Rocket Knight
Konami Announces Rocket Knight for Xbox Live Arcade
Written By
Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced Rocket Knight is currently in development for the Xbox LIVE® Arcade, PlayStation®Network and for PC download via Steam. The popular 2D side-scrolling title first released on the 16-bit SEGA Genesis™ and later on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System™, Rocket Knight debuts on next generation consoles fifteen years later with updated graphics and alluring new environments.

"Konami's classic 2D action platform titles have a legacy of being well received and enjoyed by gamers worldwide," said David Daniels, Director of Marketing at Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. "So it was only natural that we bring Sparkster, our favorite opossum hero, to next generation consoles with a combination of elevated graphics, all new environments and of course, the signature rocket action gameplay."

In Rocket Knight, players take on the role of a fiery opossum named Sparkster who returns home to the Kingdom of Zephyrus after 15 years to find it in shambles. Using wits and a trusty rocket pack, players must steer clear and overcome a hostile wolf army looming to take the lives of the Zephyrus people. A 2.5D action adventure title, Rocket Knight brings expansive new worlds, each with massive platform levels and a rocket flying level. As players navigate through the challenges, their rocket pack can be used to ricochet off walls, launch Sparkster through obstacles and enemies in his way, and rocket drill through weak walls to create new passageways. Along with burst projectiles that shoot from Sparkster's sword to attack distant foes, a burst vortex can also be created from players' rocket pack to repel enemy bombs back at them. If all else fails, players can use Sparkster's prehensile tail to hang from and slide down rails in order to avoid danger. With timed levels and leaderboards, dedicated players will also be able to show off their high scores and fastest times online.
Rocket Knight will hit the Xbox Live Arcade in 2010.

#6 You are thinking of "Sunset Riders", which is what I am waiting for too. Konami use to make the best games in the 16-Bit era.

Everyone has been giving this game's graphics the finger lately. I'd be shocked if they messed this game up.

I've never heard of it.

Though I must admit, remakes on the arcade are usually pretty damned good, I'll keep an eye out since a lot of other people seem to have positive things to say about it.

originally I only bought games off the arcade, that I played and remembered from my youth. That changed lately and I'm trying out games that I didn't play before. Glad I took the opportunity and am looking out for this one :-)

Heard about this over a week ago on But it is great news, the game was a classic. I wonder if they will tone the difficulty down though, I remember this game being hard as nails in the Mega-Drive/Genesis days.

@ #20:

I would LOVE to play Road Rash again. I miss those games terribly. I'm glad to see XBLA picking up some of the old games i loved so dearly; I bought a Wii purely for virtual console purposes, and then realized most of the games I was hoping for weren't happening.

A suggestion of my own: assuming Rare decides to not be so damn stingy with licensing deals (Banjo-Kazooie gives me hope), I'd like to play Blast Corps, Goldeneye and the original Perfect Dark. End rant.

When looking at this trailer here I have to say that I don't like the new graphics. Looks like a high-def-PS1-game lacking the soul and charm of the original. But well, we'll see.

Hey that trailer doesn't look so bad, at least the graphics aren't as rubbish as the new Turtles game. It looks like the PS1 game we should have had years ago, but better late than never.

EXCELLENT. I'm thinking instant buy!

And I'm really glad to see there's plenty of people wanting Sunset Riders. I really love that game. Hopefully, if demand is high enough (which I'm now kind of suspecting it might be) Konami will be nice and give us what we want.

They could give it updated graphics if they wanted to, so long as they didn't mess with the gameplay AT ALL. That game was perfect. (Apart from adding XBL Co-op of course. But I get to be Cormano...)

"Konami's classic 2D action platform titles have a legacy of being well received and enjoyed by gamers worldwide"

How about an updated version of a Castlevania game instead? Its been at least 3 years since Symphony of the Night hit live arcade, and that was just a port. I'd love to see Castlevania III or IV remade with new graphics. I dont remember anyone really being a huge Rocket Knight fan back in the day.

I just bought an original Rocket Knight Adventures cartridge recently, so this is sort of cool to hear.
