bah, unless they just re-made Chaos Theory MP i would not playFriday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:09 PM
... If spies vs. mercs doesn't work anymore...uhh, can I ask what does? Deathmatch? CTF? KotH? Nevermind. Splinter Cell's dead. Just can't accept that fact.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:10 PM
hmmm well i hope they do bring out some good dlc. if they have ideas multiplayer they shud add them to this.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:10 PM
hell yeahFriday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:10 PM
Makes sense.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:12 PM
well that kinda sucks. That mode wasn't too bad IMO. :/Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:15 PM
@#2 - Who said it didn't work? The fact they've changed the engine totally means the mode would have to be reworked, rebalanced, remade, re-etc.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:17 PM
I never got too much into it. By the time i played spies versus mercs the online was fairly dead. It was quite fun though and i'd like to see a return eventually.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:43 PM
I haven't heard to much about the MP other than the co-op. So what are the other MP modes going to be then? Or have they not released that info yet.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 05:49 PM
It's not that big of a deal people. They could always add a Spies vs Mers mode in future DLC down the line. They would be stupid not to.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 06:56 PM
I only played it a little, it was fun when we had 6 people playing (DA version). I do hope that it returns eventually.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 06:58 PM
I could care less about any of the MP for this game. Just want to play the story modeFriday, March 12, 2010 @ 08:00 PM
13, couldn't have said it better myself. But, on the other hand, if the multi is any good ... it might be the second multiplayer I've ever bothered with.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 08:35 PM
i love how everyone QQs over one game mode that sucked. Face OFF looks better than Spies vs MercsFriday, March 12, 2010 @ 08:36 PM
So the only MP this game will have is online co op? If thats the case, fine by me.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 08:46 PM
It's really not that big a deal. Like #15 said, Face-off looks amazing. Having the ability to take out another player exactly the same as an NPC gives a large sense of vulnerability. I loved one of the newer vids where player 2 killed a terrorist and player 1 just jumped down and snapped his neck, priceless.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 08:51 PM
Co-op story is better than most MP modes anyway.Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 10:57 PM
@#10 - 1 co-op story campaign. 3 co-op objective modes: survival-esque prevent target from waves of attacks mode (Last Stand); stealth into an area without being detected mode (Infiltration); and eradicate a crew mode (Hunter). 1 competitive mp mode (face off - 1 on 1).Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 11:06 PM
BULLSHIT BULLSHIT AND BULLSHIT. I am all for buying this game and enjoying it completely. But I'd be so much more happier if they just put it in there.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 12:41 AM
I was #1 in the world at Pandora Tomorrow. I'm REALLY going to miss that game mode. So much fun.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 01:20 AM
Wow... For everyone who isn't furious about no spys vs mercs, you have no clue about how good splinter cell was (Spinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow) and the real reason why the SC series remain a favourite! Splinter Cell: Double Agent's "multiplayer" was such a let down. I thought maybe Ubisoft would have the sense to make spys vs mercs a must since so many got DA thinking there would be spys vs mercs multiplayer and were highly disapointed! I just don't get it. I guess I will be holding onto my "Warehouse" memories until Ubisoft smartens up.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 01:44 AM
I love spies vs mercs :/ Conviction is still looking good though.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 02:31 AM
Can't believe the abuse this game is getting! It's looking like being one of the best titles of the year, and it's EXCLUSIVE to the 360. Seriously, what part of "New Splinter Cell" and "Exclusive to 360" is wrong? Spies vs. Mercs wasn't all that IMO, and i'd rather have a Co-Op story than MP for a game where it feels slightly out of place. I'm stoked for Conviction, I thought the first build looked quite good, but the new version has blown me away. Roll on April, the voice of Michael Ironside will be the only thing I hear for about a week X-DSaturday, March 13, 2010 @ 02:48 AM
What's with the Ubi takeover here? First, it was every Mega64 video for an entire year being Ubisoft ads and right now it's Splinter Cell 24/7. Just chill with it.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 04:23 AM
Well I won't be buying this now - spies vs mercs was the best bit of the Splinter Cell, simply cannot believe they dropped it - probably dropping multi-player from Ghost Recon next ( UBISOFT TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OFF YOUR ASS )Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 05:04 AM
I'd take co-op over multiplayer anyday.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 06:54 AM
@#26 it was the worst multiplayer mode created. People would simply play spy and quit when they played merc. The game was hugely unblanced, cumbersome, buggy and if you didn't know how to play you would get pummeled and learn nothing from the beating experience. The game mode is simply too niche. Honestly you not buying is no love lost, Splinter Cell was designed for singelplayer the first game didn't need a Mp component and today really the only one that makes sense is co-op, even versus makes no sense with 1v1.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 08:24 AM
@24 Not exclusive to the 360 since theres a PC version. But ANYWAYS to people who would say that they would take co-op over SVM mode didn't Chaos Theory have both of them?Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 09:39 AM
quite frankly im glad, i was shite at spies vs mercs and would like to 1k this game, and if it was in there im sure they would have achievs for it.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 12:02 PM
@#26 I agree, this game went form a buy to a rent for meSaturday, March 13, 2010 @ 05:20 PM
I suppose this is good news, at least we know they are thinking about SvM.Saturday, March 13, 2010 @ 05:32 PM
@28 people only wanted to be spy so bad on double agent. on all the other previous games i felt that the teams were balanced and was one of the most fun MP modes ever. and yeah your right if you diddnt know what you was doing you would get pummeled. but wasnt that what most games was like before call of duty introduced noob friendly gaming?Sunday, March 14, 2010 @ 04:23 AM
Nevre found multiplayer fun so no big lose. Look forward to playing it in co op.Sunday, March 14, 2010 @ 04:34 AM
To the guy who said something about both co-op and SVM being in Chaos Theory, yes, they were, and that's one of the reasons why it's STILL the best SC game.Sunday, March 14, 2010 @ 05:51 AM
I hope they finally release spies v mercs in a dlc pack. But if they charge me for it then theres no point.Sunday, March 14, 2010 @ 09:41 AM
Well if it dosn't work with this how about they make a "Spies vs Mercs" game for XBLA, like how EA and DICE did Battlefield 1943, that would be a good compromise if it can't work in Convition.Sunday, March 14, 2010 @ 09:53 AM
i have been playing since SP1 and i have to say im fine with it as long as coop will be long and greatSunday, March 14, 2010 @ 10:45 AM
Seems like Ubisoft is pretty smart. Why bust ass to release at launch? Wait 2 weeks, then sell it as DLC, charging 800-1600 MSP. welcome to 21st century gaming, where game devs intentionally stall big features to sell them to you weeks later. Smart, as it turns a $60 disc into a $70-$100 game.Sunday, March 14, 2010 @ 01:12 PM
looking forward to co-op so much. hope it aint a let downTuesday, March 16, 2010 @ 12:01 PM
@29 That logic is flawed. PC isn't in the console war so it IS exclusive to 360 as as PS3 owner cannot play it. MS wins whether you buy it on PC (you are probably playing it on MS Windows) or the 360.Tuesday, March 16, 2010 @ 02:42 PM
@25 You are coming to a gaming website that you browse for free and get to use all the achievement tracking stuff for free. And yet you complain that they have game advertisements, which they need to stay alive so they can continue to provide you the site for FREE? LOL Hilarious....

Speaking with X360A in London recently, Creative Director on the title, Maxime Beland, told us that it was too risky to create considering that they were trying to revamp the series in the first place.
“It was really a question of not being able to do it,” said Beland, “Doing Spies vs. Mercs is a whole new ball game and because we had changed the gameplay so much, we didn’t want to take the risk – on top of redefining what Splinter Cell and what stealth is.”
“You know, going into Spies vs. Mercs is a whole new ball game because that’s a game mode that needs to be balanced super well because of its asymmetric gameplay,” he continued.
“The smart move was to not do it right away and to make sure we nail out of the park our core gameplay for Conviction.”
But what about the future of that very popular multiplayer mode?
“We already have some good ideas if we are to do another Splinter Cell game,” Beland noted, “We’ve got some good ideas for multiplayer,” he continued with a huge grin across his face.
Quick to respond, we asked about the potential of seeing it as DLC in the title. “I’m not allowed to talk about DLC, obviously,” Beland said, quick to shoot down any sort of concrete answer about the future of the mode with Conviction.
“Ubisoft supports their games very well when they have a multiplayer component, so I’m sure you can imagine what that means, but I’m not going to comment on any game mode or any anything DLC,” he concluded.
Read into the future of the mode how you want, but the simple fact remains, you don’t have Spies vs. Mercs this time around because they were concentrating on getting the new core gameplay nailed down perfectly.
Makes sense and thankfully, it doesn’t sound like the end of the road for that game mode either. Let’s just hope that its return comes sooner rather than later.
