XBA Community Corner Round-Up - April

XBA Staff

Good afternoon, one and all, welcome to this very special - and brand-spanking new - lil’ monthly feature on XBA, the aptly named 'XBA Community Corner Round-Up,' where - yes, you guessed it - we round up all the highlights and goings-on from our wonderful community and give you an insight into what's going on on our message boards.

Whether you’re an avid completionist and want to test yourself against the challenges in the Maximum Clubs, interested in writing a guide for a game you loved or just want to take to the boards for a chat amongst like-minded gamers, there’s lots of areas to get involved in on the XBA forums and with our community. If social gaming is your thing, why not take some time out and enjoy a few games with friends and fellow members in our weekly community gaming events or even get competitive in our tournaments. Whatever your poison, there’s always something going on, and this here feature will be the place to go for seeing what is coming up in the forthcoming weeks from a community standpoint.

As this is our debut community round-up, let us take a moment to introduce certain elements of the community, those that will crop up, time and time again, during these monthly “what’s on” style posts.

Events Team Round-Up

Xbox Achievements prides itself on being community-oriented and the community gaming program has been one that has been around in various forms over the last 10 years . “How does it work?” you ask. Well, quite simply, each month we choose a selection of relevant games, whether that be new releases, new backwards compatibility titles, new Games With Gold titles or whatever, and we get the community together and play the heck out of them with one another. Whether we’re talking shooters, racing or sandbox titles, our rotating cast of community representatives stand toe-to-toe with our community for some gaming shenanigans.

The Division (Game of the Month)

Saints Row IV (April 18-24) (Games with Gold!)

Sunset Overdrive (April 25-May 1) (Games with Gold!)

If you’re interested in playing any of these games, just pop into their respective threads above and sign-up - just make sure your gamertag is linked to your post or your profile as it makes it easier for us to arrange such events, of course. That’s not all, there’s also forum awards for participating in the community gaming events (and tournaments) too, which are essentially like achievements for your profile!

Whether you are interested in achievement hunting or just want to have some fun, check out the Community Gaming forum for your fill! Fear not though, every month we’ll bring you news of the latest community gaming sessions, and if that’s not enough, you can get involved with Community Thursdays over on our Twitch channel with Dan, Lee and Rich from 5-8pm, GMT.

Guide Team Round-Up

The achievement guides on XBA have been such an incredible asset to the site and its community for such a long-time, and that’s down to the fact that it’s gamers like yourselves - and us - that write them. Ever see a guide for a game though and thought "I could write a better guide than that!" or “Hey, that person helped me with so and so game, I should help others and create a guide for this game I love!” Well, how about putting that into practice. We welcome all guide writers here at XBA, whether you are a seasoned veteran or just starting out, we’re all in the business of helping one another.

Our friendly team and experienced regular writers are here to give as much support as you want, plus you get loads of snazzy forums awards and recognition for your work; as well as being able to say you have an achievement guide published on XboxAchievements.com, the oldest and the biggest Xbox site on the internet. Want to get involved, check out our handy tips in our forums here.

Plus, you can become a member of the fabled Guide Writers’ Guild, a collection of like-minded people who enjoy helping members of the Xbox community by guiding them to every achievement under the sun… well, or at least attempting to! Every month we’ll be bringing you links to the hottest guides here and bringing you the latest news from the world of guide writing.

Maximum Clubs Round-Up

Last but by no means least, we have the Maximum Clubs. So far we’ve played the games, written the guides, got the achievements, and now, it’s time to bask in your own successes and see your names in light in the fabled Maximum Clubs.

What are the Maximum Clubs and how do you get involved? Simple! The Maximum Clubs are, of course, centered around those lovely achievements. Complete games, finish challenges, sign uo and then soak up the adoration of the achievement chasing community… well, maybe not for Avatar though, eh? What we’ll talk about today though is the community challenges…

Whether you’ve finished a game and want the world to know, or you want to attempt our challenges, our Maximum Clubs board is the place for you, and in these here monthly posts, we’ll be bringing you the latest challenges, while also shining our light on those intrepid and impressive enough to not only tackle them, but conquer them!

If you want to get involved now, the latest of our challenge clubs to go live is 'The Best of 2015' challenge club, incorporating some of the best games from that year, as well as a new tier 4 challenge (i.e. hard as nails) for our racing games club, 'Off to the Races'.

Besides these latest clubs, we have a plethora of other challenge/franchise clubs available for you to attempt, as well as various other site award orientated clubs to get stuck in to. These include staff clubs (clubs made by the staff members of the XBA); subscriber clubs, which are made by the community’s subscribers; and a game-specific club for every game made for the Xbox platform, amongst other things. There will be something there for everyone of every taste in gaming, so go check it out now.

_______________

That about nails everything we wanted to cover in this debut post, do come and play some games with us, get involved on the forums and just generally have fun. Keep an eye out for these monthly features from here on out, where we’ll also be bringing you the latest community news on XBA, plus updates on what’s new on the site.

  • What is the basis of your claim that you are the biggest Xbox site on the internet? Obviously not the most up to date as we still can't edit comments or quote them either.
  • @1: Why would you even want that level of detail in the comments section? Article comments are toxic and generally worthless.
  • #1 I maybe agreed for edit comments that need to add in comment section system here site. But I am ok with to and getting to used to it and they allow you all post twice in case you think your comment is error or need to be edit etc... #1 Again here site is fucking awesome and way better than troll-IGN, multiple-page gamespot and other gaming sites. You have what you want here while other is mostly limits when through forums in each gaming sites. Lol
  • #1 What a dilbert!
  • All staffs here is wonderful and friendly. Lots of things I love about here website since you get what you like, tips share with other gamers, achievements guide, update news etc... :) :) Love here. Unavoidable site. ;))
  • I've been using this site for 10 years. Seen many changes to the site in that time. For me it's the simplicity of the site I like. The main page isn't overly cluttered, there always up to date with the news and as #6 said you can't fault the staff. Call it favouritism but when it comes to the best/biggest xbox site, it is. Just my thoughts on your comment #1
  • Is this the best Xbox site out there? Maybe not. Is this the one i like the most? Damn right it is. Im not even that active as a user but this site feels so.. personal... and warm... cant quite explain, just keep up the gud work :)
  • @2: I didn't say anything about them creating it- all I'm saying is that it could use an update to include those common features. @3: They could edit the article if that's what you mean. I just asked a simple question, people can claim anything, I just wanted to know on what grounds XA was making their claim. Is it a valid claim? @4: Have you heard about Trueachievements.com? 330k registered users, 53k active in last 30 days. How does that compare to XA? @7: You are free to think that this is the best/biggest Xbox site because it is subjective based on a user point of view and your definition of such. It's a completely different thing when the website itself makes the claim with no evidence to support it.
  • I'm with you #9. The amount of butthurt is pretty crazy. I don't mind not being able to quote or edit as much, largely because you can comment again if you mess up grammar. I like both xba and TA but there's no denying TA has a massive lead in members. Honestly if someone downvoted your comment because they think this is the biggest xb news site then they're a fool for not checking elsewhere and assuming it is. Of course that's probably not the reason everybody did, some of them would have been annoyed at you bringing up not being able to edit, etc.
  • So looking forward to the Sunset Overdrive CG week. Been forever since I played that and the CG events for it last year were insane fun.
  • I think this is a fantastic step forward in the evolution of the site. Seeing this on the front page is something I've been hoping to see for years now and it's a huge positive I believe. I hope to see more members join in on community gaming and participating in forum discussions. Really though, there is something for everybody on XBA and now you can see that each month in a quick round up on the front page. Great work, guys!
  • The last year or so has shown an incredible amount of effort from the staff and we're all better for it. Thanks, dudes. You all deserve hugs.
  • @9: The issue people took I would assume is that we made this article to bring attention to what we're doing on the forums, and your comments have nothing to do with that. I know when I opened this article and the first post was a negative one I was pretty disappointed.
  • @14 Thanks for working on Sunday to bring us this article, I guess its your love of gaming that ensures your commitment to this and not the responses about "who is best/bigger/stronger". I think @3 is right though and as usual the irony is lost on some people
  • @14: While my comments did not have anything to do with the general idea of what the article was about, I was fair in asking/ saying them in direct response to a section of the article. Is that not what comments are for? I'm sorry if it's not the praise that is expected every time.
  • #1 if you dont like the site just leave and dont come back :)
  • @10: If you want to know, I for one downvoted because of the irrelevant jab about not being able to edit or quote comments, as if pointing that out had anything to do with whether or not this is the biggest Xbox site. It made the entire comment come off as extremely petty, like the poster is just here to constantly take jabs rather than actually offer constructive criticism. Anyway, enough about that. Thanks for the article! I didn't know there were plans to play Sunset Overdrive and probably wouldn't have if not for this article. I'll have to look into that as that was by far my favorite game of 2014.
  • @1, 9, 16 Although I get what you're saying... how often do you see someone talking about their own web site and "bragging" about NOT being number one, anymore than a parent saying their baby isn't as cute as someone else's?! I totally expect the staff and the loyal users to sing the praises about this web site. Besides... XBA doesn't inflate the worth of achievements just to make people feel better about achievements that were harder to unlock than others. If you did it, great... if you couldn't, well... no one's going to mock you for not being able to! This "Xbox" site isn't perfect, neither is TA. For that matter, neither is xbox.com! They all do the best they can (just don't critize anyone... they'll box your ears, figuratively)!!
  • Well I don't know if this is the best xbox site out there (as I only use 3 myself this, TA, and xbox.com) it is certainly top notch. I have completed so many achievement lists using information from this site, learned about games I didn't know about from this site, and done research on great games I had written off and then changed my mind about using information from this site. Great site I check it at least once a day as the news on this site is better than any other I know of. Although if it seems like all I am doing is ass kissing it is not the case, whilst I love this site it does have some pretty staggering problems mainly: Not all but a certain number of the community here have a severely negative attitude with this down-voting system I once got a handful of downvotes just for stating I was excited for Halo 4 a few months before it came out. Okay sure maybe people like #1 in this article deserve to be downvoted but for being excited for a new game come on!!! Secondly this site is a little hit and miss on what games it reviews. I would like to say this site has reviews for every xbox game in existence but it sadly is not so. Okay yeah maybe this is just me nitpicking but they seem to review like 99% of games and then from some certain years certain games where just ignored. Example Transformers War for Cybertron a pretty major game to go unreviewed but hey this like the others was probably just human error. Lastly like some other sites namely IGN there is a certain amount of favoritism in the reviewing itself. I swear every Battlefield, Call of Duty, Halo, or Gears of War regardless of actual quality gets like between 80-99 review score and some other games namely Assassin's Creed as well as other under appreciated games seem to score mediocre review scores. Black Flag only scored a 75 and COD Ghosts an 80? Medal of Honor Warfighter a 55 and COD Black Ops 3 a 81? Resident Evil 6 a 77 and Gears of War Judgment an 89? Maybe my examples are not the best but I am sorry when I see favoritism I point it out... But they are hardly alone in this every review site has their favorite franchises so whatever its a great sight so I can overlook these flaws...
  • Well, if you use superlatives in any form, you have to expect contradiction of someone. I guess nobody is right or wrong here. For someone the guides here are the biggest thing xbox on the internet, just because they prefer the forum-style approach. And - not that I'm that active - but I guess there's much more in the forums going on than guides and small help-sessions. For others, who like modern layouts and up-to-date community and social-media-like tools like @1 mentioned, it may be not the biggest thing.
  • While I use this and TA for information, XBA is hands down the place to go for community, conversation and help. If I can't find something in the guide I go straight for the XBA forums. It doesn't matter how old the game is, I have been able to get solid help when stuck or needing feedback. I've also found some wonderful friends here that made the games more enjoyable and the conversation one to go beyond the life of the game. I welcome more updates and I can say that hands down this is my favorite gaming related site that keeps me coming back to for discussion and help. *waves to Dirty and Bear*
  • Great point, Odessa. The forums are top notch when it comes to assistance.
