This first in a series of developer diaries for Ninja Theory's Enslaved: Odyssey to the West examines how the team is re-imagining the classic Chinese story, Journey to the West with The Beach and 28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland spilling ink on the game's screenplay.

Check out the video, which looks at every facet of Enslaved's story and characters, from the aforementioned script, to Andy Serkis' motion-captured performance as Monkey and more besides.

Enslaved is due to swing into action on October 8th, 2010 in Europe with the US launch following days later on October 12th, 2010.

  • doesnt arouose me.
  • still think the game will not do that well.
  • Same as #1/2. Doesn't look all that amazing and doesn't get off my seat.. Rent and chieve whore ode for me on this one!
  • To be honest, I have to disagree. I think this could be a superb game, its not going to be a huge seller as it's not going to appeal to the masses, but neither did Ico or Shadow of the Colossus and they were superb games. With a great writer behind the story and a hugely popular and famous story as a basis (Journey to the West is more commonly known as Monkey or Monkey Magic! the television version of the novel). Ok it'll depend on the game play itself, but I have high hopes!
  • I fell the same as #4. It could be great. Games that try hard to achieve character have a great chance to be awesome.
  • I can't wait for this game! Everything I've seen so far makes me more and more excited. Like #4 & #5 I think it has the potential to be a fantastic game.
  • lol i agree with #4,#5 and #6 . The gameplay looks better than Heavenly Sword and if the story and characters are as good or better then this game will be awesome, unfortunately I feel it probably wont sell well
  • Damn, when I saw the title I thought you would be able to make your own character, I am sorry but monkey looks stupid. What is with his hair? He looks like the main character of Bulletstorm and that is in no way a compliment.
  • I agree with #4 I might not buy this game at launch because the gameplay is my last deciding factor and I need to test before I buy, but I'm definitely willing to spend my money on this game instead of on an annual Call of Duty game.
  • Im pretty excited about this game i dont care what anyone else says i think it will be a great game!..
  • Personally I'm pretty excited for this game... aside from drawing from the same story that Akira Toriyama created Dragonball from they are definately putting an emphasis on character development and adding some originality to a fimiliar story. Character development is a big thing... developers have been getting lazy in this aspect of games for years now. There is very little that's worse than a mute go-for for a main character. I know they expect me to project my personality onto these mute characters but why bother when there's no interaction with other characters. It's you but you can't say or do anything that effects anything. Dead space was a great game... but Isaac Clark was just there to serve. You can't make a connection with that.
  • This reminds me of prince of persia... should be pretty sweet
