E3 2009: The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Details
Written By

Back by popular demand, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition faithfully re-imagines the internationally-acclaimed classic game (originally released in 1990) for original and new audiences alike. The development team at LucasArts is bringing the game into the modern era with all-new high-definition graphics, a re-mastered musical score, full voiceover, and an in-depth hint system has been added to help players through the game’s side-splitting puzzles. Purists will also delight in the ability to seamlessly switch between the updated HD re-imagining and the original classic version.

The game's twisty plot leads our naive hero on a hilarious, swash-buckling search for the fabled secret of Monkey Island. Tales of pirate wealth lure him to the port of Mêlée with high hopes, no money, and insatiable curiosity. If clever enough, he will win the confidence of Mêlée's pirates and find himself blown by the winds of fate toward the terrifying and legendary Monkey Island -- an adventure that would chill the bones of even the most bloodthirsty buccaneer.

@Add-man - it says you can seamlessly switch between the new HD graphics and the older-original, so if you don't like the new art-style, you're sorted either way! :)

God I loved this game back in the day- Used to play it on the Amiga! LOL the sequel was great too. Was kind of hoping this would see a re-release with the current slew of point and click adventures being re-released

This may possibly be the greatest news of all time. On top of the 5 new episodic adventures coming along with it... I just can't recommend this enough to people who never got a chance to play it.

Who would've thunk that Monkey Island would make a splash at E3 2009.

The only thing that could screw this awesome news up is the final product being massively overpriced

Yes! First Wallace and Gromit, soon Sam and Max and now Monkey Island!

I only ever played Escape From Monkey Island on PS2 and loved it. One of mall-time favorite games. Everyone said it was the worst MI game though, so I can't wait to play this one. It should be amazing.

My first point and click was Broken Sword, and that will always remain my personal favorite and what i want to see on Live, but without that being announced, then is one of my dream games for Live, i can't wait!
