Guitar Hero 5
Queen, A7X, Disturbed & Shinedown Heading To Guitar Hero In July
Written By
View author's profile

Activision today announced their upcoming Guitar Hero 5 downloadable content schedule for July and it seems rather more rocky than usual... or should I say than Rock Band. Yes, I went there!

Compatible with Band Hero and the forthcoming Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, today sees British rock band, Queen, return to Guitar Hero, as well as track packs from Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed and Shinedown - who make their guitar hero debut - planned throughout the rest of July.

Here's your July DLC schedule for Guitar Hero:

Queen 2 Track Pack (available today):

  • “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”
  • “Killer Queen”
  • “Somebody To Love”

The Avenged Sevenfold Track Pack (available July 13th):

  • “Afterlife”
  • “Almost Easy”
  • “Scream”

Disturbed Track Pack (available July 20th):

  • “Down With The Sickness”
  • “Stricken,”
  • “Indestructible

Shinedown Track Pack (available July 27th):

  • “Devour,”
  • “Second Chance”
  • “Sound of Madness”

All tracks are 160 Microsoft Points each, or 440 Microsoft Points for the track pack.

Why do they always include so many songs that are already in RB? Surely it can't be that hard to give us more new tracks.

This was probably the secret Queen project Brian May was talking about:

"We have invented a way to let users participate in games (of) our concerts, but I can not say more than that now. It's a secret"

I am beginning to think he is a crazy old man but who knows, maybe a Kinect Queen game is in the works. I would find that odd seeing as they have released SOOO much DLC from that that the actual game won't have anything new.

activision are taking the piss with these dlc packs. when i saw a7x were getting a dlc pack i was excited for a split second until i saw that i can play 2 of the songs already on other games and the other song is one of theirs that i skip when i listen to that album. 9 of the 12 have been on other rhythm games. RUBBISH!

When I saw Disturbed in the title of this news post, them being my favorite band, I was wondering if I'd actually be getting GH DLC again.

Cue the discovery that two of all these songs were on previous GHs (Almost Easy as DLC for GH3 and Stricken in its main setlist), that 9 of the songs on this list are already on RB and I have them all, and that I have all 3 songs in the Disturbed pack on RB.

This is almost as sad as when they repackaged Skynyrd songs as DLC when they were already available as imports.

I'll be expecting the remaining 3 songs to hit RB in some form at some point. For now, RB has a ton of DLC that hit today that I need to get. Safe to say I'm passing on GH DLC again.

Whine, Whine, Whine

Stop trolling when a song is already available for another game. You RB players always seem wanting to spit on GH... that's getting boring.

Are you seriously complaining because the DLC are nearly all the same for both RB and GH? That only means you can choose your game and still have DLC for it, no matter if you like RB rather than GH.

I played Aferlife on Rock Band and to be honest the fact that the hammer-ons suck in RB it wasn't as fun as it could potentially be, I'm glad they brought it to GH but I probably won't get it anyway considering I never have MS points.

And here, Guitar Hero's biggest problem is revealed -- in addition to the obvious competition, they're competing with themselves now, releasing already tracks available in other GH titles. Rock Band might have a... wider "musical variety" that teh hardcorez metal and rock fans scoff at, but until RB3 comes out with its keyboard and harmonies support, EVERY song avialable for download works in either title, and Rock Band exported near flawlessly into its sequel (just missing the three songs, one of which is now available as a master track), not to mention Lego Rock Band and Green Day FULLY exporting. One franchise, and the player is effectively allowed -- even slightly ENCOURAGED -- to upgrade to the most up-to-date version while still having all of their past investment playable in it.

Why are rb fanboys are worse than gh fanboys? I mean alright some of these songs are available on Rb already, but gh adds double bass and good charting to them. Surely that makes up for it? But no that is not enough for RB fanyboys that must make a big deal about the fact that some of these songs are already in RB, what about the vice versa? Why has there got to be this lame epenis war people create? Get a life, if you don't care about GH get out of a GH news post!

GH was originally made by Harmonix....Harmonix now makes Rock Band. I don't care about GH or RB. I'm sticking with the best music game developer, Harmonix. They have done nothing but innovate Music gaming. RB 3 will finally teach me how to play....which is a step in the right direction for myself.

Activison has kinda whored out GH in my opinion. Its like a New Game every six months or so....

@ 46, I'm sorry, I like to see what DLC comes out for GH. I like to know the diversity of the genre and how they plan to be competitive to RB (Or any other Music game). I just wish everyone could get along and stop fighting about who is better. It really all depends on your tastes.

I don't get the whats wrong with using songs that are already on rb. If you already have them than don't buy them. They are not forcing you to. Both games do it anyways. Harmonix made gh 1 and 2 so thecnically they have recycled songs onto their rb games, eg carry on my wayward son billion dollar babies, hanger 18, message in a bottle, yyz, killer queen, ect... and that ok. Rock band just hasnt had a game with only a guitar thats why it is isn't guilty as much in repetiton. Rb has songs released twice on the market place too like limelight and number of the beast id be really pissed off paying full price for a crappy cover version and than realise they released a master version of it. I dont see why this has to be a competion anyways each game has its pros and cons and whatever u perfer is your opinion. Anyways on the DLC best month ive seen in a long time will be getting the disturbed on A7X pack cant wait.

#26 Your stupid yea stupid Scream is one of the best songs on that album. How can you skip that. Rock Band is crap who makes a drum set with 4 pads and no cymbals the damn yellow is a cymbal, a tom and sometimes the snare WTH. You have to pay $250 if you want a good drum set. The guitar is too damn easy hopefully RB3 Pro mode makes the guitar a bit harder even though all there songs are going to be really easy. Also Why does RB3 cost $300 I bought a slim with that money.

For everyone that is hating on the "RB fanboys": It's not that they're fanboys (they probably aren't), it's that they want some new songs to play. Songs that aren't already playable.
After all, if they were fanboys, would they look at an article for GH? No. They probably own GH as well, and want to play some different songs. They don't want to pay more money for songs that they may already own, just on a different game. They want NEW songs to listen/play to. It's not that they HAVE to buy these songs, it's that they don't have a choice to spend money on anything NEW.

As for me, I don't own GH. I just checked this article to see what they had coming out. I'm pretty disappointed that they are coming out with songs that are already made (whether on RB OR THEIR OWN GAMES). But they've been doing that for a long time now, so I don't plan to buy anymore GH games (except 2, that was the BOMB).

I'm suprised at how many people complain about the tracks being on both games. Maybe because on rock band you can even hit all the notes in the afterlife solo cause the gameplay is dumb. Guitar Hero is such a better game, Rock Band just has better songs that are downloadable and on disc

The RB fanboys can go play there DLC on medium and we will play on GH on expert cause we are actually good enough to know that rock bands hammer-ons and pull-offs are terrible. If you say its on both games you're wasting your time commenting cause you weren't going to buy it anyway

Dammit. I try to defend Guitar Hero (I still prefer it to Rock Band to this day regardless, now where's my flame shield?) but they screw up. I'm not talking about the songs this month per se, but one in particular:

Killer Queen.

I love this song, yes, but it was in Guitar Hero I. AND Smash Hits. So instead of giving us an updated export of SH (or give it to the people who already bought the export, such as myself) they charge for it. Damn activi$ion.

Oh, and with the exception of the PARTIAL exports of World Tour, Smash Hits, and Band Hero, i've NEVER bought Guitar Hero DLC. Looks like that won't change.

Everyone ragging on the fact that Rockband already has these songs ect, You also have to remember, for drummers its a plus. Now we can actually drum to our songs on Expert+. Who cars if the songs are already on Rockband or not, they're good songs, and make for good fun no matter which of the 2 games your playing.

GH advantage: Expert+

Thats all :D
