Mass Effect 2
Interview: Casey Hudson Talks Mass Effect 2's Overlord DLC, The Future & Mining Minerals
Written By
View author's profile

At EA's spring showcase last week, we found 10 minutes in our busy schedule to catch up with Mass Effect's Executive Producer, Casey Hudson, to talk about the upcoming Mass Effect 2 Overlord DLC, what we can expect in the future in terms of DLC, why the two downloadable character's inclusion seemed so disjointed and what the future holds for mineral mining within the Mass Effect universe.

It's a must watch for any Mass Effect fans out there and gives you a good insight into Mass Effect 2's DLC path.

Never bought the Kasumi DLC because it seemed a bit steep for one loyalty mission, but I will probably buy this. Looking forward to it.

Two to two-and-a-half hours developer time = forty-five minutes for any half-decent gamer.

How about, instead of shitty DLC, some QUALITY expansions or something? Never mind, I'll trade in ME2 tomorrow. The game is great but the DLC isn't enough to merit keeping the game.

I have been disappointed with the dlc so far,but the way he describes it has me sold.I loved when he started talking about the good aspects of the Mako, exploring was one of the best parts of ME1 IMO twas sadly missing in the sequel.
I am skeptical of the 2 and a half hours of content though. Before Kasumi came out it was supposed to be 90 minutes, though I highly doubt anyone actually took that long to beat it.

The more DLC they have for Mass Effect 2, the happier i'll be. This is a 1st day buy for me as is all the ME2 DLC.

I really hope the next DLC is the Liara/Shadow Broker one.

So they don't release story addon dlc because people arn't finished playing the game's main story but, they don't add quality character interactions for the new characters because so many people have finished the game's story?

All I want is for new characters to have conversations instead of them going on about themselves.

I LOVE CH's use of the word "start"! "Start transitioning into assuming everyone has finished ME2," "Start building out actual story experience," "Start working back to having the vehicle as part of the ME missions." The DLC is "start"ing to sound more like ME2.5!

I was one of thiose idiots who mined way more than I needed! I was at 400,000 on one of the elements FFS. Whats scary is I barely mined even 30-40% of what was available because I started tp realize it was not needed. better late than never

By the time all the DLC comes out I'll have spent $50-$100 on this for about 20 hours of content. Compare that to $15 per map pack, or even $10 per RPG add-on (Fallout), or $30 per expansion (Elder Scrolls IV), or even $5 a pop for a mid-sized add-on (Mass Effect 1). This is just not a very good deal at this point. $7 for Kasumi was a horribly bad deal, and I'm sure this will end up being sub-par at best. It seems like a good deal because we're being spoonfed these expansions. If it all came at us at once, we would rebel against it. But it's coming at us with a few good months in between each, so we hardly even notice the accumulative price.

I love Mass Effect so much. I've beaten Mass Effect 6-7 times and I'm on the 8th time right now. This time is my permanent file. I have my favorite background and I'm not dating anyone so I can have Tali in the 2nd and 3rd one. ;) I have to beat the 1st again before I can play Firewalker and Kasumi so I'm excited for Overlord, too.

I can't wait for more ME2 DLC, but one thing I really want is some more voice acting. The Firewalker DLC was just 45 minutes of an annoying robot voice and numerous explosions.

They should try and get the voice cast back just for a few lines so we can at least have some real dialogue in the game. It would add a bit more life into each DLC, anything that wasn't a recruitment mission was just silent for dialogue, a critical part of this RPG.

I tried mining the entire galaxy. Keyword: Tried. I got bored of it, so I just entered Omega 4 and learned you didn't have to have all the upgrades to make your team survive (I don't read online guides that much anymore, so I was misled).

But yeah, shame no games have DLC like Elder Scrolls IV anymore; the best set of DLC on the 360 IMO. Some were just good, cheap fun, some were substantial add-ons, all of them were well-priced. Good all-round deals. I haven't seen a game like that since. I thought Mass Effect 2 would be that game, though, considering all of Mass Effect's DLC was reasonably priced, but good.

They shaved off to many RPG elements for Mass2. The planets you landed on in the first game had sidequests and exploration... almost every planet in 2 was just a fetch quest. You didnt get much of a feel for the planet and population and such. And not enough loot/gear and barley any stats plus a bit to shallow characters.

On the plus side we got Gears of Mass Effect shooting and graphics to boot. Not nearly as good as the first game though!

After he said the next DLC will be 2.5hrs I will be waiting for a review. I am not that enthused about this DLC anyways. Now Kasumi I thought she was worth every penny and loved her Loyalty Mission but to spend another $7 I will hold out.

I love ME2 and have finished it 8 times but I am waiting for a substantial DLC and I would also like to know if this has achievements or not.

I can't get enough of this game and I finished it 5 times, 4 in Insanity with 4 different classes. One of the best games out there. Who cares if DLC is pricey or not. If you don't want to buy it, then don't. If you can't afford it, because you prefer buying a pack of smokes, a beer or whatever, it's your problem. Choices.

...is it bad that I took over 90 minutes on the Kasumi DLC? :/

I mean, I explored EVERYTHING. Maybe that's what the developers wanted as opposed to a quick run to get the achievement. I rarely care about crap like that, but BioWare does a good job of showing rewarding (in my mind) quirks to those who pay attention.

I'll look forward to it, but I think there must be a cut off point where enough dlc is enough, time to put all their attention into the next game. Still, at least we are getting achievements for the dlc, unlike the Hoth mission for TFU, which still really annoys me...

"We listen to feedback, and it's important to us." No, no it's not. If it was, you would've fixed the horrendously small and unreadable text in the game. There are threads on their forums with thousands of replies devoted to just such a thing.

If they listened, they would've been working on fixing that.
