Having previously reported that Square Enix's Hiromichi Tanaka was still in talks with Microsoft to bring Final Fantasy XIV Online to Xbox 360, it now transpires that "the closed environment of Xbox Live" means that the MMO will no longer be coming to the console.
"The main reason why we couldn't go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system," Tanaka told Eurogamer before adding, "(Live is) different to the normal internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice."
Final Fantasy XIV Online for Xbox 360 seemed like a no-brainer to us, with Square Enix having already released Final Fantasy XI for Microsoft's console back in 2006, but it seems that an agreement just couldn't be reached between Square and MS this time.
"Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live," stated Tanaka. "We couldn't come to an agreement on Xbox Live."
So, that's that then. There will be no Final Fantasy XIV Online for Xbox 360. The End.
