Green Day: Rock Band
Green Day: Rock Band Albums Revealed
Written By
View author's profile

Did you know that there will be 47 tracks on Green Day: Rock Band? Well now you do. While there's still no confirmed full track list, there definitely will be full albums "Dookie" and "American Idiot" to play through, "capturing two landmark moments in Green Day's career" according to play.com who dropped the featured album list.

Naturally, the band's likenesses feature and there'll be unlockable gubbins, venues, art and other material from the band's history, but you probably already knew that.

There's already Green Day's latest album "21st Century Breakdown" available on the Rock Band Store for download, which will be compatible with Green Day: Rock Band, giving you potentially three complete albums and a list of greatest hits to sing, strum and drum through when the game releases this June.

@3 actually rock band Muse would be pretty sick lol. However, I just don't think Green Day have the technical skill or the lyrical complexity to make them worthy of a rock band game :/ But here it is, and now I'm gonna force myself to rent it because darn it all I'm just curious about all games Rock Band :D

I for one will not purchase Rock Band: Power Chord Edition. I can't believe these guys are getting an exclusive game. As much as I hate the music... I appreciate what they do. I just can't help but think Green Day themselves are funding this for a little more publicity to entice those easily influenced preteens. This is one game that won't be FC'd.

If what Play.com's listing says is correct, as it stands at the moment there will only be 9 songs on this disc that aren't from either Dookie, American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown. I just hope there will be more 21stCB DLC instead...

What the F.... rock band muse? no way! the next one will be The Who and it's confirmed (and I think it's a good choice) but a Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd one would be just as great as The Beatles. I know those rights are hard to get but one can dream. BTW I think Green Day are maybe one of the greatest bands of the modern days... I mean I don't call a band sellouts when they are releasing concept albums...

Wow, seems like Green Day really brings out the haters.

#7, what the hell does lyrical complexity have anything to do with whether a band is good? And technical skill? You're basically re-hashing that whole Beatles argument where the game will be 'too easy'.

The worst argument one can have is whether or not "my" music is better than "your" music. Yet every other day on every message board and RB/GH forum pages there are huge flame wars over what's good and what isn't. Let's see how this turns out.

@25 Led Zep will never happen...Page said the idea of "guitar hero" and all that was dumb and that people should play real instruments..not plastic ones. Pink Floyd..idk..

Also, Rock Band: Muse... NO! I really can't understand how people like Muse so much... They use way to much dist and the vocalist just wails all the time in an extremely annoying way.. but that's just my opinion right? ^^

green day is a good, smart choice. they are going to sell a ton of copies. adults and kids love green day. they are looking for bands they can sell to everyone and green day is a safe choice.

ps ... linkin park? seriously? they only have 3 albums, every song would have to be on the disc.

Journey: Rock Band - without Don't Stop Believin' just to piss off all the idiots who only know the song now that Glee is out. Hah.

Well, i'll be picking this up...as long as they have a fair few songs from Nimrod (one of my favourite albums!)

@34 - Every one of those bands has DLC for Rock Band except Anvil and Danko Jones (whoever the hell they are).

How about instead of charging $20 to download the album as DLC just make a game with ALL of their songs for $60 and charge $20 to import them into Rock Band 2.

um, what?? seeing as they had had four increasingly successful albums out beforehand i think you underestimate their popularity. would be fun to see muse but id rather rb3 before any more games. the idea of being able to play many bands/genres appels because it means i can expand my musical interests, as there's always at least one gem ive never heard before on the game

"@28 there was a time when they were actually alright...then they sold out :/ i still think the only good "band" games where Metallica and The Beatles."

@ 29 - really kinda weird to see this statement, and then Metallica in the same train of thought. Unless you are only talking about the fact they had a "good band game," y'know after 'The Black Album', they cut their hair and went on to write softer bluesy country esque acoustic tracks (Load / Reload)? They are inching back to the right place now, but this thought process confused the heck out of me. ((Some would even say they sold out after 'Justice', and 'TBA' was their mainstream point, etc.)) ; random.

muse is a pathetic rip-off of radiohead and queen. they're garbage. the reason why they're "getting a lot of love" is because they NEVER STOP PLAYING THEIR SINGLE ON RADIO. record company is making a giant push with them, why, i couldn't tell you.

and american idiot by green day was also shit, they should release dookie and insomniac, those are their two great albums.

12 songs from 21st Century Breakdown
13 songs from American Idiot
14 songs from Dookie
3 songs from Insomniac
2 songs from Nimrod
1 song from Warning
12+13+14+3+2+1=45
That means there are still 2 more songs to announce.
With 6 DLC songs already available, that makes 53 Green Day songs on Rock Band. I would have preferred a Muse game, or possibly the rumoured Who or Queen games which have been floating around for a while.

i still do not understand why they made this game. makes no sense to me. every forum or comment section about this game has a majority of "i want other bands" or "greenday Bl0wz0rz", while only a few greenday fans actually show up saying they want it. it was obviously a terrible choice on their part :/

@57, probably a combination of a band with a big catalog, and a low price to use that catalog.

presumably, bands like the beatles and the who get a huge chunk of the action when they lend out their catalog for a game like this, so harmonix forsees a more profitable game by going with a band who can't command as much of a payday. just my guess, i'm obviously no expert.

To whoever said a Linkin Park Rock Band wouldn't work as they only have 3 albums, they could also add some Dead by Sunrise or Fort Minor to it as both of them were made by Linkin Park bandmates as well. The 4th album also isn't that far away, I think it's coming out this year.

On topic: Green day was good to me for awhile, but now I just don't care, the only good song from their new CD IMO was 21 Guns.

Muse are not worthy of a rockband title. (i actually love them) There just is too little songs and too much similarities between them!

Somebody like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple or Bruce Springsteen would be make a great game.

*I'm surprised to see so few haters in here to say 'milking' or what, not!!

Actually a 'Tom Morello:Rock band would be really cool'
They could feature tracks from Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, The Nightwatchman and S.S.S.C. It would be extremely shaweet!!

Since they are deciding to go the bubble gum punk route they really should have gone with Blink-182. The Drumming would be much harder, the songs would be a lot more enjoyable to sing doing Mark and Tom vocal plus they could release some new Blink stuff on there to get sells. Pop some dirty jokes between songs and it would be fun for everyone but your family.

I am commenting as if my opinion is law.

Also, Obsure Metal Band: Rock Band would be the best game ever. Don't listen to any people who actually have experience with this sort of thing, listen to me. Clearly I know more about this than any of your people as I have access to the interwebz and can post on a board.

Green Day is a poor excuse for a band. Kinda the embodiment of everything that is wrong with modern music.
@88 I'm with you. choose someone else, maybe someone more fun, like blink 182, to represent the terrible genera that tainted GOOD punk rock in the 90's.

Needs more blink-182 Rock Band. Then I'll care for a music game.

Do I think they really deserve one? No. But it'd sell like crazy.

And I'd enjoy every minute of it.

a muse game would sell badly no joke. I dont mind the band, but lets be honest here, they are not THAT well known. these kind of games are reserved for bands like the who or U2 who can sell a ton of copies, and I think U2 sucks.

Regardless of your taste in music or your preference for Muse, Blink-182, or some ridiculous hardcore band to be in Rock Band, do you know of any band that has had as many huge and instantly recognizable hits in the last 20 years than Green Day? No, and that is the reason they are making this game. Even though there are some bands that might have more challenging songs to play through like Avenged Sevenfold or Pantera, they simply aren't as marketable as Green Day. In my opinion, Green Day is an extremely creative band and they are constantly trying to top themselves, not selling out. They've been making music for over 20 years, they can't keep making the same music they did on 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. They might not be your favorite band, but look at it from Harmonix's point of vi

view: they are a marketable band, their songs will play well in Rock Band, and they have many different sounds to them because of their longevity in the business. If you don't like Green Day, I have a solution to your problems...don't buy the game. But I can promise you it's not going to break Harmonix's heart or send a message that means anything

I'm definitely going to buy this game.
Green Day's earlier songs/albums were amazing, new stuff...not so much...but I'll wade through American Idiot for the good stuff. 21st Century Breakdown? Gah, one of the biggest shit albums I've ever listened to, horrible...

@105. I can actually think of numerous bands that have had more instantly recognizable hits. (both in the past 20 years and before that).

again, the game is trying to reach specific audiences to draw them into the franchise and hopefully to buy all previous and future instalment! (e.g. All the kids who buy all Lego games will now want Mummy and Daddy to by the the rockband games)

I find it humorous that everyone thinks their taste in music is most important. People have varying taste.

Dookie and American Idiot are my favorite albums from Green Day, and as long as I can import the songs into RB2 or RB3 when it comes out I will pick this title up.

I agree with the argument against any single band for a Rock band game but for Muse they have 5 available albums plus over 30 B sides if anyone has seen them live they know they are one the Top Live acts playing so any of there live performances from HAARP would fit perfectly and musically they are a hell of a lot more talented then GD. And if anyone thinks that the Muse love just started Go to the official Rock Band forum look at the Muse Forum (you'll notice cause its been on Page one for 2 years) and see where the post starts and tell me then how all this Muse love just started because of there last album.

2 Points:

1. To anyone saying Muse are only big because of their latest album - their latest album is their poorest album. They are a fantastic band, and if anything the best is Origins of Symmetry or Absolution (plus all the awesome B Sides).

2. A thrash game based on truely heavy bands would be awesome, but this would never happen. A truely metal one maybe, but unfortunately Harmonix aren't going to make a game for a 'niche' market =[

if me and my friends still played music games i would get this instantly, but since we pretty much havent touched a rb/gh game in over 6 or 7 months it just seems like it would be a waste to get it and play all songs 1 time then never touch it again. glad to see dookie is in its entirety on the game for those who do get it.
