Disney Infinity Online Services Will Start Shutting Down in September on Consoles

Following the cancellation of all things Disney Infinity and the closure of developer Avalanche Software, Disney has been informing fans of the timeline for closure of the game's online services - most notably the end of Toybox submissions - which will start shutting down in late September.

"The Disney Infinity Community team will no longer be reviewing or approving any new Toy Boxes that are submitted to Disney for all console, mobile and PC versions of the game," Disney Interactive states. This will happen from 30th September. "However if you are playing on any console, Apple TV or Windows 8/10 versions of the game, you can continue to download your favourite Toy Boxes from the Community Content section until March 3, 2017"

It's on 3rd March 2017 that "all Disney Infinity online services and community features for all versions will be discontinued", according to Disney Interactive, meaning if you've any achievements pertaining to the Toybox and other online Disney Infinity features to unlock, you'll need to get them before then. If you've yet to submit a Toybox, you'll have to do that before 30th September. You'll still be able to continue playing Disney Infinity with saved progress.

[Thanks, Marcus]

  • Shutting down? I could never get the multiplayer to fucking work in the first place.
  • I never got into a multiplayer match to begin with. This is some BS. Any game that shuts down servers should automatically unlock online achievements. No game should have unobtainable achievements due to crap like this.
  • @2 100% agree.
  • @1 @2. There was a patch in March (I think) that supposedly made the online arcade better. It was still terrible, but I did eventually get my 10 Arcade matches done on both X1 and 360. For some reason, 360 worked a lot better. One definite improvement was the ability to bring one guest with you, so you could fill 2/4 slots at least. Still hard to match with a friend though; I did most of my matches with randoms. Good luck.
  • Will this affect achievements in general? Or is everything online and multiplayer option? Also: What a ripoff. Asking for loads of money per figure, now shutting down services? Guess Infinity 4.0 can get fucked for many angry consumers!
  • I agree with @5. This is an expensive game, and to just drop all support....dumb. Pretty much the biggest 'fuck you' you can give to your users. Shame really. But I guess thats the price you pay (no pun intended) when you invest your money in a game like this.
  • They should have known that server shutdown would be inevitable. With that... they probably should have picked a different name for this Disney game, other than "Infinity" (since the servers would never be up THAT long)! I sincerely hope that anyone who still needs online-only achievements knows this is coming, so they can finish them before it's too late!!!
  • Screw it, all games should unlock all trophies for free upon putting it in your system. No game should be unobtainable to anyone, even if they don't have the skill! *rolls eyes*
  • achievements, trophies....eh
  • @9 What's that aboot... eh? People aren't talking about unlocking achievements for no effort. People are talking about portions of their games being locked out permanently, through no fault of their own. I like others, simply feel server locked cheevs are bs. A compromise would be to have them auto unlock, or have them change the unlock conditions. Having them locked permanently, is essentially them flipping us the bird.
  • @10: It's not locked out, though. It's available. Right now. If you want them, go get them.
  • @2 Why? You didn't earn it. Most of the time we're warned they're shutting down.
  • How many achievements will be unobtainable?
  • #10- No, you do NOT deserve an achievement because a server shuts down. That's a slap in the face to everyone that actually did earn it. I'll never understand that mentality. You have time to get them, right now. I have dozens of games w/ ach's I can't get due to closed servers...I deal with it. And yes, asking for ach's to unlock when a game goes offline IS asking for ach's with no effort.... I mean, I agree it's all BS, but that's part of online gaming.
  • @14 You misunderstand what I was getting at. For the most part, I agree with pretty much all of your #14 post. Of course I believe you should earn EVERY achievement on your card. I've put in thousands, if not 10k + hours on my tag over 10 years. Trust me, I put in so much effort and time into my hobby. Take Project Spark for example. This game is getting shut down in a few weeks. I've dedicated the past 2 and a half months to this game. Never once did I say, "Man, that's wack! These cheevs should auto unlock for me!" I simply went into my backlog and played the hell out of the game. It turned out to be a WONDERFUL surprise. My only point of contention is this, they simply need to allow for alternate means of unlocking these achievements. That's all me and the others here want. Just ask them. Look at my profile here. You'll see that I have the NBA Live 07 award. That's another server closed game that took multiple sites to pull off. Man nobody is asking for games to just unlock with no effot. What would be the point? We just want this practice of server closer locks to stop. Alternative means.. nothing wrong with asking for that. My local Wal-Mart has the games for $20. Regardless of price, any game I buy has to be something I want to play. Some people put away too much stock into achievements. In the end, we all find ways to manage.
  • #15, I do agree that it would be nice if all ach's had an alternate way of unlocking them. I mean, Mass Effect 3 did it right there!! I'm not saying you were asking for free ach's, but #2 and 3, who I was initially referencing, were. I also see this on sites quite a bit...people thinking that they deserve them to be unlocked automatically if a server shuts down. I've seen it on both PSN and Xbox sites. Again, I never said you thought that, but many do..hell, people actually neg'd my comment, which indicates they disagree with me. That's fine and all! I could see if that were ever implemented- people would go from getting pissed a server shuts down, do getting pissed they are still up after x years because they want their free ach's, hahaha.
  • You guys take achievements way too fucking seriously.
  • @17 Damn straight, YEAH! :p Seriously though, they have become both a blessing and a curse. For me, everything comes from natural progression. I'm having fun playing my way. It doesn't matter what hobby it is, people will display different levels of passion for the same ones you enjoy. Take Star Wars for example. Some people like the movies and toys etc.. But some people LOVE them. Coldest ions (left that in because my phones auto correct likes to troll me lol). Collections, toys, conventions, Blu Rays etc.. People are different. Their levels of enthusiasm will vary. Instead of lamenting someones differences (not a shot at you), I simply choose to celebrate my own :)
  • @16 My biggest issue with the servers shutting down and locking out my achievements is that I tried incredibly hard to get those achievements. They had absolutely nothing to do with skill. Take a look at the Arcade Ace achievement, worth 100G. It has no skill required. It demands you play 10 online arcade matches. I spent about 20 hours in lobbies. Sitting at my computer reading reddit, occasionally exiting out of the lobby and re-entering. 20 hours and I was able to get into 3 matches, because the system was broke to begin with. So they really ought to change the requirements or else give me the 100G because as it stands, the achievement has no skill required, unless that skill is to be really very patient and stare at your xbox doing nothing for hours on end
