The futuristic cyperpunk world of Deus Ex is set to make the leap from video game to written word, as Del Rey Books is set to publish a novel that takes place within the game's universe, but focuses on the exploits of Secret Service agent Anna Kelso and special-ops soldier Ben Saxon.

Saxon and Kelso - the novel's two unlikely heroes -  find themselves embroiled in a conspiracy involving dark, secret powers that threaten to take control of Deus Ex's technological dystopia, and as the pair draw ever closer to the truth, they're forced into making choices that will irrevocably alter the course of history and perhaps even plunge the world into eternal darkness.

"We’re really pleased to be able to announce this new Deus Ex novel with Del Rey books," said Andre Vu, Marketing Game Manager for Deus Ex. "The novel is set in the Deus Ex universe and there will be characters and story elements in it, that will overlap with our next videogame Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which we hope fans will be very excited about."

We are excited about it, Andre. Read our Deus Ex: Human Revolution preview to find out just how excited we are.

Forthcoming Deus Ex novel, Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect is written by author James Swallow and will be released in 2011.
