Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut
Sonic Adventure Hits the Xbox Live Marketplace Today
Written By
View author's profile

Everyone's favourite blue hedgehog (not that there's many of them to choose from) has rolled onto the Xbox Live Marketplace today, with Sonic Adventure marking the beginning of what will hopefully be a mass Dreamcast revival.

Next up? That'll be Crazy Taxi, but for now we'll be getting back into some classic Sonic action in HD for the first time. It was the last time that Sonic was truly great after all. It'll be nice to re-live Sonic's last decent outing.

Sonic Adventure is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace now for a mere 800 Microsoft Points. Bargain-tastic! Add it to your download queue here.

Also representing the Dreamcast. Still have it, still works. Plugged it in last year for a quick round of Chu Chu Rocket. Loving the revival so far and we're only one game in. SEGA, don't let us down.

RIP Dreamcast, now that is an example of actually losing money on each console and getting so much in debt they had to stop production alltogether!!! Learn microsoft you FUCKS!! You dare to claim that you were losing money on Xbox?? I can not for the life of me imagine at which point!!! OT Sonic is awesome. Might even get it eventually^^

WTF! I can't get a single 'LEVEL A' rank at the end of my levels.

I mean, I remember getting 'A' on all of Adventure 2 was a pain, but I didn't think I wouldn't get not a single 'A' here!

*Sign* I miss Dreamcast; were achievements didn't exist..

Ditto #9 and #11, Adventure 2 is one of my all-time favorite games. Will pick this one up for sure, though I kinda wish it was the DX Director's Cut, but oh well :)

@16 The XBLA version of Sonic Adventure is the DX one (without the additional features that will be available as DLC... f*ck >_> )

So the Chao version is very close to the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle one, with the displayed stats (Strengh, Stamina, Fly, Run, Power), the black market and so on

I loved playing the remakes on Gamecube about 9 years back. I never had the chance to own a Dreamcast, but I loved these games then. I imagine that this, one of the few good 3D Sonic Games, aged well and is probably more fun now than ever before.

I always preferred SA2 personally, and I've heard this port has had some dire reviews too...

It's a shame really, if the port is a bad one, it's not the best way to kick off a console's selection of games on XBLA.

Still, that said, I'm personally just waiting for JSR. ^.^

@11 Well not everyone feels that way. I agree with Rich, and really disliked SA2. For me, it marked the start of Sonic's decline.
Give it a second chance on the Gamecube and I just couldn't bring myself to even finish it.

SA:DX on the GCN however, I went and got all 130 emblems.
It just captured the 16-bit charm more.

@12, If I remember many years ago from playing this on the Dreamcast, the story mission is the C grade, then on the menu where you can replay missions, the B & A missions are things like collect 100 rings and finish in a certain time.

Personally, I have a soft spot for SA2 because it was the first Sonic game I really got into. I remember pouring countless hours in the Chao Garden. While I can't get this right now, I'll definitely consider it once I get that 1200 point rebate from Summer of Arcade.

I bought the sequel for GameCube to be hospitable to a friend who was a Sega Fanboy.

Christ I never hated a game more. After every decent Sonic level, there was this awful, miserable hunting for a lame gem level. There weren't even villains around. It was just pointless busy work.

@30: Calm down, it's merely an option for those who want the DX content.
Would you prefer they made the base game 1200 points and FORCED you to get the extra content?

I agree with those saying about the optional DLC choice. Personally I expected a big game like this to cost 1200 points anyway, but being that it gives people the choice to have the slightly cheaper option is a good thing. Just started playing it and love it, retarded sonic jaw an all ;) Agreeing also with those that want Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Gotta admit, it was a great improvement, but we'll make do with this for now :D

I'm going to go against the general grain here and say that although I owned a Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure, I didn't think much of it. In fact I'm not much of a Sonic fan in general. However, this marks the start in a DC revival and there are a few DC games which I'm looking forward to playing again.

I am tempted to buy it even though I still have it on DC and can still play my dc in high res (ok its not 1080p but the dc was the first TRULY 60hz console) via a VGA Scart cable, still looks the nuts. To be honest I probably can't justify the purchase but I don't care!!! BRING ON CRAZY TAXI! And hopefully they can do some proper DC revivals such as.... wait for it.... PHANTASY STAR ONLINE!!! Bring on the revival of DC's best online games!! PLEASE GOD!!

This game came out 11 years ago. He could be 20 and he could've played this when it first came out and he would have been 9.
