongue until the Survivor being pulled is paralyzed or hanging 
Tongue attacks that fail to paralyze or hang a Survivor will use the shorter ability delay timer 
Fixed cases where the ability timer was not using the correct time 
Fixed case where you could point at a Survivor but not register a tongue hit 
Fixed Smoker tongue not targeting and landing properly through PZ ghosts 
Smoker tongue does damage every second while dragging paralyzed Survivors 
Bashable objects now appear with a red glow 
Tanks hitting a car with an alarm disables the alarm permanently 
Tank frustration timer is only reset by hitting Survivors with rocks or fists 
Reduced autoshotgun damage against Tanks 
Witch spawns at the same % through the map for both teams 
Avoids spawning within a certain % of the tank 
Fixed an exploit where the Witch could be woken up and tricked into attacking Survivors

you could always play as the witch it just spawned a really really small percentage of the time. they're making it more likely that you'll play as the witch.

There is no way to play as the witch. There are just witches on the maps which are controlled by AI. Anything mentioned about the witches is strictly about the AI.
Example: When it says the witch will spawn more often, it is referring to the fact that the witch will be on the map at some point with a higher chance of occurrence. It doesn't mean someone will spawn as the witch.

yea hopefully the fix to "several map exploits" includes the infected moving dumpsters to block the path on multiple maps. otherwise it doesn't really make me want to play versus any more than normal. sorry, but when there's a game breaking exploit a la moving above the map in TF2 or moving outside/under the map in COD4/5, it really makes me want to shelve it until it gets fixed.

Sounds great. I'll be on later tonight to give it a go. Sounds like Versus will be a more even event now. As long as these fixes aren't overpowered Valve has fixed some really frustrating problems. Valve rocks. Can't wait for the new maps to drop. And Team Fortress 2 update.

Although I only glitched one achievement - it kinda sucks that people have glitched to get the achievements before the update and now the people who are still yet to obtain them are now having to work harder to get them - kinda makes it a unfair advantage for those who got them early really.

I guess if you wanted to you could rollback the updates to before the patches but then it would disabled LIVE play meaning you'd have to do it on your own or with one other local player - and with the AI being a dumb as shit sometimes then certain achievements will be even more solid to get.

BUT saying all this - not cheating is how they were supposed to be obtained in the first place... it just kinda sucks now that we don't even have the option to cheat like the others did.

No! I still need to get Nothing Special, and that Turret exploit was the one way to do so and keep my sanity.
This is a little ridiculous as 95% of achievement whores already have it, so the people who don't have it (like me) actually have to work for it now ... i don't see what their logic behind that one was...

I kinda wish they didn't fix the throwing pipe bombs at elevators glitch and the mini gun exploit. Those were so fun to mess around with! And throwing stuff at the people in elevators was so funny to do! But, I knew it was inevitable. At least I can do these things if I clear my cache.

DLC will come out Mid March, know people who work at Valve and they can confirm this, so it's a good thing they fixed this. This patch motivated me to play L4D again and the DLc will be even better.

I can vouch that the turret glitch has NOT been fixed. I was playing around on one earlier, after the patch and was still able to get on top of the plane. Dashboard glitch has been fixed though, finally.

at #68 some people used to make one person play the game and the other players stayed in the dashboard (not sure how it works exactly) anyway they got like the hardest achievements in the game like untouchables and the expert one for basically doing nothing. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Nice, the Infected HUD is much better and more helpful to know how your team mates are doing. Just wish they'ed fixed that exploit where the infected can move the generator in front of the elevator doors... that sux.

I've only done one of the campaigns, Blood Harvest, on expert but it wasn't too hard. Had a good team of strangers though.
@73, how is melleeing down doors an exploit? The infected in the campaign can melee through doors/some walls so why shouldn't player controlled infected be able to?

#64, I don't know if you have a very precise method but when I was playing about with it the turret no longer provides any bounce. Might as well be a block you jump on top of.

I havnt played it yet but these seems to be some relatively nice and noticeable achievements especially the smoker. good job valve.

have they fixed the infected players ability to move in game object to block survivors route yet, because that shit pisses me off, and if you are one of those people that use this in versus, ur a pussy, use your true skills to win, your cheating the game, for you, your team, and your opponents, its the pussy way to win, duke it out, dont just make the game impossible to finish by some glitch... fucking pussies... sorry, ive just had too many good games ruined by people doing this

Seahn, it's a moveable object, not a glitch. I think the survivors might be able to push it back by melee, I'm not sure. It wasn't fixed
Also, I've noticed that the car alarm ddn't disable when I hit it as a tank in that street in No Mercy, it downed 3 survivors straight off and also set off the alarm. They got completely murderlized. They were eaten alive. Then they were eaten dead. Then, they were eaten some more! :0
