The Beatles: Rock Band
The Beatles: Rock Band DLC to Include Original Dreamscapes
Written By
View author's profile

Seeing as The Beatles stopped touring in 1966, Harmonix needed a solution to make the studio backdrops a little more intriguing - enter the "dreamscapes."

Dreamscapes are essentially parts in the song where the Abbey Road studio walls melt away and in come some crazy psychodelic interpretations of the song.

How will that work with upcoming DLC? Dare Matheson, Lead Artist at Harmonix, told Joystiq, "DLC songs which don't end up in historical venues will have custom dreamscapes, yes."

"There will be visual themes and elements that will stretch from the on-disc dreamscapes into the DLC dreamscapes, but everyone is custom, unique, and fully-crafted for the song it will accompany. It's a bargain!"

Seeing as the songs will cost the usual 160 Microsoft points a piece, we can't help but agree with Matheson. Bargain indeed!

I really never enjoyed Rock Band, but the Beatles seem to be a very large investment.

This game really is the best of all rhythm/music games especially since they will release abbey road and sergeant peppers L.H.C.B. The signature drum kit is also a great if you have the extra cymbals

Can't wait to get it but I am disappointed that I have to pay extra for Abbey Road because thats my main reason for getting it.

Is anyone else pissed off that they basically sold half a game? Apparently there are only 45 songs in the damn thing which is barely half of the avg rock band/gh game and not only that on day one there is dlc?! What the fuck? How are people ok with this when they take a band like the beatles with a billion song catalog and give us a small sample at full price and then make you pay extra for the rest. Now a 60 dollar game (more if you bought the full kit) ends up costing well over 100 for songs that should have been included to begin with. they were obviously ready to release them by launch. I'm all for dlc to extend the life of a game but I think that whole idea was lost on this game.

Wait, so wont the DLC be quite big to download now cause on top of the audio and charts your also download custom-made "dreamscapes" or CGI visuals. Eh that's probably just me being a douche. Maybe its time to stop stinging with my last 2 GB and buy a new hard drive .

@7 I hear ya! I think there is only 43 tracks... Short setlist aside the game is great, the visuals are eyepopping and the audio is amazing! This concept of shortchanging us with short sets is not new. Look at GH: Metallica... It only had 48 songs and just half were by them!

i noticed that they added the chorus words on "all you need is love" to the studio venue but then "hey Bulldog" had the same dreamscape. and the "Oh Darling" video thats on youtube shows them in the "The end" dreamscape which is just them standing around each toehr in studio 2. Most of Abbey road will be in studio 2 i assume and sgt pepper in the sgt pepper dreamscape. rubber soul I'm assuming studio 2 66 or shea.

Your trying to compare a sort of side game to the main series of games. So let us take a compare GH: Metallica to RB: Beatles, in terms of songs. GH: Metallica has just over 50 songs while RB: Beatles has 45 songs. GH: Metallica has 31 Metallica and over 20 non-Metallica songs, RB: Beatles has a full game to themselves, no other bands that 'inspired' them, only the Beatles. PLUS the Guitar Hero expansion games DON'T HAVE A SINGLE BIT OF DLC, while in the next 3 months you can get 3 FULL ALBUMS. Also, it's the Beatles, don't think about that, just enjoy the game to the fullest.

Valid point comparing this game to GH: Metallica but you can't say that this is a "side game." Harmonix is for sure banking on this more than RB 3 whenever that comes out. I also 100% agree that the set lists for the other GH games (Metallica/Aerosmith) are pretty weak but The Beatles have a MUCH bigger library of music. It's just disappointing that with all the music they really only gave us a small taste. I'm sure it's a great music game but enjoying it to the fullest, for me, would require a full library. It's not like they left out obscure music that only the hardcore fans would want either. They left out some great stuff. Also, how much will each album cost? 20 dollars? I just couldn't imagine buying a Zeppelin game and only have Zeppelin 3 and 4 in the game and then havi

I love the game. You guys should enjoy it for the fantastic music that it does have. There's a ton to do and the music is all amazing, every song is great. Just have fun, every time I play Rock Band that's what brings me back, it's always fun.

@7, no. Did you even hear about the astronomical licencing fee that was required to get this game to come to be? I almost laughed when I read your complaint about the money grubbing charity donation that the now available DLC is there for.

It's definitely a niche game and it sure sounds like it's not up your alley. The best way to show your displeasure is not buying it. Me on the other hand, am enjoying the hell out of this game and the future DLC to come.

Despite beating the story in a single sitting last night, I definitely have to say that the dreamscapes are one of the major factors in making that game amazing. Looking forward to the many DLC.

Well, being a fan of something (if that's music, games, movies etc. doesn't matter) is always going to cost you. Collectors ed. here, additional stuff there, poster on the wall etc..

Me being a fan of The Beatles' music and a fan of (music) games, i'll be happy to fork out another 10+ bucks for an entire album. That's less than i'd spend on a CD anyway.

A few points to ponder...first off, if you pre-ordered through Gamestop, you got a code that gets you 3 songs (most likely 3 of the 160ms point codes like you get with GH5) from either of the two upcoming albums. Now you're at 48. 2nd, the "full" games (like GH5, RB1 or RB2) do have 80+ songs each, but barley half are non-cover, big name bands. They can easily pay 30-40 bands a little to have one or two songs, but licensing/ royalty fees to get a group to put 45 together, especially with The Beatles (whose music isn't even on iTunes), is very expensive. Third, file size, for the backgrounds, won't change much. "Trippy" backgrounds aren't going to be much harder to code than the normal crazy stages/ venues, and even Lips gets the music videos in at decent sizes. Final...you get a Beatles sh

I want "She Loves You" for DLC.
I'm puzzled as to why its not in there, its a perfect song for RB and its a classic.

@#30
"All You Need Is Love" is already up for download for 160 MS points, all the proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders.

The rest of Abbey Road is coming on Oct. 20th
The rest of Sgt. Pepper's L.H.C.B is coming out in Nov.
The rest of Rubber Soul is in Dec.

That's all the DLC announced so far, each song is the normal 160 MS points ($1.99) and Abbey Road in its entirety will cost 1360 MS points ($16.98). No pricing so far on the others.

I bought this game on the midnight release and can hardly put it down. The only song, in my opinion, that shouldn't have made it on here is I Want You(She's So Heavy). That is a good song but is really tedious on the game. All in all this is a great game and I just beat it and unlocked The End. Can't wait for the DLC to come out.
