EA to Take Monopoly Down to the Streets

When we saw the title Monopoly Streets, images of the iconic Monopoly man bashing his financial rivals with an iron immediately popped into our head. Imagine, a scrolling beat 'em up in which you stroll down Park Lane and Mayfair, beating seven bells out anyone who gets in your way! And there would have to be a driving bit where you jump into the car and stuff!

You'd have to avoid jail too, fight your way through the Electric Company and the Waterworks...and...and... Enough of that . Here's the real news. EA has announced that it will publish a celebratory 75th anniversary Monopoly title, Monopoly Streets, offering a dynamic 3D take on the classic board game.

Monopoly Streets, as implied by the name, will take you down to street level where you can become immersed in the game of Monopoly with a fully-3D environment including your Xbox Live Avatar if you like.

Players will also have their own HQ and will be able to establish their own set of 'house rules' using a series of game modifiers and "imaginative twists" to the traditional game of Monopoly. There'll also be online multiplayer, so there'll be no stealing money while the others aren't looking.

Prepare yourself to walk the streets (free of wanton violence) of Monopoly Streets in autumn 2010.

  • Hopeflly similar to the monopoly game on pc, where it was all about building an empire
  • haha sounds rather funny wonder whether it will be a full game or an arcade one :)
  • I WANNA BE THE BANKER!
  • Wow, sounds rather good actually. Just less glitched achievements please unlike EAs last 360 Monopoly game :/
  • Sounds interesting.
  • sounds cool! XBLA or retail?
  • Sounds like time to hose off them skanky ho's and put them back on the corner for a bit of revenue raising action.
  • Sweet i heard this is how Tony Montana got started.
  • So, arcade or retail?
  • lol monopoly owns, if this is retail tho then its a bargain buy =P
  • Sounds good. Loved the last monopoly (one of the few games I have actually finished lol) but it was just missing online multiplayer.
  • this will be a retain game for people askin if its arcade or retail.
  • I wanna see Star Wars Monopoly from the PC brought to the 360
  • #13 maybe with the game they could bring DLCs of Star Wars Monopoly and other ideas they could come up with.
  • Wait can this be played online? I wish they released a Monopoly that you could play online..
  • @15 Read the article?
  • Fun in jail, anybody?
  • This sounds awful...
  • This better be arcade coz I would never pay $50 for a retail game like that lol
  • Yeah I'd also like to know arcade or retail? I will never buy a retail Monopoly game. Or at least not unless it's super cheap used/bargain bin. Arcade could grab my attention though.
  • @ #19 I WOULD!
  • hmmm very interesting might pick it up i ahve the other monopoly which was really fun
  • I would bet money that it is a Arcade game. The article states that it will support our avatars, a feature I haven't seen in a retail game yet.
  • #23 Retail games to support avatars.....at least Scene It: Box Office Smash did! Can't think of any other ones though......
  • This will be a Retail game. Overpriced at $60. But I'll rental for the temporary entertainment :)
  • Stayed away from the other but might pick this up seen as though it has Multi-player.
  • Hope this is easy gs :P....
  • Fuck yeah I love the sounds of this game. I hope it has an M rating and is just badass as shit!!!!!
  • I want avatar awards with it. I want the clothing of the Monopoly man!
  • FUCKING AWESOME! My favorite board game!
  • Monopoly + Godfather = Monopoly Streets lol
  • Throw in a bullettime effect each time i pass go and it's a buy for me
  • Oooh, I might be able to use this for my dissertation.
  • oh shit homes, you just landed on my Grape Street property - and I gots 3 crackhouses on it and a chop shop!
  • I read the article in my OXM last night. It is a full retail game that's supposed to be probably $40. It will have online multiplayer. If anyone played Monopoly Tycoon for the PC, I think it sounds a lot like it.
  • @ 23: I think Lego RockBand supported them.
  • MOOOOO MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i hear a cash cow.
  • sooo can you play this online with friends???
  • @37: I don't know about Lego Rock Band, but I know Band Hero did. @39: Yes, I believe that's what online multiplayer means.
  • @35- LMFAO!!! @RW- Let me know when your version of Monopoly comes out 'cause now I'm more interested in it rather than the 'old school' version.
  • It all sounds familiar.. Hasn't there been a game like this for the PC or something??? But still it sounds pretty fun, just might get this (at least if it's no more then €30)
  • cooooooooool
  • This is a joke, right? RIGHT?
  • Lol. Grand Theft Boardwalk. Starts in the thimble with the chance to jack the iron from another player.
  • @13 YES. Star Wars Monopoly nao. Loved that game, especially with the cute cut scenes whenever something happened.
  • If you want a real article with pics, check out the newest OXM magazine.
  • @1 Yep, Monopoly Tycoon, awesome game, loved it. Shame it plays like shit on Vista and 7.
  • I thought from the article title that EA was making a ghetto style Monopoly. Where instead of cash you have food stamps, and instead of houses you bought Escalades that cost more than the house.
  • @23 @24 Band Hero Guitar Hero 5 Sega Superstars Racing (or whatever its called) Scene it: BOS Dirt 2
  • To number 19 if they charged 50 it would be a rip but I got the last monoply retail game for only 30 brand new so I'm sure this one will still be in that price range, or so one could hope.
  • Sounds better than the other monopoly title they released.
  • awww i was hoping to be the banker guy killing all the people with irons... that would of been sweet.
  • if it would have online multiplayer i would be interested
  • @48, yes Monopoly Tycoon... that's the game!!!!
  • finally online multiplayer, cant wait for this one
  • or i could just dust off my monopoly box in the loft and save myself some money.....
  • im not gonna get this. anything with ea and monopoly in the title is a slap in the face to me. why? because they are trying and somewhat accomplishing to monopolize the video game industry. it started with the nfl license and now most all of the good games out there are published by them. just about half of my game collection are games published by them. so you might say stop buying their games but that would mean missing out on those good games.
