Could Dante's Inferno 2 Already Be In The Works?

Over on GamaSutra, there's a job listing for an Environment Artist to work on "an existing action/adventure franchise" at Visceral Games. With Dead Space 2 already out there, it seems that Dante's Inferno 2 is a no-brainer here. These are currently the only two established IPs owned by Visceral.

The job description begins thus: "Visceral Games is looking for an experienced Environment Artist for an existing action/adventure franchise. This is a major opportunity to contribute to a bold new franchise, heavily backed by the EA Games Label."

If it is indeed Dante's Inferno 2, which is a strong possibility, then it would be the second chapter in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy trilogy, entitled Purgatorio.

Purgatorio charts Dante's journey through Purgatory after surviving the terrors of Hell, before the final Paradiso chapter where Dante and his guide, Virgil make it to Paradise.

"The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre," states the end of the job description. Sounds like a hack and slash title to us. Dante's Purgatorio it is then.

  • Yeah well, we're talking about EA. They already have like 10 Dante's game planned ^_^
  • Nice.
  • 1#, no wonder there losing money...
  • Or maybe Dragon Age 2 or another large expansion for Dragon Age...
  • awesome, Dante's Inferno is a fun game. And with the addition of the Trials it just got a lot of replay value added to it.
  • No real surprise. When they announced Inferno they stated up front that they intended to flesh out the entire trilogy.
  • Wow i'm dumb missed the Visceral part haha maybe it is Dante's Inferno 2 then...
  • i remember readin on the DI thread that they werent makin a DI2, they wanted to do mcbeth instead...
  • @#6 - Actually, I think you'll find it's the opposite. Johnathan Knight, Exec Producer, said that the other two of the three wouldn't work.
  • I don't get the hype for this game, I played the demo thought it shouldve came out for sega genesis instead, is it really worth playing/making a sequel?
  • @ #1 - How could they have ten? Notice how the Divine Comedy is a TRILOGY?
  • Still have to play first one. Waiting for a price drop^^
  • When exactly will we get this? 2015? The first one took long enough!
  • @1 i bloody hope so lol i loved the game, prob my favourite hack n slash
  • @ #3 - Where in the world is EA LOSING money? They release a reskinned sports title every year for 5 major sports that the general retarded population eats up like fat kids at a broken candy machine. Lest we forget they have a wider genre than just sports with Westwood EA and the team behind the Dead Space franchise. Now they're trying to suck up more dough with their "Used game online charge." Not to mention they attatch their label to so many other games out there - Army of Two, BFBC, Mercenaries, etc.
  • I hated this game with a passion. I tried so hard to carry on to the end but I really just couldn't. They'd have to change so much to make me even think about playing the second game.
  • There was no fighting or action in the last 2 books just morals. how can you make a game like that Money whores make me sick.
  • Personally I'd like to see it but i didn't like Dante's progression. The first 3-4 levels were amazing but it just kept doing what EA does best - Recycling shit throughout the game and trying to dress it up. I really don't see how Purgatorio (Dante's second part of the poem) and make it action. They changed most of the story just to make it a playable action game. Have to wait and see.
  • I thought the first game was a decent enough expereince and would play a second one. Perhaps they would need to add a few features that were actually unique to the game and not just rip offs ...
  • Dantes Inferno was a scaled back God of War for the 360. How is that NOT enjoyable?
  • Dante's Inferno was a great game, but there is no need for a sequel...
  • I just beat the game on hellish like 10 minutes ago (Lucifer was insanely hard might i add), so to hear the sequel might be under way all ready is great. Until then infernal difficulty will have to keep me occupied. =)
  • I remember them talking about wanting to make a jack the ripper game or something..
  • Cool - another easy 1k!
  • #21 - Considering that the work on which it is based has three parts, there is a pretty good argument for sequels. :) #23 - Yeah, I remember that... in which you played as Jack. Sounded rather interesting. Hopefully they still have plans for it.
  • Ugh and i thought the story was over. Dante inferno2...Now battle the Nine clouds of heaven face off w god and jesus. Dante inferno 3...heqd to nirvana and seek out kurt cobain. It never ends w ea lol
  • @ 23- I think that became Sherlock Holmes vs Jack The Ripper or some cheesy crap
  • Is the first game actually worth owning, or should I just rent it to play through it once? As a fan of the original work, I really want to see the visual interpretation of hell, but I'm not sure if I would ever care to replay the game after finishing it.
  • I would be surprised if it wasn't... Dante's Inferno was the first part of the poem so I wouldn't be surprised if they were making games for the other parts. Especially given how well the first one did. It was a very cool game.
  • @26 You don't even know what Purgatorio and Paradiso is about........
  • "The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre" Right because taking the crown from the god of war series and devil may cry before it will be cake...
  • cool really lookin 4ward to this. i knew there would be a second 1 coz at thhe end of the first it says to be continued.... unless the dlc followed on i aint had chance to download it yet.
  • @26, You failed. Go do your homework. ~MONK3Y
  • this should be interesting. if any of you have not seen the animated film based on the game u really should its awesome
  • # 26 is either just some douchey kid or illiterate but is definitely 100% ignorant. Regardless, I don't see a sequel being done "right" but they could make it as good as Inferno. I'm not at all interested in St. Lucias Trials but I would like to see where the game takes Dante in terms of depth. @ 32 - It only says To Be Continued b/c it's based off a 3 part book but Paradiso and Purgatorio read more like sonnets or poems compared to Inferno.
  • Dante's Inferno was fun hoping for more levels, more combos, more gore and a longer game.
  • YES! YES OMG YESS!
  • How could they make a sequel to this? He beats the devil, whats he gonna do in this one? teabag him?
  • BEATRICE!!!!
  • I like Dante's inferno. Good fun to play and easy achieves ;) a second one would be most welcome. Maybe put the level editor and co-op in straight away?
  • I like how a lot of people here clearly don't know that Dante's Inferno is the first story in a group of 3. Dante goes through Hell, Purgatory and Paradise (If I recall correctly). Inferno only covered Hell, so there's still two whole stories/areas not covered in that game, and that's where the sequels come in. They have source material. Have some of you never heard of Dante's Inferno prior to this game? In any case, I don't know how they'd do the sequels justice. I liked the demo of DI, but I don't own it yet. I am waiting for a massive price drop. And I will pray that we eventually get Isaac as DLC.
  • How are they going to make the sequel interesting though. The first part was the only one that had much action at all.
  • @ 41 - It's a matter of how to fit it into a game though. Hell is easy. Even though the actual poem had no source of fighting or whatnot (it was just a narrative journey), Hell is an easy idea to mold into a game world and use it well as EA surprisingly did. I loved the constant "descent" into Hell but it got very repetitive...as games do but this surely could've expanded in later levels. Plus as far as I'm concerned witht he final battle, no matter WHAT the outcome - Hairy goat penis is just not cool to digitize. I was already traumatized from Dr. Manhattans 3 blue flacid penis' in one room from Watchmen lol.
  • @30 etc Trying for a lil humor, geez.
  • I have no idea how they are planning to make action games for the other two poems...Hell I get (it's horrible) but Purgatory is only meant to be so-so and heaven should be by all accounts nice.
  • @ 44 - Try a lot harder. Because you made no sense and the point of humor is to "be funny".
  • Just stick my comments on ignore and you'll be a much happier person then @46. I'm just not seeing any story worth telling in Purgatorio and Paradiso. The changed up enough for the first game. I'm kind of under the impression that EA won't even attempt a story from the next books but just a completely made of sequal telling of inferno.
  • @2 no one commented on #2 saying that visceral made dragon age?....lol
  • I meant #4 , i dont feel good so I have no idea what Im saying
  • just played the first one very fun to play.
  • Well I hope it is Dante's Purgatorio. I really enjoyed the first game and I'm excited to see how they adapt the next part as an action game.
  • If they can make it better than the first I am totally ready for it.
  • Maybe this time us North American 360 owners will get a no extra charge CE and not just PS3 and European gamers.
  • If they do make Dante's Purgatory, it will neither suck, nor be awsome
  • This is a must buy for me. Loved the first game!
  • I really liked the first. But please don't call it Dante's Inferno 2! Make it Dante's Purgatory or something creative!
  • Wait, didn't one of the heads of Visceral already make a public statement that there WON'T be a Dante's Inferno sequel in any way, shape or form?
  • would still be cool to see a second one though
  • oh god not another 1 the 1st one was easy enough
  • Game was fun if a bit on the short side.
  • Sound intriguing...
  • @12 Waitin' for a price drop?! Dude i bought this game at gamestop for 9.99 NEW!!! And it was worth the whole 10 bux...
  • Still going through it, but having a great time with it! It seems really short though. I'm only about three and a half hours into it, and more than what I think is halfway. A sequel though? I don't think it will be very good if they fallow the books. I think they would maybe fork the story into a new direction, which could either be really bad, or good. I'll save my judgments for the demo.
  • How? The story's ending makes sense. Unless he's dreaming or something and his happiness was a misconception...
  • I bet EA says there are actually 27 circles of Hell, and Dante's Inferno 2 involves descending through 10-18. Or maybe God will just turn on Dante and we'd have to kill God. That sounds good for sales.
