Brutal Legend
Brutal Legend Demo Out Today... But Only For GameStop Pre-Orders
Written By
View author's profile

When Tim Schafer announced the Brutal Legend demo at GamesCom last month, he failed to mention that the September 17th release date only applied to those that pre-ordered the game from GameStop... but it is.

EA and Double Fine recently sent word that the Brutal Legend demo is available today for GameStop (and others) pre-orderers. A technique that baffles me every time. Why give pre-order folks early access to a demo for a game they are already getting, when leaving those unsure of the purchase, waiting on the sidelines? *shrugs*

For everyone else, the demo will become available to the general public in the "coming weeks."

This offer extends to other e-tailers from around the world (UK - GAME, Australia - EB Games, Italy - Blockbuster, Finland - VPD). The offer isn't limited to these few.

This one was a toss up anyway, and the demo was going to be the tie breaker, of course now I have to wait even longer now. :(

That is effin' asinine.
People that ALREADY want the game and plunked down cash to pre-order it get a demo?!??!?! It's nice to reward someone for pre-ordering but they OBVIOUSLY want the game.
Aren't demos more useful to people whom are on the fence about purchasing a certain type of game?!?!

Well if all of the pre release videos of it are anything to go by, its a must not have game game anyway, I'd rather buy Wet than this and I vowed never to play that game again after trying the demo.

Is it just me or do game publishers do the opposite of what makes sense? When it comes to making money, I guess I understand their methods, but this is just dumb.

Wow really? I was excited to try it out :/. I agree with ya rockel, why would you not release the demo to everyone since the game prolly won't sell that much and a demo would help some people buy it.

Ohh well.atleast we get 2 soccer demos today!!! /sarcasm

I would like to thank EA and Double Fine for allowing me to save my $60. I had been considering this but was waiting on the demo to make the call. If a developer isn't smart enough to understand the purpose of a demo they don't deserve my money. Absolute Fail!

This makes sense. People have committed $60 to the game, and you're giving them a chance to cancel the order if they don't like the demo. S-M-A-R-T!

Isn't a demo made to sell a game? Why would they let people who already bought the game play it?? They might release the demo to everyone when the game is out already which is kinda a waste.

Completely baffles me and its becoming a trend... Demos are promo materials to get the game sold. Falls under the same asinine thing XBL does for music videos... umm.. yeah you see they're promos to SELL THE ALBUM. Argh. I mean I have this preordered already so I'm not out in the cold on it... but it makes less than no sense. "Oh you've already decided to buy it? here's the first level!"

@#26

IT depends on what E-Store you got the game pre orderd from.

They are not making a mistake they are giving the game to people who pre orderd first.

I'm annoyed that it comes out at 11pm on a weeknight. I have the code but can't even enter it until 11pm (I tried and it says I have to wait or it may become invalid). I do agree that the demo should be geared more towards those who haven't purchased it yet. Perhaps they're looking for word of mouth to hit. *shrugs*

The concept is that you get TWO things for pre-ordering...an in-game weapon of some sort (didn't pay much attention), and "early access" to the demo. They know you want to buy it, they are releasing a demo before the game comes out for everyone else to try, but by committing to a purchase, it becomes a bit like a closed beta as a bonus. The public demo comes out in ONE WEEK, and is, of course, for Gold only (at first).

As for the codes themselves, if you ordered it online, you should get an email with the code. Gamestop got their code cards just yesterday, so there is always the chance someone didn't open a box, and they are just in the back room.

And dont think about preordering to play the demo and then cancel it. Once you have the code they won't let you cancel it. (via their website)

The point in reservation bonuses is to generate more reserves.

More reserves = higher estimated demand = more copies shipped to stores. If no one reserved it, stores would only get a few (like 2-4) copies. If a game generates a lot of reserves, they're able to dish out way more copies (typically 5-10, 20-40, 50+ depending on how big the title is).

It's not hard to put five dollars down in advance. If you don't want it, move it to something else with preorder bonuses or just get a refund.

There are far too many games this coming season that warrant a purchase. If the demo's not out by the time MW2 rolls around I doubt I'll buy it, since I'll probably be spending that money elsewhere (Borderlands, ODST, MW2).

Demos for those that have already bought the game? So if the demo is crap people would cancel their pre-order?
