Master Chief's re-emergence in Halo is a topic that will never die, and while talking to Bungie's Community Director, Brian Jarrard, at Gamescom last week, Mr Chief himself was mentioned once again. Turns out, he's in Reach as more than just a Firefight voice.

“Well, he’s not part of our campaign,” said Jarrard, as he goes onto discuss the fact that his voice will appear as an unlockable in the game - 150,000 credits if you're interested.

“Technically we can say Chief is in the game, but it’s only in this capacity,” he noted.

"Only in this capacity" isn't technically true though, as Jarrard went onto reveal that you can also unlock Chief's mighty MJOLNIR armour as well.

“Actually, as you progress and rank up you’ll unlock and have more access to more stuff in the armoury, so on day one you’re only going to see a fraction of what’s available,” said Jarrard.

“Eventually if you want to, you actually can unlock and wear Chief’s MJOLNIR armour, so you can build a Noble 6 that looks identical to Chief. He’ll play Firefight, unlock Chief’s voice and yeah, it’s kind of like being Chief again,” concluded Jarrard.

So you can look like him, talk like him and hopefully fight like him. That's as good as you're going to get from the beloved Master Chief in Reach... which truth be told, isn't a bad package at all.
