DICE has taken to the stage at its live stream event to officially announce Battlefield 1, which as per the rumours, will be taking the series to World War I, for "the Dawn of All-Out-War", it says here.

The game will have an "adventure-filled campaign" taking in locations like the Italian Alps and the deserts of Arabia,  and "epic multiplayer" for up to 64 players, in which you'll club enemies with your spiky trench club, charge into battle on horseback brandishing a saber, drive one of those tanks things that can flip over and keep going, and best of all, dogfight in a zippy little tri-plane.

You can even stare down a huge zeppelin. It's got everything, it seems. Check it all out in the reveal trailer, Collector's Edition and screenshots below. Battlefield 1 will be braving the mud and filth of the trenches on 21st October 2016 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Keep an eye out for more Battlefield 1 coverage on the site later today.

  • Take away laying down and this'll be a day one purchase for me.
  • Good idea Dice, should be refreshing. Good to see they're not make another modern shooter.
  • Wow, looks like it could be different and fun. I love alt history games, if the rumors are true. Can't wait to check out the bi-planes. Bold move. Love it.
  • Did I just see mustard gas?
  • @4 yes you did. Cant wait for this. RIP CoD
  • Just read it isn't actually an alt history game. Kinda bummed about that but it still looks fun. Still a bold move.
  • Activision didn't listen, but it's good to know that DICE actually care what the people wants on shooters these days :P
  • FINALLY something other than a futuristic warfare game! Definitely going to pre-order this ASAP.
  • The first battlefield I've been excited for in like 5 years
  • I don't usually preorder but come on. The song, the gameplay, perfect.
  • Everything looks awesome but the name.
  • Looks fucking fantastic.
  • I love this already. Can't wait for the tank missions and being able to use old style tanks and airplanes online!!!
  • I'm definitely intrigued by this game.
  • This song cover is much better than the Space Oddity one, that was awful. Game looks good to.
  • OMG YES ITS TRUE HYYYYYYYPE
  • Shit stream didnt show me anything ill care more when I see actual gameplay not pre rendered in hame engine marketing bullshit.
  • Genious! Love the title, and the direction is so fresh compared to the crap COD is peddling these days.
  • Pre-order Deluxe Edition & you get the game 3 days early.
  • Wow. They've made WW1 look absolutely amazing to battle in and I didn't think they would be able to pull it off. Also happy to hear The Glitch Mob on yet another game trailer. Those guys rule!
  • @ #11 I know, right? It's like calling the third Xbox the "Xbox One". Waitaminute. . .
  • COD is way better
  • This is extremely exciting, especially as a fan of wwi/ii history. It looks like I finally have to purchase a Battlefield game!
  • It's funny how I kind of predicted this when I was discussing this with friends months ago. How either Battlefield or COD were ignoring a "lesser" war like WW I. I mean: As America got into the conflict at a later time, and most countries were neutral. This is very cool. Flying like the Red Baron over enemies, fighting with mustard gas and against zeppelins and tanks! This is going to rock. EA, read this: Just make the balance between a good multiplayer and a great singleplayer. Make it at least 20-25 hours minimum.
  • Day One for me. I will be skipping infinite warfare for sure now, the WWI setting clinched it for me. Looks amazing.
  • Call of Duty doesn't stand a chance against this. Day One buy for sure. This will be my taking a break from Doom game :)
  • OK Dice... you got my attention for the first time in like 5 years. Let's see what you got at E3 to keep it!
  • @28 EA dont have an E3 this year, they have there own conventions in USA and England so more than likly been shown there. Might be something with Microsoft seeing as CODs with Sony now and EA have a contact with Microsoft.
  • Meh. It's still gonna be just another generic FPS, it's just Battlefield with a WW1 skin, just like how Star Wars Battlefront was just Battlefield with a Star Wars skin.
  • Battlefield meh! COD meh!
  • If they have a solid horror filled campaign showing the horrors of the trenches, I'll be interested, until then I'll just take the occasional look over at progress. Still, got much more going for it them COD does atm.
  • Finally some originality in the shooter genre, look amazing imo, and 64 player multiplayer good be very exciting.
  • yeah i will get this
  • They had me at Jack White
  • @ #30 What defines a "non-generic FPS" to you then?
  • @36 probably halo... On topic:- finally they listened to us, see those hundreds of thousands of dislikes on the infinite warfare video? That's the pissed off fans that wanted a ww2 game or wanted cod 4 remastered to be available to everyone (still confuses me why they didn't just release it seperate people would have bought it for £30) Oh infinity ward, remember when you made games people couldn't wait to play? Wait what's that you don't? Oh yeah none of you are original staff are you, oh dear.
  • After playing "ORIGINS" on Black Ops II Zombies, I'd imagine the CoD series should have been going to this route earlier. I'll bet my white Caucasian ass that when this game gets the success jingles, Activision will be playing the same drums for their own series, ay? ;)
  • I PRAY that this will sell better than last 3 CODs, that's all.
  • Looks like Star Wars Battlefront to me. - HiissingMeat
