The Godfather II
Free Godfather 2 MP DLC Available at Launch

EA today announced that when the Godfather 2 launches on April 7th (North America) and April 10th (Europe), players will have the chance to download a new multiplayer mode free of charge, known as "Don Control."

No, Don Control is not a mind control technique the game teaches you where you have the ability to make Donald Sutherland be more like his son Kiefer. Instead, it's the online strategic version that makes full usage of the newly added Don View. A bit like mobster chess if you must.

"Don Control introduces an additional layer of gameplay on top of the four multiplayer modes and six maps already available in the game and invites players to compete to see who is the ultimate Don of Dons. Players can now challenge one another in 16-player battles for their in-game currency from the single-player game. As a Don online, players can recruit others to join their family by giving them a cut of the profits. But if a player loses as Don, the in-game currency they wagered will be removed in their single-player campaign and their empire can come crumbling down."

Have I confused you with the phrase "Don View"? Well let us elaborate ... "The Don’s View is a 3D representation of the player's criminal empire, putting the player in the Don’s mindset; it allows them to coordinate their strategy, plan hits on rival made men, attack enemy rackets, and much more."

Free DLC on release is nothing but good, right? Well, we've got a funny feeling that the mode wasn't set to be ready for the game's mass manufacturing which can't be far off, but free DLC is free DLC whether it's the not made the original cut off point or not ... unless you don't have broadband ... but why the hell would you want an online multiplayer mode then?

It'll be free for the first month or so, then I suspect they'll charge for it. This is EA we're talking about.

Everyone seems to forget that it was EA that let Criterion have their "year of free DLC" which had some pretty good stuff, most other companies would have sold the Motorbike DLC for at least 800msp.

And seen as this seems to have been something they didnt quite finish for the dead line it makes sence that it is free.

It's funny how people only complain about paid DLC thats announced before the game's release.

Then when they announce that theres free DLC coming before the game is released everyone loves it...

@10 That's because it's pointless to complain about Free DLC; so you have to love it!

I don't know how much I'll play Don Control, seems more like a RTS mode to me.

Yes you did misunderstand me :)

People usually complain about DLC being announced or released days after a game has been released or before a games release. This is mainly because it shows either that the game is incomplete or it's the developer trying to rip the consumer off for content that should be in the game (yes i know it will be free @ release but i'm sure it wont stay that way). If it's none of them then people usually complain that they shouldn't have DLC out so they aren't tempted to get it, because they want to actually play the game first.

Maybe I'm weird too... hehe :P

Should we feel lucky? Now because RE5 is charging for multiplayer modes we should feel lucky about anybody that gives us multiplayer modes for free? EA trying to make it look like they're doing us a favor.

I agree with #3, they'll probably end up charging for it soon after. DLC is really getting out of hand.

Companies know they can make a killing on DLC. It seems the multiplayer was indeed supposed to be in the game originally. Thankfully it is available for download for free.

I would suggest downloading it as soon as possible even if you don't have the game yet. As everyone is saying, it's only free for now...

# 10. You are the weirdo. That is like saying "Nobody complains about having the red ring of death until their 360 gets the red ring of death", and then calling them a weirdo for it. Think before you speak/type.

@10/17 People complain about DLC this close to games release if you have to pay extra for something that should have beeen on the disc (Resident Evil 5).

@evry1 who is saying EA will make you pay for it later, THEN DOWNLOAD IT WHEN ITS FREE its not going to take up that much room on your HD. I hate EA as much as anyone but they have offered Free DLC on other games that is still free (Burnout Paradise, BF: Bad Company).

Yeah, 26 is right, this is stuff the developer wanted on the disc, but EA wanted to maintain their release date. It makes sense, because if you don't have access to live, it wouldn't be of service to you anyway. I plan on renting this, so it's perfect.

everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that the multiplayer has only 6 maps, i doubt it will be a very good multiplayer aswell.

and yeah lets all hate EA cos they make the most money... surely by that logic we should all hate microsoft aswell?

Achievements for free also? sounds good if so. I have the feeling this is going to be trend. Gets more than 1000 points on a game at launch, sorta. :)

@28 we don't hate EA because they make the most money. Its because there servers are always laggy, they rush out games that should be polished more, and it only took them a year to fix BF Bad Company so you can get 1000gs in it. I know other publishers have issues to but since EA is the biggest it gets the most hate.

Intrigued you can wager your single player money, and gotta love free DLC. I'm sure they'll release a lot of DLC that they'll charge for like they did in the first level 4 weapons or special crew members.
